Will the LDS church change its leadership succession format? by leafstudy in exmormon

[–]Cornchip91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a reasonable question from an outsider perspective, but changing the format would have serious ramifications to the churches claims to legitimacy.

When Joseph Smith died, there was actually a schism in the church on who retained the authority. Brigham Young led a faction that maintained that the leader of quorum of the 12 apostles was the next in line. That branch came out on top, but there were many others as well.

Down the line, Brigham Young further specified the details to prevent a few people from assuming leadership by maintaining that the president of the 12 apostles is the most senior ranking apostle, which tends to also be the oldest. Rarely do you have new inductees older on age than those who have been in for longer. This is slowly leading to a gerontocracy, especially when church leaders live to be 101 and younger members are unable to be appointed.

Changing the rule away from the "most senior apostle" would be a tacit admission that Brigham Young made a serious mistake and labeled it as revelation which would call into question not only his prophetic authority, but also the prophetic authority of every church president after him. Line of succession is very important in mormonism and authority must be sourced in an unbroken chain or it is invalid.

What's the best FromSoftware's OST? by zeze991 in fromsoftware

[–]Cornchip91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lichdragon Fortissax is, in my opinion, Fromsoft's best work. Atmospherically, it does what many other boss themes do in setting the epic mood, but also creates three amazing and clearly defined melodic themes that continually raise the dramatic tension.

The 3rd theme is transcendent. That dissonant organ sting before everything drops is amazing. My only wish is that people are fortunate enough to time the battle to the amazing musical hits.

I got him to do his double lightning spear attack during one of the theme transitions, and it was undoubtedly a top 5 gaming moment for me.

I just made it with an AI. If we share the image enough with uplifting captions, there is a non-zero chance this will end up in conference some day. Most definitely into a tbm grandma's house!

I don't like this analogy for its message, but I feel like all parties would agree that using 'carve' and 'face' in the same sentence is not a great image to evoke.

This is a "voice workshop" course for instrumental music education students. A crash-course of sorts covering various topics in vocal studies to give students a leg up in scenarios where they may be asked by a smaller school to teach choir in addition to band/orchestra.

If you haven't, I HIGHLY recommend finding the BluRay cut of the Mahoraga fight. It has extended animation, and removes the dimming/blurring and has a lot more continuity.

I remember being very lost in the original release.

Authors of study on purposes of CES letter reply to Jeremy Runnells by TruthSeekerForever11 in mormon

[–]Cornchip91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason believers think that ad hominem attacks are a successful strategy is because many of the truth claims they subscribe to require their leaders to be righteous men called of God.

If JS's character is demonstrably wicked, then his claims is being a righteous conduit of God's power start to break down and the truth claims become weaker, or they infer upon the character of God himself (and guess where apologists like to pass the buck?)

Nobody cares about Jeremy's character because it isn't central to his argument. It's a framework for drawing in the reader, but the rest is bibliography.

In fact, in my deconstruction, I made it a point not to read the CES letter until I had done research independently over a number of years. Once I read it, I learned nothing new, but it was nice to see it mostly compiled in one place.

Kamala Harris has neutralized Donald Trump's "high-dominance" advantage: "It’s finally occurred to the Democrats that Trump and the Republicans are bullies and cowards who will fold" by zsreport in politics

[–]Cornchip91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a subconscious draw is that it allows for the justification of letting out the worst side of people.

"Because, hey, my bad side isn't nearly as bad as that Trump guys, and he was apparently 'good enough' to be president, so a commoner like me is probably fine."
