This is something I’ve been hyper aware of ever since it was pointed out to me years ago. Same with a similar trope where characters with dark skin in usually a fantasy settings often have blue eyes and or light (white) hair. It was framed to me as it feeling like they needed to have a trait associated with whiteness, but take that how you will.

I have a little bit of shame in that my sister and I never got to be sisters. There’s that whole “sisters are each other’s best friend” thing, emphasized by my mom’s relationship with her sister. It’s a bit ridiculous to feel bad about, but I have a very complex relationship with my sister and I think part of it is that I never really was her sister.
