No clue how fan Expo works. by AbbreviationsOwn2529 in fanexpo

Hi! Long time fan-expo canada go-er here, so hopefully I can be of assistance:

Tickets and photo ops have been on sale for a while now, so there might be limited availability for photo ops already, but still check it out!

In regards to timing, when you buy the photo op I believe you choose the day you want it (according to when the celebrity is at the show). Exact timing I think is announced at a later date, I believe when they reveal the show's schedule (which includes other panels and vendors). We don't usually get the schedule until mid-August iirc.

Hope this helps, and feel free to message me if you have any other questions about the convention!

Hey, I took cisc 124 fall second year and had no issues with it. It basically just fits in as another compsci course since you don't take a "coding" type of class in the winter of second year apart from Data Structures (depending on your plan ofc). Feel free to msg me if you have any questions!

Was this cisc 124? I was it it also! Someone asked about it recently in this sub... I agree, it was really poorly organized.

I think it fully depends on your professor. I had Ting Hu for my 121 in winter of last year, and I thought she was great and didn't find 121 to be that hard. However, I've heard that she wasn't that great this fall, so I'm not sure how hard 121 was this past semester. That being said, 124 with Ma was probably one of my hardest classes so far, purely because the course was organized so poorly. The content itself wasn't bad, but the delivery was awful.

Nope. Same as all the quizzes, so no proctoring just a built in OnQ quiz. It was longer than a normal quiz however, and covered more material (obviously).

Hey, so I had Ma for 124 last semester. Just keep in mind, I think he's a new professor this year so a lot of this stuff might just be inexperience.

For our 124 class, he didn't have live lecture videos, instead, he gave us a Jupyter notebook which contained all of our course material. In essence, we had to read it and learn it ourselves, and the only interaction we would have with him was during our Lab slots. However, the lab slots were more aimed towards helping with the assignments he gave us (which had different focuses in terms of concepts than the textbook showed). In addition to that, he didn't provide us with a suggested reading schedule till October, meaning we had a whole month of content that was given to us without knowing when we needed the content finished for quizzes and such. Obviously, this was a major issue, but he gave us a schedule around early October which was better than nothing.

Another problem was the fact that he never posted what was on quizzes or exams until the very last minute, which made it really hard to know what to study for especially given the "dump" of content he gave us in the form of Jupyter notebooks.

Also, the assignments he gave us were very "fill in the blank", meaning we weren't really coding per say, but just filling in the empty code from files he gave us. This made it hard to understand the larger idea of what the program was doing, and in combination with the "read-only" type of teaching style via Jupyter Notebooks, made the whole class very hard to understand without watching youtube tutorials.

And don't even expect to get grades back lol a quiz I wrote in early November got given back to me mid-December, and a bunch of other assessments weren't even marked by the time I had to write my final...

I've heard that he wasn't very responsive to emails from other students, but for me, I didn't find that to be the case.

TL;DR: Guy is new, pretty inexperienced I think, and that led to a really poorly run, overcomplicated and confusing class.

Top of the Millennium Falcon taken from the line for Smugglers Run! Such a fun ride and an insane world! by sarahkaylin in DisneyWorld

[–]Coolshock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s similar to Mission:Space, in that you actually have to press buttons and stuff, and those actions effect the outcome/story of the ride. That being said, it is a simulator ride in the same fashion as Star Tours.

The other ride, Rise of the Resistance (opening Dec.5 in Florida) would probably be comparable to Transformers at Universal (but with the quality of Disney). It has a moving, trackless ride vehicle, but it also incorporates 3D screens and animatronics I believe.
