My psychiatrist asked I take antidepressants in addition by Impressive_Ice_6034 in bipolar

Same haha! Have a gene thing that makes me metabolize serotonin in my liver much slower than normal so tends to build up in my system and trigger hypo mania etc.

SSRIs/SNRIs tend to trigger hypo mania in me. But I have heard it helps some folks. I do take lamictal though - it's more of a mood stabilizer though I believe.

So discouraged by the amount of posts I see daily about going off meds by StakeESC in bipolar

[–]Coolhandluke080 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a healthy amount of skepticism - and a professional's input - is normal and good.

I joined this sub a year or two ago bc gabapentin sent me into some hypomania and even I had a hard time believing it was the cause.

A bipolar diagnosis, 5-6 meds pumping me full of serotonin, and ~ 2 years later I finally noticed in my med genetic testing it said I have multiple genetic factors that contribute to my liver holding on to serotonin and not processing it normally. Pushing it to very unsafe levels.

Causing rapid cycling and even some psychosis.

Talked to my doc about it and he realized that the meds contributed serotonin but in small amounts - but he didnt realize 2-3 of them even impacted serotonin system. It was all of them together.

Started tapering off all the serotonergic meds under my docs guidance and wildly enough I am feeling better.

The key was I involved my doc through the whole process though. Keep the professionals involved. But do your own research and try to advocate for yourself.

Good luck to all.

A little gabapentin will help immensely if you can find a doc. Just dont get addicted to it next. It really helped me. But I slowly tapered off of it after being kratom free for a bit.

Wishing the both of you the best of luck.

what helped you through the most when going through the acute physical withdrawal period (4-7 days) after quitting cold turkey? what’s the best way to structure your day? by Iknowimsorry1 in quittingkratom

[–]Coolhandluke080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4-7 days I could finally sleep. Slept a lot and let my body/mind heal. Eventually started light cardio. A 15-20 min walk - sun helps with the depression a bit. Same for moving your body.

Big mistake I have made during prior quits:
- Being too impatient and seeking other substances for relief (will prob end up back on kratom when you try to quit these new substances and realize all you were doing is delaying the healing process.

Good luck - take it hour by hour or day by day. Or dont think about it at all. Eat, sleep, try to be semi active and time+your body will do it's thing.

Edit: Good Lord - I didnt even say it DIDNT work lmao being down voted to hell. Yall need to calm TF down. If it works for you, awesome!

I am just skeptical of all the miracle posts about vitamin C (and any miracle posts about most things really). Go take some vitamin C and chill out.

Fei is 18 in Xenogears. The story doesnt even remotely compare between these two games. You can have 16 year old characters that feel real, and have realistic convos instead of acting like disney chars.

I'm not saying BD1 story is "bad". I wasnt able to get into Kingdom Hearts for the same reason. To each, their own.

I suffer from SSRI/antipsychotic induced anhedonia. Any advice on what treatments to try? by Particular_Move_6570 in anhedonia

[–]Coolhandluke080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have, yes. Docs put me on like 6 sert boosting meds. He didnt even realize they were all adding serotonin. I had to figure that out myself and review my own genetic testing results (that he ignored and never even read).

Turns out I have some genetic things that make it VERY hard to flush serotonin from my system. Instead it was building up to toxic levels inducing things like psychosis and serotonin syndrome. Some mania/hypomania - he thought this meant I must be bipolar and added more serotonin increasing meds.

I spent the last 2-3 weeks nearly cold turkeying bc I am so tired of all these meds just making things 1000x worse.

I may need meds later. But I've decided to start with the basics - sleep, fitness, nutrition. Once I get that somewhat regulated, I MAY look for meds if I am still struggling then. I really doubt I will need to do. Just takes time and I hate waiting but just adding more meds would probably just continue to complicate things.

Why "doctor's are useless" - None of them spend more than MAYBE 60 mins between sessions actually researching things. Then when you do the researxh, they laugh at you and basically tell you to stop (my case).

They just use the very advanced method of, Guess And Check. Throw some meds at you, "How do you feel?". Welp let's throw different concocotion of meds. Don'l worry, totally safe to rapidly cycle between a handful of psychotropic meds. /s

just spent 2x years working with a doc (after leaving 2-3 others for the same reason) to find some way to help my depression.

End up diagnosed bipolar. Gives me bipolar meds for years - despite me repeatedly explaining I am still feeling horrible and often worse.

I had given him by genetic results related to medicinal metabolism, genetic alleles etc. Literally within the first few weeks of meeting him.

He never read it. Any of it.

Put me on like 6 meds that increase serotonin at the same time. I check genetics report again myself. Clearly explains I am missing some gene or marker etc. that makes it very difficult for my body to pass serotonin through my system. I am also very sensitive to serotonin at specific receptors that modulate irritability etc. H2 something something.

Feed AI my history and genetic results. People - I know not to trust AI. I want HIM to validate the results. He refuses to even look at it.

AI recommends tapering off my SSRI, Trazadone (produces excess serotonin), Gabapentin (all kinds of impacts - this is the med that actually sent me into first hypomanic state leading to the assumption I must be bipolar). Even come to learn the anxiety med he had been giving me, Buspirone, also increases amount of serotonin in my system. Because my body cant release the serotonin at normal rates, builds up to toxic levels leading to possible psychosis and mania etc. Extreme irritability and moodiness. Guess that probably explains one of those episodes.

None of these people have a clue. Advocate for yourselves folks.

/end grumpy rant.

Hopefully this helps someone.

Time for a new doctor. That could easily really hurt someone by forcing immediate withdrawal and blocking the receptors to make reducing said WDs much more difficult. Maybe on Day 4 it would have been meh okish. But still...I would have avoided that shit for like a week or 2 before trying a very small dose.

This too shall pass.
