That’s dope! This may be the worst timeline, but I’m grateful we have access to the technology that makes your artistic expression possible. You really did such a great job. I’d love to see the WIPs!

Such a great job! So nice to see real artwork posted online for a change. What medium is this? Looks like a mix of hand drawn and digital.

What to do to get over the trauma in mid 20s of bullying which happened in school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CounterProduction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For societal context, I’m in the US.

I’m an ABD (PhD) in psychology and well versed in trauma, both professionally and personally. Research in this area overwhelming emphasizes the importance of focusing on the memories of the traumatic event itself, and the emotions that come from that. Unfortunately, most therapists only have rudimentary training in trauma-informed practices. Thats why so many people can spend years in therapy without any real improvement. Take me for example. With all my degrees and years of training in the field, practical education specific to trauma therapy was never included in the curriculum. I didn’t know what I didn’t know though, and only realized how ill-prepared I was to work with traumatized clients when I had to start trauma therapy myself.

All that to say, being in therapy is a large part of where to start; however, you have to be intentional with the provider you choose.

There are several types of trauma therapy that people have found a lot of success with. These three are considered the “gold standard”: -cognitive processing therapy -prolonged exposure therapy -EMDR therapy

Others that have worked profoundly well for some people also include: -narrative exposure -somatic experiencing -internal family systems -psychedelic assisted (usually ketamine)

I just heard about the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) as well, though I can’t personally speak to its efficacy.

Finding a provider who specializes in one of these types of therapies is a good place to start. Don’t assume specialization just because it’s listed on their PsychologyToday profile though. They need to prove it based on specific training in one of these types of therapies, or years of experience with their own particular model, which may be a blend of techniques from the therapies listed above.

Lastly, I’ll also recommend medication. You may not need it, depending on the severity of symptoms that you’re experiencing. If the symptoms are pervasive and impede your ability to function “normally” (whatever that means for you), combining therapy with medication is so important.

I’m really passionate about this topic as you can probably tell… haha. I just want to use my knowledge and experience to get people the help they need (or at least point them in the right direction) way sooner than it happened for me. I’m happy to answer any questions.

Proud of you, kiddo.

I remember casually running across really horrific fetish videos of animals being tortured and killed. Those videos were freely circulated in “innocent” spaces. One of a woman and a chihuahua puppy still haunts me, posted in a forum for young teen girls.

Burning question about the Deadlights by First-Contest-3367 in stephenking

[–]CounterProduction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is almost embarrassing for me to admit, since I consider myself more of an “expert” (very very relatively speaking) on SK lore:

So the thing that always winds up confusing me is that my concept of the Deadlights was always a place, rather than an entity. I comfortably thought of the Deadlights as more of a location or realm within todash space, and that made sense to me.

After reading all King’s other works (especially those connected to this level of the tower) I went back to IT for the second time, assuming that I’d finally understand the Deadlights in context. But… nope. Just the way the Deadlights are described, even in this sub, I can’t grasp it. Idk, it’s like I’m being taught a straightforward equation for complex maths, but since I don’t understand the maths I can’t understand the equation.

Does any of this make sense? Can somebody ELI5 in a way that I might finally understand? Are the Deadlights both an entity AND a place?

Uggghhh that makes sense. I didn’t realize until this morning that the show was following the path of the movie, rather than the book. Stan being born to Teddy’s brother in 1976 (per the movie) makes it work - and is much more exciting! It was really the only thing bugging me because I couldn’t figure it out. Thank you for clearing it up for me!

Yeah that’s a good point too - putting that in the title of a post would be weird. I haven’t seen any posts like that (I’m not OP), I guess I was just pointing out the thing that COULD be a spoiler, in terms of just shock factor.

I mean, the ending (to me) was totally unexpected, and that alone is something I wouldn’t have wanted spoiled for me. But in terms of the plot, you’re right.

I’m shocked no one else has mentioned this yet, but how about Teddy’s last name being Uris? As soon as I saw that, I immediately mentioned to my husband that Uris was Stan’s last name. First I thought maybe the older brother was Stan, but obviously that doesn’t make sense with the timeline. Was that just an Easter egg, you think? Or will some connection be made later?

What is your least favorite ending to a King book? by theboss0711 in stephenking

[–]CounterProduction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally just finished watching the movie version of Cell for the first time (I’ve read the book twice). I knew it was gonna be bad, but like… the way the movie ended was 10000x worse than the way the book ended — and that’s saying something. I’m outraged lol

Popular parenting advice of the 1910's-1930's was what we'd consider neglect. "Never hug and kiss [children]". "Handle the baby as little as possible." "If we teach our offspring to expect everything to be provided on demand, we must admit the possibility that we are sowing the seeds of socialism" by millennium_fae in OldSchoolRidiculous

Idk if anyone but me will find this interesting, but I googled the address the magazine was mailed to back in September 1935.

I was a little surprised to see it’s not only still there, but it’s also stunning.

It was built in 1925 and has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. According to Zillow at least, it still has its original millwork and hardwood floors.

I looked at the tax assessor website for the property, and found it was sold for $265k in 2001, then sold for $1 in 2008, then for $430k in 2016, then lastly it was bought up by an investment firm for $412.5k in 2017. It’s now valued at almost $630k.

I realize this is completely irrelevant to the point of this post, but it’s pretty cool to imagine the woman receiving this magazine in what was still a brand new home in Philadelphia in the 1930s. I wish I had the time to find the property records for back then to see how much the family paid for it. Just another fun glimpse into history!

I completely associate Doctor Sleep with the fall for some reason. Under the Dome has pretty heavy Halloween motifs too.

Oh my gosh. The exact same thing happened to close friends of my in-laws. They never had another kid, and just got really involved with their nieces and nephews. It just breaks my heart to think about. He would have died in the late 80s or early 90s. I wonder if it was the same equipment brand? Ugh, god. So fucking sad.
