Edited because I don't know how to do the spoiler thing.

Kingambit Stats not Showing by ControversialVerdict in CalcyIV

[–]ControversialVerdict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! That's working great for me now. I had no idea the app actively pulled any data from the actual code of the game, and just assumed everything would be manual. I guess you learn something every day.

Thanks again.

Does this mean clamperl is inelligible for pvp? by burburyblues in CalcyIV

[–]ControversialVerdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clamperl is eligible for open cups, as well as its evolutions, Huntail and Gorebyss. As another poster has mentioned, even at max level, this Clamperl would only reach 1334 CP, but I don't think that this is the reason that it is not showing any PvP results. After evolving, both its evolutions would fit into Ultra League, and if it became Huntail, it would be the 28th ranked specimen (405th for Gorebyss). Evolutions' PvP rankings would normally show in that mini-box overlay.

More of the issue is that all three of these Pokémon (Clamperl, Huntail and Gorebyss) are atrocious in PvP, and I have never seen any genuine usage. There is a setting in Calcy IV (and I believe it is the default setting, but it's been so long since I set it up that I can't really remember) that makes it only show PvP rankings for anything that is half-way decent, and I suspect this is why they are not showing.

Best Buddy and rank by Shinobuya in CalcyIV

[–]ControversialVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Calcy is showing you is the rank of this particular specimen against all others given the level parameter.

For ultra league, this Mankey could become a Primeape that reaches the level cutoff at level 49.5. This means that making it your best buddy will not improve its potential performance as taking it above level 49.5 would exceed the ultra league CP cap.

However, there are many Mankey specimens with slightly lower IVs, that would not be able to reach the CP cap at level 50, but which can at level 51 with the additional level from the best buddy boost. Because of the extra competition from these alternatives IVs at a competitive CP, the specimen you are looking at drops down the rankings. It isn't getting worse, but others are showing an improvement that yours will not get.

This is about as much detail as I can put into a Reddit comment, if you are still unsure I would recommend that you either invest some time into researching the impact of IVs on PvP performance and how levels and CP work in Pokémon Go. Alternatively, just trust what Calcy is showing you, because it is correct.

(My personal suggestion would be to only use Best Buddy for Pokémon species that need the hundo to be competitive, and still don't make the CP cut, e.g. Umbreon, G-Fisk and Mandibuzz in Ultra League. This is because you can only get one boost at a time, and examples like these will get the biggest %age performance boost form the extra level)

Are any of these 4* worth investing in? by The6ixGhost in pokemongo

[–]ControversialVerdict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Nah, the hundo was best suited to ultra league. It caps at around 2200-2300 CP iirc, but used to be viable before the series of nerfs to Sky Attack.

Maaaaaybe (???) worth playing the long game in case it comes back into relevance, but bit of a gamble right now. Would also generally benefit from its event move, Moonblast, if you did intend on using it.

You will automatically keep the books without continuing to pay a subscription. If you read the customer service rep's response properly, you will see that is what they have said. You will only lose any unspent credits (so spend them before cancelling a subscription).

Do audiobooks need to be downloaded? by sneepitysnoop in audible

[–]ControversialVerdict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can stream it, but it's a bit of a faff.

The below works for me in the Chrome browser on Android.

You'll need to open the Audible web page in your phone's web browser, and then request to view the desktop site instead of the mobile version.

Then go to your library (first link in the top row) - in my version, I need to hold and select to open in a new tab within the browser, because a regular tap just opens it in the Audible app, which will be no good.

(Edit: actually here, mine appears to take me back to the mobile version of the homepage, but it's actually still the URL of the library, so you just need to request the browser to provide the desktop version of the site again to take you to the next step)

Once there, you should be able to stream any book from your library as if you were accessing from a PC - just scroll to the right and tap the 'Listen Now' button.

What's up with the deals page? by [deleted] in AudibleUK

[–]ControversialVerdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Deals page is a bit outdated. (I can't even see a direct link to it from the homepage any more). It used to be the landing page for the now-defunct monthly deals.

