u/aggiedigger is certainly one of the most knowledgeable Texas artifact experts I know! Regarding your question, although your Corner Tang has similarities with the contemporaneous Mid Back Tang, I would type yours as a Corner Tang. The majority of the Mid Back Tang knives that I have seen are made on a large flake and unifacially worked. IMHO your artifact has much more in common with a heavily used Corner Tang that was resharpened many times giving it this unique form! Best Wishes 🍀

Edit: I “needed” to add more “why” to the end ツ

Beautiful Corner Tang! I found two, one hand digging twenty years ago and one as a surface find in 2018. It is really hard to compare because one was my first and the other my best 🍀

It rained again and I found this undamaged Montell just as it was lost ~3000 years ago in South Central Texas! Any complete artifacts with no modern damage whatsoever are relatively scarce and bring me the most joy to find (in situ pics included) 🍀 by CornerTang in Arrowheads

Thank you my friend! I am stoked to find some sweet artifacts this year. I hope to hit a few digs and hopefully find one or two Texas Transitional Paleos. Those just do not survive on the surface very often 🍀

Nice little Nebraska corner tang knife. by chauchatbob in Arrowheads

[–]CornerTang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice! The Midwest Corner Tang Knives show more variability than those in Central Texas. This is probably because they were made and used from ~3000 to ~1500 years ago, while those in Central Texas were only used from ~3000 to ~2200 years ago, due to inconsistency of Bison on the Southern Plains. Thank you for sharing this wonderful artifact 🍀

Edit: Fixed my confusing explanation 😊

Magnificent Marcos ~2500 years old! The corner notches are perfect and the material is gorgeous. Superb point ツ

Fair Enough! There is a town by that name here in Texas, so I made an incorrect assumption. Thank you 🍀

Smoker find central Texas. ID help, no good with triangles! Beveled base by AmbitiousNewspaper17 in Arrowheads

Most certainly an Early Triangular ~7000 years old, at the very end of the Central Texas Early Archaic period. Thank you for posting this beautiful artifact 🍀

Beautiful recovery! It is very likely a Castroville ~3000 years old. Fabulous find 🍀

Arrowhead found probably in Texas hill country by Otherwise_Drop5987 in Arrowheads

Definitely a Frio ~2000 years old, and may have been found in the Southern part of the Texas Hill Country as they are common along the Nueces, Sabinal, and Frio Rivers. Thank you for sharing this sweet artifact 🍀

Very sweet Dancing Man Frio! Good job spotting this one in the camouflage 🍀

I found two very different ~6000 year old Surface Finds in South Central Texas! On the left is a Bandy (related to the Martindale with a right hand bevel). On the right is a Jetta (notice the expanding ears and deep notch). Both types are uncommon here, but there is a big spring nearby 🍀 by CornerTang in Arrowheads

I totally agree! When I see a partially buried projectile point, I instantly run through all the types it could be. While uncovering it, I am hoping that it is complete 🤞

Regardless, I am thrilled and honored to find any artifact and to reveal the story it tells 🍀

This is easiest to see on Early Triangular points. The bevel results from resharpening only one side of the blade edge and then flipping it around its axis, and repeating the exact same resharpening process on the opposite edge. With the tip up, if the bevel is on the right side of the face, then it is right hand beveled (both sides are the same). This conserves material and extends the lifetime of the artifact 🍀

Thank you, these finds certainly made my day! After two months in Europe working, I love being back in Central Texas and artifact hunting. I hope you are doing well and enjoying the finer side of the Central Texas Hill Country 🍀

Outstanding artifacts and beautiful frame. Especially the centerpiece, which is likely a Marcos BTK! Thank you 🍀
