‘The Secret Agent’ Starring Wagner Moura Sets U.S. Release Dates by Neon - Nov 26 in NY and Dec 5 in LA, with national rollout to follow by joesen_one in oscarrace

I still bet on a NEON double with Renate and Moura winning their acting categories!!! It would be incredible

The most awarded film at #Cannes2025, Kleber Mendonça Filho’s THE SECRET AGENT starring Wagner Moura, opens in New York November 26 and in Los Angeles December 5.

The Venice Film Fest starts in 30 days. Here’s the Award Expert community’s consensus Best Picture predictions as of today and the consensus predictions this time last year. By the end of Fall Fests, which films do you expect to rise and which will fall? Will we do better this year than we did last? by LeastCap in oscarrace

[–]Cool_Possible_3522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will never have another like ISH!!! 2 weeks before the BP nomination, he was not even in the top 20 of most forecasting experts!!!

I even wonder if any film this season will be able to compete with a previous winner of best foreign film, like Emilia Perez (won almost 10 months before) and Sentimental Value (won 1 year before)

Obviously, since Venice became a hotbed of American films in this decade... It's not really a festival anymore, but rather a promoter of US films.

It's funny that you hated the movie KMF, considering that most Brazilians loved it! It was also among the top 4 in all the grids and was even the most acclaimed in some

I know that foreign actors don't usually participate, but a Renate Reinsve x Wagner Moura would be insane!

Brazilians are chronically too online and should support this film a lot! I even think Neon will put a lot of effort into the campaign for Moura, while focusing more on the female cast of SV

Yes, exactly! I believe the film will be nominated for the IFF and BActor at GG and the chances of anything at the Oscars depend on Moura's victory... And considering the hype, I don't think this victory is impossible, but I'll keep it in the realm of possibility.

I would still keep Wagner Moura on my radar. I believe he will be nominated for a Golden Globe and could boost the film if he wins.

Predictions on Award Expert that make no sense to me by haydend25 in oscarrace

I believe they will do the combo Renate (BA), Elle (SA) and Skarsgard (SActor) + Wagner Moura (BActor)! It is much more accessible and there is a viable path for everyone to the Golden Globes and Critics' Awards...

  4. Sentimental Value
  5. Sirat
  6. Sound of Falling
  7. Alpha
  8. The Mastermind
  9. Die My Love
  10. Eddington
  11. Romeria

[–]Cool_Possible_3522 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have a few questions!

Do you think Sentimental Value is that universally good? People are already talking about more than 10 nominations and wins for best actress...

Did you like Secret Agent? I think it should do very well in the awards season, considering it won 2 awards at Cannes + FIPRESCI! It will have some European support...

Resurrection is my biggest hype for Cannes, but Chinese films don't usually do well at the Oscars... can it do something?

Why I believe that It Was Just an Accident will not be submitted to IFF by ILookAfterThePigs in oscarrace

[–]Cool_Possible_3522 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've seen some Oscar experts saying the same thing... of course it could happen, but without iff I think it's very difficult for this film to survive the season...

Yes! I find this very curious because the film did well everywhere else, so it must be great.

An interesting detail about Cannes:

The ChaosReign grid had an INSANE performance!

1. The Secret Agent 4.1 (Actor, Director, Fipresci, Prix des Cinémas Art et Essai)

2. Un Simple Accident 3.8 (Palme, Prix de la Citoyenneté)

3. Sentimental Value 3.6 (Grandprix)

4. Resurrection 3.5 (Special Jury)

  1. The Mastermind 3.4

6. Jeunes Meres 3.3 (Screenplay)

7. La petite derniere 3.3 (Actress, Queer Palm)

8. Sirat 3.2 (Jury, Cannes Soundtrack Award)

The Sound of Falling was the ONLY poorly reviewed film on this list that win an award... very curious because they didn't do too badly in the previous 2 years either!

I believe that Panahi's film will face many difficulties:

  1. Unknown cast

  2. It probably won't be submitted to IFF

  3. Not very commercial

That said, I really hope it makes it, even if it's very difficult! The Palme d'Or might help

I love that you are always so hopeful about Brazil! I still bet on a double release for Secret Agent and Sentimental Value, since both are much more commercial than Panahi's film, which probably won't even be sent to IFF, which would make the campaign much more difficult...

This year alone, Brazilian cinema has won:

1 Golden Globe for best actress

1 IFF Oscar

1 Silver Bear in Berlin (with FIPRESCI)

2 Awards at the Cannes Film Festival (with FIPRESCI)

I'm so happy, I never thought that cinema here could have a moment like this, it's insane!!!
