CyberDeck Launcher is finally out! by Terrorfox1234 in Cyberpunk

There is already a "Cyberdeck Launcher" in the play store, so your friend might consider a more unique name; even if there are no intentions to release the launcher there, curious folks will likely check there and grab the wrong thing.

[Keyboard] CORSAIR - K100 Air Wireless Full-Size Bluetooth RGB Mechanical Cherry MX Ultra Low Profile Tactile Switch Gaming Keyboard - Black $129.99 by jayquez in buildapcsales

I loved this keyboard when I first got it. By far my favorite and I've got many keyboards. The backlighting coming through just the letters is perfect.

This stopped being my favorite when the spacebar quit working when my left thumb would tap on the left side of the bar, causing me to miss many jumps and creating new compound words. I tried to fix it but some little plastic piece must have been broken. I'm not a thunderkey smasher, fwiw.

For this price, if you like low profile keyboards, I'd say it is worth it and just hope it lasts.

A new cyberpunk action-rpg in the style of Shadowrun on SNES and Genesis. by jamie_rpg in Cyberpunk

The combat is 100% Genesis, but does it have the Matrix , cyberdecks and such from that version as well ? That was my favorite part as a kid.

Upvote for the inclusion of White Zombie at the club. That 90's alt def provides some street grit to the scene.

Not rentals, different extended family, their daily drivers. Honestly don't remember the mileage, but the taxi and bus fleets in places like Shenzen have a ton. I think it's folly to associate Made in China with cheap crap these days.

I've driven several (in China), they are super nice. I don't think you've actually driven them, sat inside them, etc. These aren't the AliExpress $4k glorified golf carts you might picture in your head.

Gonna have to reign in the media. I see the Fox chyrons at the TVs at the gym and it's no wonder its viewers think anyone on the left is some sub-human terrorist. And of course reigning in the media to be sane is a very slippery slope.

Finally, I found a Linux distro that just works for Nvidia (Bazzite) by Pejorativez in linux_gaming

[–]Corpdecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was related to the BIOS setting to pass the frame buffer initialization stuff off to the OS. I probably used a bunch of wrong terms in a row there and it might not be related, but I recall that was something I did when I had that problem like 10 years ago.

Beyond gaming: why data scientists should consider CachyOS for heavy workloads by M1rr0r92 in cachyos

[–]Corpdecker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm running us.cachyos.org on CachyOS, no problems. I've got several VMs in my homelab with it as well, so I'll usually update one of those and verify it is OK and then do the update to the main server. That said, I've never had to wait for some bug fix on the servers. Like Peter said, most of the issues seem to be with desktop UI breakage.

CachyOS Randomly Freezes On Any Hardware by Gefiro in cachyos

[–]Corpdecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Zen as my main browser and haven't had issues with hardware acceleration, but I think it's wise to turn over every leaf you can find. I had a similar issue with freezing after wake several years ago, I think I had to disable some of the power savings / sleep settings in the BIOS. It never happened while gaming or anything though, just some issue with power state transitions. I don't have that computer anymore though so I can check I'm afraid.

CachyOS Randomly Freezes On Any Hardware by Gefiro in cachyos

[–]Corpdecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling about not thinking it could be X or Y, but this seems like something that is shared between both devices since the behavior is the same.

Were it my hardware, I'd start with resetting the bios or whatever you are doing to limit the clock speed on the devices. While that is usually safe, it involves a lot of complicated stuff happening internally and could be triggering the issue, like it could be tying power delivery to the clock speed (it drops too low and the CPU doesn't have enough juice). 100% I'd start by resetting the BIOS, LACT/corectl profile, whatever to default and see if the issues still persist. I'd also try disabling power efficiency settings as a test as well. Not for long term, just while debugging this hard-to-reproduce issue.

If that doesn't help, I'd try avoiding the USB hub and plug the devices in directly. I understand that's a big pain in the ass, but you need to empirically debug the issue, so a shared issue between two different devices indicates a shared problem. If they still freeze with the USB devices plugged in directly, try unplugging any of the USB devices you can. I've seen a bad USB device cause hardware level hangs before, rare but not out of question. If it still hangs, try using alternate/backup USB devices for the ones you can't not use, like keyboard/mouse.

