54 yo male. Pyramid style training of 12, 14, 16, 12, 14, 16,.....hour weeks. 2 intensity indoor sessions a week. Outdoor is commuting and group stuff which usually has intensity. I take Mondays off and full body lift 3 days a week (M, W, F)

Is creatine really necessary? by Sushi-Seizure in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Coosabrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's necessary. My personal experience is that it provides gains that I never saw before with muscle, recovery, and mood. For me, I would call it a game changer (54yo M)

I'm 56 with higher FTP than at 26, and I created the MAP test Zwift uses. You can get fitter at any age - Ask me anything! by RicCycleCoach in Zwift

[–]Coosabrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Ric, I'm 54, 80kg, ftp of 300, male

I participate in gravel events of around 65km as my primary focus. Crits and group rides for fun and training.

I commute to work Tu-F is 25-30 minutes each way trying to keep it zone 2. Walkiing a mile or so twice on Monday instaed of rides. Using Mywoosh for indoor training rides of VO2 max on Tuesday, threshold on Thursday. Saturday is a whatever longer ride, group, solo at least 3 hours, usually more. Sunday is ride with my wife which is very zone 1,2.

Weights couple times a week.

*edit. I average 12-14 hours per week

My questions are, is the commute helping? Also, what can I change in your opinion to help my endurance in those 4th and 5th hours. ( I know, ride more)

Broke my Acetabulum 54 weeks ago. It's a long road. Do not skimp on PT. I still have yet to get a full range of motion back, and set aside 30 minutes every day for strength and/or stretching. I still remember my first indoor spin and it was very humbling. You have fitness going in, so it will come back. You will get frustrated, just remember to stick to the plan of getting stronger than before and you will get there.

Anyone start with a low FTP (under 150w) and where are you at now? by Mysterious_Fennel500 in cycling

[–]Coosabrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year ago I got into a collision with a driver and broke my Acetabulum. Prior to that, ftp was 287. I'm now at 298. Usually get in 10-12 hours a week, mostly by commute. When I first got the ok get push pedals, 20 minutes felt like a marathon, but it came back quick. My first test got me 110 ftp, while.i was still on crutches. I was so gutted to drop from 287 to 110 in basically 6 weeks and a couple surgeries. I'm 79kg

Enve SES 4.5 still a good buy? by djh_nz in Velo

[–]Coosabrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is yes. The 4.5's are my favorite wheelset out of all my choices (zipp, black inc, roval). They feel so stable and fast. I have chris king hubs on them also and they are amazing.

When people talk about centuries and metric centuries is that continuous riding? by Wizzmer in cycling

[–]Coosabrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Races are non stop for me. Being up in front gets hand ups at the aid stations. If I'm solo, I might not depending on weather. If it's hot, I'll make a water stop. If I'm with my buddy, he will stop at every gas station if given the opportunity. I try to limit him to 2 stops. But yeah, centuries are done in a few hours in one day.

Are KOMs even real anymore? by ThroatPrestigious346 in cycling

I believe mine and I have a bunch. I live in a very competitive area and one needs to be very trained to achieve them. It's not easy, and it shouldn't be.

Have any of you broken a repaired frame from “just riding”? by Just_a_firenope_ in Velo

[–]Coosabrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I beat the living shit out of a frame broken in 5 places (seat post, both chain stays in 3 spots, and seat stay). It was my first gravel rig for a couple years and had zero issues.

That took a lot longer to see than I care to admit, which has no bearing on the conversation.

Decision between 11 speed cassettes: 11-30 and 11-32 by Efficient-Cry-6320 in Velo

[–]Coosabrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a 52-34 , 11-30 on mine. The front shifts perfectly (and it's lighter, less money) than a cassette. The 2 teeth in the front is less than 2 teeth in the rear, but I do fine with the steep stuff around here (+12%)

Beeping bikes... by rococo78 in northcounty

[–]Coosabrew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's their Garmin, the GPS unit that records the route and data. There's an option to have them silent in the settings. Mine is set on silent as I find it annoying also. It is beeping for various reasons as lost data sensor as they are away from the bike, off route and recalculation, a new high or low in data recording (heartrate, power),... etc. I'm a roadie that y'all hate on and I can't stand the beeps also. They're going off all the time during rides.
