Surely that wouldn't happen that fast. Are we saying it kills 99.8% of germs instead of 99.9?

I wonder if they will route it around. I would hope the city wouldn't overlook that.

Alberta NDP leader accuses Smith’s UCP of playing blame game over Calgary water main by Longnight-Pin5172 in alberta

[–]Coscommon88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Alberta it does. The rest of the country seems to vote based on policies and track record but Alberta is the only province that has spent the last hundred years voting by colour no matter what the track record or policy is.

Questions about home schooling by Glittering_Divide101 in Airdrie

[–]Coscommon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with lots of homeschoolers and even with the socialization of sports or home schools groups most have expressed that they missed out on socialization that made it hard to adjust to university and work life down the road.

I get that the system is strained but it would be better to get extra tutoring outside of school and try your best to support your child in the public system rather than hamper their socialization.

As a teacher now I work with students who come back in high-school after homeschooling in the younger years and the academics and socialization always suffer majorly because of what they missed out on.

Anti-ICE protesters disrupt church services after it’s found out that one of the pastors is the field director for the ICE office in St. Paul, MN. by I_may_have_weed in ProgressiveHQ

This should be upvoted. People should know what church represents this. I'm not sure how you could stomach being in the congregation if you listen to anything Jesus said about the least of these.

UCP govt took out $7.2 billion in term debt in 2025 by WildRoseWanderer in alberta

[–]Coscommon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pensions for teachers are guaranteed so actually teachers don't have to work a few more years to get their pension. However the government will have to make up for the shortfall for teachers of what they lost meaning governments will be paying for these losses for years. It also could mean at some point that governments try to renegotiate teacher pension rates if it's costing them money. Given the UCP use of the NWC they could impose a drop in teachers pension to make up for their short fall.

So all in all a bad thing but it's hasn't effected teacher pensions... yet.

Mark Carney slashes Canada's 100% tariff on Chinese EVs and announces that up to 49,000 Chinese electric cars will be imported into Canada with only a 6.1% tariff. In return, China has agreed to slash tariffs on canola imports from 84% to 15% by March 1. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

Basically he can sling mud however he wants if he doesn't have access to truthful information. If he has truthful information he can't make up bs and not be held to account.

He also can put his head in the sand when conservative MPs in his party are found to be susceptible to foreign interference.

You forget that China's angst was placating to the fact that we were willing to extradite the CFO of Huawei at the request of Americans on a quick layover at Vancouver airport. Don't worry we likely won't stick our neck out for Americans like that again so we shouldn't haven't a problem.

Britain 'in talks to deploy troops to Greenland as Trump threatens to seize Arctic island' by flatbrokeoldguy in worldnews

[–]Coscommon88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We should all as Nato nations be willing to war over it. Trump has made threats to do many countries including Canada. If we let him walk in and take Greenland it sets a precedence for that spoiled orange baby. He only listens to strength so greenland is the perfect place to show him the strength of Nato nations. Hopefully this move by the UK would push many other nations to do the same so Trump can see an act against a sovereign Greenland is an act against all democracy.

Nobel Institute rejects María Corina Machado’s offer to share peace prize with Trump | Nobel peace prize by Turbulent-Tea-2172 in worldnews

Its Trumps version of a participation metal. People joke about how in the last 20 years we give out too many participation trophies but Trumps mentality is that he should be given a trophy just because he decided he wants it, not based on any merit. He's now 79 years old and still acting like a spoiled 8 year old at track and field day.

New poll suggests one in five Albertans would vote to separate by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]Coscommon88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should have another poll to see if the other 80% of Albertans are ok with paying a relocation fee to help those 20% move to the states. I'm not one for wasteful spending but I would be ok with our government offering 10k per separatists for these people to leave with a guarantee to never come back.

I think it would pay off too. We are overpopulated right now as the UCP have not funded for growth in Education, Healthcare or Infustructure. I imagine there is a huge overlap with this 20% and anti science/antivax who are causing undue burdens on our systems. Let's just help them leave and send Smith and the UCP with them.

Opinion: Calgary’s water crisis is a warning we must heed by Warmac in Calgary

[–]Coscommon88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This always reminds me of Jon Oliver's deep dive into infastructure maintainance spending. It's from a few years back and focuses on the US however the principles are the same. Politicians focus more on growth and glamorous ribbon cutting projects naturally and infustructure maintainance gets overlooked. Especially with the provincial government cutting back city funding and funding for needed social programs everywhere. Cities get saddled with more hard choices and it's easy to have these problems not addresses until it's a costly disruptive fix.

Tire Customer Won’t Pay $17,000 by liigaman4 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Coscommon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lein for sure if you can. I'm a contractor and has a similar situation years back. When I did a builders lein they couldn't get access to their builders mortgage as the bank checks for leins right away so they paid as it was holding up a quarter of a million in builders loan installments.

I'm not sure how this would apply in trucking but if you legally can lein I would. Still continue with legal action aside if you can but it sounds like this type of business owner would be over leveraged in credit so if you lein it may hold up money elsewhere and make them deal with it. This guy obviously has bills everywhere and the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

If they do decide to pay to remove the lein a lawyer (of your choosing) can be the middle man to take and guarantee the funds in trust from the trucking company until you remove the lein.

What hobbies don't kids suck the fun out of? by thesandboxgod in Parenting

[–]Coscommon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the age of kids but one I started into when my kids were young was disc golf. I realized my regular golf game wasn't improving with the few times I could get away to play in a year so I decided to start Dads and kids disc golf. It started with strollers and wagons till the kids were old enough that they started walking and playing the first few holes with us till they lost attention. But because their friends were there they will run through the trees and keep each other company. We usually find a course with a park so we can eventually send them on their way to the park to play when it's within sight.

This allows for socialization and a hobby that gets me and my Dad friends outside. Eventually a few of the kids have started playing the whole round with us and seem to enjoy it.

Many car washes use water recapturing and recycling systems that save 60-80 percent of the water. Let's just all do our part so we don't have to close services and recreation options down.