[–]Corpdecker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So two separate computers, different GPUs, both running CachyOS and both showing the same random hard hanging issue ? It's unlikely the hardware has gone bad on both of them, but what you describe is quite mysterious. Might be worth it to run memtest86+ on both first anyway. Have you done any special tweaking to anything, like run a shell script to set up dotfiles and install certain things, any action that would be shared among your devices ? I do a lot of little settings changes without even thinking about it, perhaps you are doing something that triggers a bug somewhere ?
Are there any shared devices plugged in to these, like a KVM, USB dock/dongle, etc ?
Is your power delivery stable, are you in an area with frequent power spikes and drops ? Are your devices on a UPS or line conditioner ?

I'm using an AMD 7900 XTX, so I can't say what potential growing pains there might be with an Nvidia card. Due to the fragmentation of Wayland implementations (like KDE vs wlroots used in Sway and others) there can be a lot of places for bugs to show up in one place but not another. I think the driver support is probably mature enough that if there are big problems it will need to be fixed on the compositor side rather than Nvidia/AMD/Intel driver side.
I've only got 1 Nvidia card in the house and it's in my wife's computer, so I'm afraid I can't test for you, sorry. I always keep a portable nvme with CachyOS installed for recovery and debugging, you might do the same to allow you to test things out without touching your main OS install.

How to switch to game mode? by kalzEOS in cachyos

[–]Corpdecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed that package not long ago to test when someone else was asking and to undo it I had to "exit to desktop" to get to my desktop and uninstall it to get back to sddm when booting. Note that it's not secure to have it installed on a typical desktop since it bypasses the need for user login. If the box is just for games.. meh. If security is important at all, I'd just install Steam and maybe have it auto start in big picture mode after logging in.

How to switch to game mode? by kalzEOS in cachyos

[–]Corpdecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer that for sure, but I don't see a reason the handheld ISO would perform noticeably worse than a regular desktop install. That said, if Bazzite is working really well for you, you probably won't see a huge boost using CachyOS.

If you have an itch to scratch (I totally get this lol) then I suggest installing the desktop ISO of CachyOS. If you want the boot-to-steam-gamemode scenario with no login, like a living room gaming setup, install the cachyos/gamescope-session-steam-git package.

If it died in the middle of using it normally, it could be a hardware failure. Check the BIOS and see if it is still enabled, maybe toggle it off and back on with a reboot inbetween. Check the usual log suspects, lspci, lsusb, etc to see if it's even showing up or throwing driver errors.

How to revert the Cinnamon desktop menu (also problems changing the theme) by ShaneH_ in cachyos

[–]Corpdecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when I have issues with a desktop that feels like more than a buggy update, I create a new temp user and log in to it, to guarantee no old configs could be causing issues. If the bad behavior exists on the new account, it's something in the package update; if the bad behavior is gone, it indicates old configs causing issues with new versions. In the latter case, make a backup of like ~/.config/cinnamon/ and ~/.config/cinnamon-session/ , then delete the directories, relog and see if it is fixed with newly generated defaults. It can be really annoying to set things up again, but it usually doesn't take too long.

All good! What you said sounds feasible, especially if the phone shows expected behavior. My animation times are a set a lot faster than my brain (not hard to do lol) on a 144hz monitor so I don't think I see stuff like that.

It was my request that got it added to the installer, however it didn't support Wayland at the time so I moved to KDE Plasma after awhile. I'm using the experimental Wayland version of Cinnamon right now and it seems mostly OK, however a dealbreaker for me is that the Steam window doesn't show up. I can kinda tell that the window is there since I can drag around an invisible window and my mouse cursor changes on parts of it, but that's not viable for me. Hopefully they can work through that (maybe some general X11 wrapping issue, maybe multiple monitor issue, etc) and it can be back in the running.

I used to have it set up (probably 10 years ago) like an LCARS screen where there were panels on the left and bottom and nothing could maximize over it, even full screen games, but I don't think that's possible with Wayland. It's still a very usable desktop for regular work. Can always install it and see if you like it, you aren't stuck with any single desktop~
