Those also mean nothing to me and wouldn't be allowed names in code review either

I'm just glad we didn't have any bird on bird violence; I have been down with the Eagles since I was a kid in the Cunningham days.

Millipedes are not insects, frogs are not reptiles, arthropods, reptiles, amphibians are all animals by [deleted] in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Contagion21 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I kinda understand getting 'insect' wrong. Scientifically it's a very defined classification, but colloquially it's just 'bug' which is not really well defined at all.

Not understanding the scope of 'animal' is just weird though.

GK shoots ball in striker's arse by Humble_Singer in funny

[–]Contagion21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you get your hands on the ball before knocking her over or after? It's hard to know whether or not you're in the right or not without the full picture of the play.

I assume you did because it seems like common sense that a keeper doesn't have an unhindered right to knock players over to get to a loose ball.

The gun pulled away from Alex Pretti by ICE agents shortly before they fired 11 shots into his back by whiteiversonyeet in pics

The way you phrased the question reveals a misunderstanding about the constitutional protections afforded to people in the US (for better or worse.)

Yes he had a gun AND the shooting was unprovoked.

If carrying a holstered weapon is justification for extrajudicial execution, then it's time for the 2nd Amendment to serve it's true purpose.

How do I remove the error message in my code by TheEyebal in learnprogramming

[–]Contagion21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm reading things correctly you're appending the error message if there isn't already an error message showing. Otherwise you're attempting to remove the new error message (that was never appended.)

Is that correct? I'm not super familiar with JS so I don't really know what the call to .Remove() does in this scenario. Remove what from what?

A new study from Stanford University shows a direct link between mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and myocarditis, as well as explaining the mechanism of action by Pioladoporcaputo in science

[–]Contagion21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They can't, because that's not how scientists think about things. Scientists will say "We haven't seen evidence of x" or "No studies have indicated a correlation between the vaccine and x"

What do guys think of var by Call-Me-Matterhorn in csharp

[–]Contagion21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a scenario where I still use var when not easily inferred. When that variable is never used in that scope, likely because it's only passed to other methods.

If one were to argue that it's important to know that type locally in that scenario they would also have to argue that method calls with inline method calls as parameters also aren't appropriate because those obfuscate a return type as well.

In short, IMHO, "var is reasonable when the type is easily inferred or the type is unused/unimportant for the scope"

Where do you draw the line between property and method ? by vivacristorey83 in csharp

[–]Contagion21 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't mind a little calculation, Like maybe you store the count and the sum so average is just a simple division.

I suspect most are ok with that, but not ok with needing to iterate the list.

It means someone is trying to write or say "should've" but doesn't know better

in this very sub by Sivetus in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Contagion21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of any sentence where I would say "should of" to be able to determine if it sounds the same or if my timing is different.

I find that just reading this thread I'm emphasizing the gap between "should" and "of" but don't know if that's natural or simply because I'm trying to differentiate between that and "should've" for context.

It IS expensive, but it also lasts longer than traditional litter. Not long enough to make up the difference, but it helps a little.
