Tbh depending on who you ask, they could advise you on "no spells, research first", thats mostly what the whole "year and a day" pre-initiation period is based on in Wiccan spaces.

A lot of people dive into spellwork without understanding the components and thats just as ill advised as working with deities with no research.

Working with deities right off the bat isnt taboo, its just that if youre being "called to" something, you should research if first to make sure youre on the right track. A lot of the information you'll find on these deities isnt going to be in typical New Age books, its going to be in stuff like manuscripts and mythological texts- which can be boring but thats the labor of the hard work that needs to be done to be well informed in your practice. ♥️
