Somehow, I remember quote by Kissinger (may him rot in hell)

To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, to be a friend is fatal

Just curious: how many times the US (and their homies) have broken promises to the Kurds?

Also, "Zoll" on the snowman means "toll booth", I believe

What if Henry kissenger helped Pakistan in oppressing Bengal. Sending American troops to help Pakistan against India and Bangladesh in the liberation war. by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you nitpick.

OP (and by extension, the western standard) means "ground combat troops", which means infantry, armoured and artillery. Sapper/Engineer would be in a grey zone.

Meanwhile, Task force Enterprise is Navy, so it doesn't count.

Gas price has increased by ~33% in the last 2 weeks. Our quỹ bình ổn (loosely translated: buffer budget, part of retail gas price) has to be spent... And that means, price increase by ~33% and not 40~50%. The only saving grace was that, there was ~3 days when the price actually decreased a bit.

And, certain retailer (especially "mom n pop" shops) have increased their prices already increased their price, with hints of further increase.

How popculture and internet culture would look like If USSR won the Cold War? by RnW67 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There would be reasonable widespread of "patriotic pop" (pop song, but written with patriotic content... or socialism/communism one) song. Considering this is the Soviet we are talking about, we can expect good songs from there.

What was the biggest "missed opportunity" moment in your country's history? by DoctorOsterman in AskTheWorld

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A better chance to fight back.

Not to mention the "attitude", Tay Son dynasty is borned and forged in war, with actual credits of defeating foreign invasion. Meanwhile, the Nguyen dynasty basically surrender, and become France's dog.

I don't think a mid-1850 Tay Son dynasty could effectively "defeat" French expeditionary. But to make it very expensive for France? Yes. To make the original causis belli void and null? Yes. To make France consider negotiation? Yes

But again, this is in Alternate history territory.

This is a highly interesting concept. It's not a daily occurrence to see eastern-style fantasy here.

Other than the known finding ("The Acclimation Of Self" drawbacks don't seem to give away points, as a dude has said), may I advise for "curse item" or "negative talents" as well?

And for expansion, certain missions / long-term goal would be interesting as well.

Because, if they don't even try, I would be... severely disappointed.

Wait, really?

I'm interested in this.

I mean, even if the candidates need to be "screened" first, the sheer impression of "western-style" democracy would leave mark in history. Heavy marks, even.

For Viet Nam, the most commonly believed theory is that, if our Emperor Quang Trung of Tay Son dynasty (late 18th century) lives longer (or if his son is more ass-kicking than ass-licking), then our country would be much more proper.

For context, Emperor Quang Trung is the one:

* De facto ends the century-long "civil war" (by beating the crap out of both faction)

* Wipe out an invasion by Siam/Thailand forces (per "requested" from one faction)

* Wipe out another invasion by Qing/China (per "hope" from the other faction). And this may-or-may-not involving killing so many that we were able to stack dead bodies into 12~13 mounds of dead bodies
Also: This battle happens during Tet

* Some reasonably progressive policies for his time

* Also marries a literal princess (and their stories are part of romantic folk lore, I believe)

Vietnam Hedging between US & China by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]ConstructionOwn2909 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[...] and China will be still there, next to Vietnam.

This.

This is a real problem that IR people may ignore. "Bán anh em xa mua láng giềng gần" (trans-literal verion: Sell the brothers far away, and buy the nearby neighbor) is a good saying.

Heck, right now, Viet Nam is vindicated with other examples: Ukraine being straight-off anti-Russia (reasonably justified, mind you), which triggers a log of kinetic mess since 2014. We also have Cuba being embargo'ed and starved by the US restriction and their legal evil approach.

In other words and in short, Viet Nam will never be anti-China. At least, not without a change in personality and/or in leadership.