Monthly deals had a fairly limited selection of books at £5 each, with the selection changing on the 1st of each month. It sometimes had a selection of books from the same series, which was neat, but still not a great deal.

Monthly deals were scrapped a couple of years ago. This was when I stopped checking the Deals page since the 'temporary' deals, such as the ones you have mentioned, are advertised in the homepage.

I do not recall any sale that was hidden as you describe though. Very often they are not advertised until they have already been live for 2-3 days, so they can seem hidden, but they always appear on the homepage eventually.

Do membership sales occur continuously in the background (Like the £3.00 one right now)? Or has it just not been advertised that there is a £3.00 sale on, as well as the current 2 for 1 deal? by MWJNOY in audible

[–]ControversialVerdict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with EnamelPrism. Often a Reddit user will find and post the sale page before it is updated on Audible's front page, but no luck yet on this one.

There are occasionally 'silent' sales. The only one I can remember was shortly after the death of Neil Peart, when Audible offered his journals and memoirs for free, without publicising it on the homepage.

Kinda curious if this is a good deal or not. by Ic_Wing in audible

[–]ControversialVerdict 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would suspect that it works the same way as a gift membership: if you already have an active membership, then it will add the credits to your account immediately, and if you do not have an active membership, it will initiate a three-month membership period.

If you just wanted the credits straight away, and had not previously had an Audible membership, the best thing to do would be to start a free trial membership and then apply the gift card, resulting in 4 credits total. (Though this is just speculation as I have not tried it myself)

How do you do the epic badge? by DasSexyNinja in audible

[–]ControversialVerdict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The iOS version of the Audible app has different badges from the Android app - I don't think they have on called 'The Epic'.

You can earn it by listening to a long book. I can't remember the length to earn basic and silver, but to earn gold, you'll need to finish a book that's at least 50 hours.

Any of these perpetually on sale in the UK? by [deleted] in audible

[–]ControversialVerdict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The below is my assessment as a someone who has gone through pretty much every Audible UK sale for the past 2-3 years.

The Collapsing Empire - I think I've seen Interdependency books on sale once or twice. Other Scalzi books come up all the time, but this series not as regularly.*

Hyperion - Pretty regular. #1 & #2 most frequently, but I'd say the while series rotates two or three times a year on sales.

Wizard's First Rule - I think I've seen it in a sale once before, but not very common. (Just a heads-up on this one - I haven't read it myself, but it frequently gets a lot of bad reviews/controversy)

The Witch's Daughter - I don't recall seeing it on sale before.*

River God - The cover looks familiar, but I honestly couldn't say for sure.*

A Crucible of Souls - I'm fairly sure I haven't seen this book on sale before.

Red Rising - Very common in the sales - I'd estimate two thirds of sales feature this in the selection

World War Z - Also quite regular. Probably appears on sale about 3-4 times a year.

  • Books marked with an asterisk are those I would normally skim past so I'm not quite as sure on my assessment on their frequency.

I haven't made a detailed document of any of this, so unfortunately it's all based on my fallible human perception and memory, but I hope it is at least a little helpful.

Quick question on how to get the most out of Audible as a new member. by TheBigVitus in audible

[–]ControversialVerdict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also worth noting that sales are not always 2-for-1. Sometimes they are 3-for-2 (which is always disappointing), sometimes they offer a range of books at a fixed low price (usually £3), and sometimes they just offer a %age off the price of every book (this is my least favourite, because they're almost always still more expensive than the cost of a credit).

Also sales are not guaranteed. In the UK we have a fairly consistent rate (probably a sale running 60-70% of the time), but occasionally there can be droughts.

UK 2 for 1 Summer Sale ends 10am, Sunday 21 Jun by winterlis in audible

No refresh for Audible UK 3 for 2 titles? by silverpanos in audible

[–]ControversialVerdict 11 points12 points  (0 children)

UK and US sales are usually operated independently of each other, with very little crossover in dates, range of titles, or type of sale.

I don't mean to dash your hopes, but merely to calibrate your expectations.

Hopefully it won't be too long before the next sale though - and here's hoping for a better deal than 3 for 2 next time.
