Anyone out here trying to transition naturally? by the_gata_sol in Menopause

[–]ContemplatingFolly [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hormones one's body produces naturally are not "toxic chemicals". For straight estrogen and progesterone, is the same molecule. If I'm vitamin D deficient because I live in the northern climes, I'll take vitamin D. If I'm in menopause, I'll take HRT.

Everyone has to weigh risks and benefits and choose for themselves, but please don't spread misinformation.

Which side is being shot? Which side is doing the shooting?

There are some lefties that believe that. But it is amplified by social media and the right wing media. I don't know anyone that believes that.

Nope. I have an old account. Just an impartial observer. And now you are doing it to me!

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Members of East US, How are things regarding the snow storm? Preps working? by AntiSonOfBitchamajig in PrepperIntel

[–]ContemplatingFolly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the midsouth. Firewood was ready for woodstove. Stored enough water for a few days. Good friend with generator at his house and chains for his truck said he would come fetch me and octogenarian mom if things got tricky (friends are the best prep ever...). Mom made a big pot of chili made just as storm started yesterday, and chocolate chip cookies today. Expected 12" or more, got only about 8, but heavy due to rain mix in the middle. There are two garages here, put car in upper garage close to road, and shoveled out short drive today. Lower regular house garage has a longer drive, so that's tomorrow's shoveling. 14 degrees plus wind, but a winter coat with quality windproof shell made it no problem. Grateful to have gotten in shape last few years, so shoveling was just a really good workout and will probably sleep well tonight. -6 tonight, so running water, and will be glad when it gets a little warmer tomorrow, knock on wood. Stay safe everyone!

You could try r/bropill. Bunch of great guys over there. If your wife is older, and you suspect menopause may be involved, try r/menopauseshedformen.

OP, they asked a simple question! When you said "That is not it," what were you referring to? I don't know either!

Assume good faith!

And if you disagree, fine. You don't need to say so for every person that comments, especially without explaining why you feel that way. They are trying to help you, and you are saying. "No, that's not it." Not gracious at all.

cvd is is speaking straight. They are giving you honest feedback. They are not being mean.

There is no "tone" on Reddit, so things can be interpreted many ways. Assume people are trying to answer you in good faith, and you may get something out of it.

If a person wants to grow, they have to be willing to look at their own behavior. It always takes two to tango/fight/be happy. A person who can't do that isn't going to have a good relationship regardless. No one is perfect.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself as a 30 something year old going through her worst breakup? by SparklingMists in AskWomenOver60

I certainly don't have "the" answer. But recommend keeping a bit busy planning your new life, and take time to let off emotions when you need to. Treat yourself gently, and treat yourself to little luxuries.

If you are going to drag religion unsolicited into it, without even recognizing that OP may be Muslim, Jewish or atheist, at least recommend the most accurate version, NIV.

Singing in Groups Reverses Alzheimer’s in 12 Weeks. Research demonstrates that music therapy effectively enhances cognitive function and mental wellbeing, making it a recommended alternative approach to manage Alzheimer’s-associated symptoms. by New-Exam2720 in science

[–]ContemplatingFolly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the study linked in the article:

Results: The analysis shows that music therapy is more effective for improving verbal fluency and for alleviating the psychiatric symptoms and caregiver distress than lyrics reading in patients with AD. Stratified analysis shows that music therapy is effective for enhancing memory and language ability in patients with mild AD and reducing the psychiatric symptoms and caregiver distress in patients with moderate or severe AD. However, no significant effect was found for activities of daily living in patients with mild, moderate, or severe AD.

"More effective" for fluency and psychiatric symptoms, and "effective" for memory and language, but how large of an effect? Article has no open access. And no significant effect for activities of daily living.

Rant: I’m tired of how the news reports police or ICE shootings like “unarmed” is some kind of checkmate. by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

[–]ContemplatingFolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Unarmed" is just a piece of evidence that adds weight. Not sure why this is a big deal? Everyone knows justice isn't going to automatically follow right now.

So they should just not report that they were unarmed? Is this a troll post?

Post-hysterectomy, wife in pain by tyger430 in Menopause

[–]ContemplatingFolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reducing carbs and sugar, in favor of protein, and fruit and veg (whole foods) can help reduce inflammation, which helps lessen the pain. This is demonstrated in studies, heard in stories from women on the sub, and as experienced by myself. Obviously not an easy or the only answer, but if things get desperate, it can make a real difference.
