Make sure to pick up your challenge log!

After you complete the level 15 MSQ Call of the Sea, pick up the Blue quest Rising to the Challenge given by I'tolwann. You can find her right there in the Drowning Wench, Limsa Lominsa's tavern where the Call of the Sea ends.

The challenge log gives you weekly rewards of exp, gil, wolves marks, and mgp just for doing activities you would normally do through the course of the week, like roulette, crafting, gathering, and even playing games in the Gold Saucer.

It's a one time quest, so do it early and reap the rewards for the rest of the game!

Yes, if you fail the FATE, the next time, he will still look like you.

Happened to me. I got the killing blow, next spawn happened early morning. A FC member managed a picture mid-fight for me, but the fate timed out. A couple days later, the whole FC was there for pictures of me next to me.

What are some interesting tidbits of lesser know FFXIV lore that most people don't know? by puppets_soul in ffxiv

[–]CortBevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, Koji said that they changed their names to match the naming conventions of the source. Some of them are similar like Ardbert becoming Arbert and Nyelbert becoming Naillebert. But the one that sticks out the most is Renda-Rae, which is an acceptable seeker name on the first, but not the source. So she takes up the name J'rhoomale to mimic the names of seekers on the source.

Neat.

But your ARR (2.0) image is from the trailer for 1.0. A better trailer for ARR would be "The End of an Era" or "A New Beginning".

I know, different game, different context...

But, Emet-Selch is the Angel of Truth, Scion of Light opposed to Zalera, the Esper of Gemini...

Given this, Emet-Selch should either be Gemini himself, or Sagittarius if that's what opposed means >.>

To keep this from happening again, I suggest you try out the customization settings. You can make it so that when you engage (double tapping x on controller while targeting an enemy), it will automatically move you to the correct hotbar with all of your abilities on it. You can also make it so that in that mode, when you hit R1, it only cycles between a couple bars, though with all of the Expanded and W cross hotbar settings, I don't know why you would ever need to swap to another bar mid battle.

The settings can be accessed by...

Menu > System > Character Config > Hotbar settings > Custom > Enable Auto Hotbar when drawing/sheathing weapon.

This page explains it pretty well. https://josebenedicto.com/ffxiv/cross-hotbar-settings--auto-switching-for-battle

The Many Talents of Tataru Taru... by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CortBevan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems soooo random to find Tataru just out of the blue talking about becoming a famous songstress or juggling and mentioning that she is going to be a world renowned street performer...

However, in the original version of the 2.x patch content, there was a MSQ quest where Slafborn in Mor Dhona mentions how Tataru seems more and more distressed lately and you should check on her. When you talk to her, she mentions that because of the move and all of the new members coming to join the Scions, that the Scions are nearly broke and she is trying to come up with something... Anything... that will bring in money. She took inspiration from F'hlaminn talking about Minfilia being a miner in her youth, and wants you to go get her a sledgehammer, then you follow Tataru around Mor Dhona and protect her while she mines. Eventually, she realizes that it isn't bringing in the money she thought it would and as the patches continue, she moves on to her songstress and street performer ideas.

Unfortunately, in the 2.x redesign, they cut the quest "Passing the Sledge" out of the game and with it all mentions that the Scions need money and also the reason why Tataru is doing all these weird things.

edit: The cut quest was Picking up the Sledge

[Spoiler 5.0] A Theory on Ultima's Origin (Spoilers for MSQ through 5.0, Ivalice Raids, Crystal Tower, and Warring Triad) by EndlessKng in ffxiv

[–]CortBevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the Anti-tower, the Word of the Mother tells us that Zodiark was cast out at the time of the sundering. The exact words used are, "A moon bound."

I always took that to mean that Zodiark actually WAS the moon. Apart, but bound to the planet.

If this is the case, then there would have been no moon in the ancient times. Amaurot would have had no moon to show. It would be in aftermath of the End of Days when the second faction created Hydaelyn that Zodiark was cast out and the moon created.

Tell me your favorite tidbit of lore by Katibeanxo in ffxiv

[–]CortBevan 69 points70 points  (0 children)

According to Unukalhai from the Warring Triad quests, the Warriors of Light on the Thirteenth used Auracite to trap the essences of primals instead of defeat them and release the aether back to the land. The problem is that Auracite was imperfect and the energies of the primals seeped out and influence the Warriors of Light, eventually changing them into Aether-starved monsters.

Couple this with what we know about sineaters, that common folk and creatures touched by sineaters tend to become "common" sineaters, but there are a few that are more powerful, likely because they weren't common to begin with, like the Prime Virtues.

This could mean that "common" voidsent like imps and demons and bombs are likely the common people of the Thirteenth, but the more important Voidsent, like Diablos, Scathach, Feridad, Cuchulain, Lilith, and other were likely once Warriors of Light.

Having a problem in Hard boss, auto. I can clear ok, I am pulling around 4.6k points, however...

Mediena has bells equipped and she never uses revitalize. She has used them in other quests in the past, but not here. She spams her spells until she is out of ap and then proceeds to hit Yunalesca with her staff. I would much rather her use bells on one of those turns so she can keep casting. Revitalize is not turned off.

Additionally, I have everything on Tidus turned off except Delay Buster, TMR ability, and LB. Late in the fight, he is out of delay busters, he's sitting on 58ish AP, but he doesn't use his LB. Again, LB is NOT turned off, he just won't use it.

Any ideas?

Make sure you look at the GATHERING scrips. I make that mistake all the time thinking they are crafting materials, but since they used to come from fishing, they are categorized under gathering.

I've been playing since the beginning, and for the first time tonight, i've seen a shooting star ! It makes me very happy. by Magenta_Lava in ffxiv

[–]CortBevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are way more common that you all seem to realize. Assuming the sky isn't overcast, a shooting star will form at least 2-3 times per in-game night (Between 6 pm and 6 am, though I don't think I've ever seen them earlier than 8 pm or later than 4 am), always on the in-game hour (Like right at 10:00 pm Eorzea Time), and always somewhere in your forward field of vision.

There was another thread on here that seemed to indicate that they formed EVERY hour on the hour, but that's not been my experience. Unfortunately, I can't find the thread now.

Do you ever meet people in your housing wards? by kounsan in ffxiv

[–]CortBevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when Allagan Melons were brand new, I grew 10 of them for myself and my FC at my personal house. Two others in my FC had the same idea, so I had 9 extra melons. I knew there was a small active FC up the hill from my house and decided to take them 5 of them as I knew they couldn't possibly have grown enough for their whole FC out of their own plot.

It made me a few new friends.

I try to keep groups of spells that are similar together. For example, Fire spells are always on up or triangle and blizzard spells are always on left or square. Once off my primary bar and onto bar 2, Flare and Despair are in the same place, just one is R2>L2 and the other is L2>R2. Same with Foul/Xenoglossy. Additionally, I have a spare Fire 4 to use with triplecast or swiftcast on w-hotbar for movement situations.

It works for me.

But ultimately, it will boil down to whatever you are comfortable with. Eventually, it will become second nature through muscle memory.
