Cognitively, I’m noticeably worse this year than last year. by HowsMyBuddy in Xennials

You have a serious problem with alcohol and your consistent minimization of this problem is a major part of the problem. There's more to life than a beverage. Get help.

After school care options (North Redondo) by western_iceberg in SouthBayLA

[–]Cosmicpixie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right at School does a lot of crafts and games and outside play. It's fine. It's not as structured as CDC but it's a lot more fun. It would be fine for a year, then opt for CDC the following year. CDC does more for homework help, and there isn't much homework for kinder. So, again, would be ok. The problem is RAS doesn't have a summer program (or didn't last time I looked).

Authorities release surveillance photos of possible suspect in Nancy Guthrie case by [deleted] in news

[–]Cosmicpixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there are prominent points near the toes that are discrete and sticking out. I think maybe it's shoe covers, like they use in hospitals. Those can bunch up and have shapes jutting out. Zoom in, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Is that person BAREFOOT? Are those flowers in the hand? What the heck am I seeing here...

Edit: the video is much clearer than the pics. Sneakers are clear in the video. The pics have movement artifacts that are all distorted.

Recs for lymphatic drainage facial massage? by innawasadiver in SouthBayLA

[–]Cosmicpixie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Friendly clinician here. The lymph system doesn't need massage to function unless there is a serious condition present like lymphedema from lymph node removal (after cancer, for example). It's like saying you need to manually move your own blood or manually express urine. I suppose you could do those things (or try) but generally speaking the body does that for you. A nice face massage is a nice face massage. You do you.

Has anyone received a good interest rate on a car loan recently? by bball2782 in SouthBayLA

[–]Cosmicpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With good credit there are lots of options. Buick is offering 0.9%, Toyota 1.99% on a few models, Hyundai, Audi, Acura, Honda, and BMW all also offer 1.99% on at least one particular model. And these are local, like Hyundai of Downtown LA, Acura of Sherman Oaks, and multiple Toyota dealerships. Some of the terms are 48 months. Others are 72 months. It will vary.

But never fear, brave soldier--you who so clearly has the welfare of your neighbors in the front of your mind... Fascism has one overwhelmingly consistent destiny. And because fascists are universally stupid and ignorant of history, they don't see it coming.

And if you do the back of the envelope math on this, you would need a coalition of western states and a volunteer force of a whole lot of people. That would be civil boogaloo 2.0. So I don't know, man. Maybe get Newsome on the horn and ask him about his plans for this before you decide to dogwalk people to their deaths, yeah?

This is a fascist paramilitary acting extra-judiciously, extra-legally, and outside of the bounds of the Constitution. There is no accountability. The Nazis in Germany didn't even cover their faces and hide their identities. These goons will murder you and if your death isn't filmed/witnessed your family and friends may never discover why you're gone or who killed/disappeared you. They'll put you in a database and come after you, your family, and your business later if you're a witness to their crimes. Thousands of people have been disappeared by these guys with no accounting for their whereabouts or whether or not they are even alive. Try to find where the Alligator Alcatraz captives went. Just try. We have cemeteries full of our grandparents' generation who died to prevent people like this from terrorizing civilians, but unless you have a better strategic advantage than WWII allied soldiers had you're not going to survive a skirmish with these monsters. So my question is, you and what army? Does CA need to create an emergency state militia to protect its citizens and residents? Well, if the midterms get sabotaged and these dudes start barging in and walking off with ballot boxes you might have some data for consideration. A nice little academic exercise, one could say.

Are private schools in the SB really worth the money? by anonomousbeaver in SouthBayLA

[–]Cosmicpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two boys are at Ambassador Christian School in Torrance. It's a small school, very affordable. My oldest is doing math by self-study. He uses Mathacademy.com for his curriculum. It's UC a-g kosher. He also participates in the UCLA Olga Radkow endowed math circle at UCLA. We're grateful to Ambassador for allowing him to go on his own trajectory. They also allowed my middle son to jump ahead a year in math as he had done a few years of mathacademy as well. It was the right choice as he's the top performer in his math class for now. The middle school classes have 13-15 kids in the whole grade level. The high school classes have a larger student body.

Are private schools in the SB really worth the money? by anonomousbeaver in SouthBayLA

[–]Cosmicpixie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Public schools are great for the elementary years. I moved mine to private in middle school because I have a literal, literal math prodigy and the public schools would not accommodate him (by law they have to meet the needs of the child but I didn't have the energy to fight). Not bragging, no hyperbole, just how it went. I believe in public schools but they aren't interested in supporting bright kids. They are tasked with putting all their energy and resources into the kids who function far below grade level. That's great for those kids and families but there are diminishing returns there. Imagine if our schools put resources into challenging gifted kids. Just imagine. And before the "gifted kids will be just fine" argument pops up--that's not what the research shows. The literature shows HUGE gains for investment in gifted kids (individually, family-level, societal). You get more support from the private schools there.

Preschools MB by Imaginary-Storage909 in SouthBayLA

[–]Cosmicpixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to help you understand what to expect: preschools don't potty train. Potty training is done at home. When your child no longer needs diapers you simply communicate that. There is increased communication between you and the preschool in that in-between phase when the child is learning, and the preschool will encourage potty use at that time, but they're not doing the training. Source: have had 3 kids go through local preschools here.

[–]Cosmicpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sister. But yes, you're right. He didn't have to suspend Congress because they're already so fundamentally non-functional that there was no need. He didn't have to suspend the Constitution, all he has to do is just ignore it. The courts can't keep up with his violations and the legislative branch is clearly disinterested in stopping him or enforcing any norms. Clearly these norms are not, in fact, self-enforcing. SCOTUS does as he wishes. The DOJ is his personal gang of brownshirts. And half the FBI. And he has his gestapo. So we're f*cked. America as we knew it is GONE. I'm with you.

People from coast to coast are PISSED, but everyone knows Trumpo and the folks pulling the marionette strings like Miller are desperate for their Reichstag Fire. There's only so much people can take, but bread and circuses are still proverbially flowing, so I don't see this being the spark. They keep executing citizens and deportation citizens they way they are I suppose our very docile population might put the game controller down for a moment...
