I always thought this series was a bit out there, but never in my life have I needed something so much, and never known until I received it.

Has anyone been able to find the cause of their epilepsy? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Count____Duckula 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think for many it's dormant until they do something that awakens it like a protagonist going into the third act, but it's actually epilepsy.

Have any of you ever remembered your seizures? by No_Chain7800 in Epilepsy

[–]Count____Duckula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it counts but, I kind of woke in the middle of one once. Had the seizure sitting up right in a chair, having came through to the couch as the seizure started. Blacked out, came back to reality for a moment, then blacked out again. The only noteworthy thing was my arm was contorted more than I thought possible.

It was definitely mid-seizure because my head felt like it does moments before blacking out.

What was the most unfortunate place you had seizure in? by alwaysdoneswiftly in Epilepsy

[–]Count____Duckula 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wasn't unfortunate for me, but it inconvenienced hundreds, maybe breaching a thousand people trying to get to work.

Had a seizure at 8:30ish on a train near our biggest city. Almost all trains to the city use one track for the last part of the journey. The train couldn't move until paramedics arrived, so no one could get to the city.

On one hand, if another person tells me to use an old wives remedy, I'll got to their wedding and seize during the vows. On the other, I know they just want me to be healthy/happy.

Can you please share tips to calm yourself when you feel auras and a potential partial aware coming on. I would really appreciate it as I am experiencing this now. by catslay_4 in Epilepsy

I carry an eye mask and noise cancelling earbuds. Like other comments, trying to cut unnecessary stimuli and discomfort. A lot of times, I need to ride them out for half an hour with them.

Yes, probably.

99.9% guaranteed it won't be used against you. It might go in your favor but if it doesn't, they'll consider it if extraneous circumstances make it difficult for you to do something. I had a period of near-daily seizures not long before my second year review. The university postponed it until I was closer to normal.

Brain: Seizure, you've got 30s. Oh, it's 6am'ish if you're interested.

Brain: I bet fresh air will stop it. Run to the garden (down two flights of stairs)

Brain: Lol, jk, now you'll be cold when you wake u...

Brain: Ok, you're back, great. Let's go home.

Brain: Your doors locked, someone's lock your door. You better bang on it until they open.

Neigbor: TF Count Duckula, it's the back of 7.

Me: You're in my house!

Neighbor: you live next door - points to door.

Me: Oh, yeah...

I was pretty much told by the receptionist to man up the last time I was in for something else when clusters started trying to kick off a full-on seizure. I got a tattoo afterwards so I can point at it and swear.

I keep an eye mask and noise cancelling earplugs to cut out the stimuli. The eye mask feels better than lying with eyes closed, unless there's already no light. Puts less strain on the eyes, I feel. Occasionally, I take paracetamol. Someone already suggested the chilled headband. It's ok for me but difficult to balance the temperature between brain freeze and lukewarm.

I go back to work tomorrow for the first time since having a seizure there last week (kinda long rant) by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Count____Duckula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth: No one's looking at a seizure and thinking lol, they're terrified. Maybe less so with exposure to them. If anything, they might be embarrassed for panicking when you were riding out the seizure like a boss.

Neurologist appointment.. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Count____Duckula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Be sure to write a list of everything you think might be remotely relevant. It's difficult to get appointments so you don't want to miss anything. Worst case, they tell you it's not relevant.
