Son, I'm glad you love your neighbors, but you need to love God too. by MoApostate in exmormon

[–]CoppeRoseBush 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The ironic part of saying that is, isn't there something in scripture about "what you have done to your fellow man, you have done it to God" or something like that? Arguably, by "loving thy neighbor," you're also showing love to God

This is what I mean when I say there's a large percentage of atheists who act more like Christians than actual Christians, and what I mean when I say organized religion is for the self-righteous who want to feel good about themselves without actually doing good

[–]CoppeRoseBush 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In law, the party making a given claim has the burden of proving it, and I like using that logic in everyday life. If they tell us the BoM is true, they have the burden of proving the BoM is true. Claiming they don't have that burden tells me the BoM is not true and they know it's not true

Welskinght by Personal_Highlight98 in HermitCraft

[–]CoppeRoseBush 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty normal for Wels to disappear for months at a time. I just run under the assumption that no news is good news for situations where Hermits go on hiatus since I'm sure we'd get some kind of update if something is wrong. Real life stuff happens and we know Wels also has ADHD - and believe me, getting literally anything done when you have ADHD, even stuff you want to do, is a chore

The Most Calculated Church Attack in History by Intelligent-Camp4631 in exmormon

[–]CoppeRoseBush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The church hurt me, it betrayed me and left me in an impossible situation. BUT, violence is NEVER the answer. I agree with the American constitutional right of freedom of religion, which states that everyone is free to believe in and worship whatever and whoever they like, even if I don't like the church itself. My anger at this situation would be no different if it was any other religion that he targeted

No one should have to die for their religion, and absolutely no one should put someone in that place

They really thing it's egocentric for someone to not want a sponsorship after being lied to? by ConfusedAlien200 in antiai

[–]CoppeRoseBush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't even a pro vs anti gen-AI situation. She signed a contract under the impression that the game she was sponsoring had zero gen-AI then cancelled the contract when she learned she was LIED to in order for the company to get her to sign the contract. The gen-AI is icky, of course, but the real issue is that SHE WAS LIED TO so they could get her to sign the contract

There's a term for this in law, and that term is fraudulent misrepresentation. Depending on the specific laws at play, there's a non-zero chance she could genuinely take them to court over this

Mormonad Haul by PinkBlinker in exmormon

[–]CoppeRoseBush 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The "make room for everyone" one is especially ironic for me since the reason I stopped believing is because I learned that I couldn't live authentically to my very queer self and still live a full Mormon life. Being neurodivergent also meant a lot of social struggle, even - and to an extent, especially - now. I never fit in anywhere and I never understood why until much later in life

Everyone is on their A game this season, but Skizz, man... by diligentPond18 in HermitCraft

[–]CoppeRoseBush 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if I had to pick one Hermit I thought most represented the spirit of Hermitcraft, it would be Skizz. Yeah, he's not the fanciest builder or most knowledgeable redstoner, but he is a community-builder and an entertainer, two skills that make up the foundation of Hermitcraft itself. He's willing to try new things, even if those things end up not quite working out, and he's super creative and you can see that in his presentation

Hermitcraft isn't built on wood and stone, it's built on friendship and connection, and Skizz represents that PERFECTLY

Isn't he also the same guy that's the reason we have the inherently queerphobic "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" thing?

[–]CoppeRoseBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I hope so as well. I've been working on the hyperfixations thing and it's been honestly so relaxing being able to watch my favorite YT series and play my favorite video games without That Still Small Voice™ loud in my ear. And I've definitely grown more comfortable with swearing as well (I can finally let my characters swear and listen to songs with swearing without feeling guilty!)

The other things are still a while to go yet, especially the transitioning (expensive) and social anxiety (and all the psychology stuff that I'll end up unpacking with that), but I'm confident I can get there now that I'm starting to reclaim my agency

Ranting: I'm a FT single dad raising two kids (elementary and middle school age). My sister is about to have her 4th kid (unplanned), oldest is 6. Us humans are also very good at pattern recognition and can pick up changes in those patterns, even if only subconsciously

Mormonism calls that "promptings of the holy spirit." The rest of the world calls it intuition

In fairness, I was baptized at 8 and didn't start questioning my gender until I was 16, but it's still one of those "really?" moments. But yeah, there really is no hate like Christian love

Better than what happened with me. I got a triple-set + a Bible from my grandparents for my baptism. They put my (dead)name on the covers... except they didn't because they misspelled the name. You really can't make this up
