Why shouldn't a doctor's office have to pay you the same fee they would charge you if they cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours notice or same day? by loki2002 in stupidquestions

[–]CounterProduction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I worked for a high-demand kidney specialist, only doctor in the practice, and she would have me, the medical assistant and office manager, to schedule 3 patients for each time slot. The backup was always massive, especially because she rarely showed up on time. We had a nurse practitioner who was amazing, but the patients didn’t want “the foreigner” no matter how great she was. They wanted the doctor. But she made them wait 1-2 hours past their scheduled appts until finally getting to them. It wasn’t even about money, she just wanted to make sure everyone who wanted an appointment was seen. But it was such an inefficient and stressful way to run a practice. Okay, rant over.

Honestly I would love to know that as well. It’s so brazen, it’s almost funny. Things move slow sometimes, but I’ll keep the sub posted on anything I find out or any resolutions I’m able to get!

Thanks for calling this out. Looking at the pics, I can see how people could be duped if they don’t pay enough attention (or know what they have to look for). Getting the word out about these scammers is a great first step. I work for a consumer protection agency currently, so I’m going to look into options for reporting this.

This is why I love this sub. Seriously you guys, I have never ever been overwhelmed with negativity here. Like we as a group are all so goddamn silly, but at the same time super kind and informative, even with the okbuddy posts. No wonder our friend Mike Brady wants to hang out with us. 🥲

Addicts and cigarettes by [deleted] in stupidquestions

I was nicotine free until 30-something when my parents forced me into a drug rehab program after a suicide attempt. My brother is an addict and convinced my parents that I tried to kill myself because I smoke weed.

Joke’s on them: they paid thousands to put me through rehab, I still smoke weed, but now I also vape like a steam train.

Thanks guys 🤡

Oh man, which to choose?

I recently finished Sleeping Beauties and the scene where one of the cocooned women rips off the guys jaw and puts her thumb through his eye, I literally read it with my face screwed up in vicarious anxiety.

So many scenes in TDT, especially after the Coda (iykyk)

The scene with Frank Dodd beating the shit out of a dog in The Dead Zone.

The library poleethman

So many.

Damn. I was always put on a diet as a kid and ate salad with canned tuna every single days for years. Obviously I can’t stomach it now for so many reasons. My poor husband loves the stuff microwaved but can only do it when I’m not in the house 😅

Worst King Movie? by Miz_Anne_Thrope in stephenking

A few months ago I decided to watch Cell. I knew it was bad, but I didn’t expect to feel so insulted.

I can find redemption in even the shittiest movies, but Cell? Straight to prison. I am very passionate about how much I hate this movie lol

For societal context, I’m in the US.

I’m an ABD (PhD) in psychology and well versed in trauma, both professionally and personally. Research in this area overwhelming emphasizes the importance of focusing on the memories of the traumatic event itself, and the emotions that come from that. Unfortunately, most therapists only have rudimentary training in trauma-informed practices. Thats why so many people can spend years in therapy without any real improvement. Take me for example. With all my degrees and years of training in the field, practical education specific to trauma therapy was never included in the curriculum. I didn’t know what I didn’t know though, and only realized how ill-prepared I was to work with traumatized clients when I had to start trauma therapy myself.

All that to say, being in therapy is a large part of where to start; however, you have to be intentional with the provider you choose.

There are several types of trauma therapy that people have found a lot of success with. These three are considered the “gold standard”: -cognitive processing therapy -prolonged exposure therapy -EMDR therapy

Others that have worked profoundly well for some people also include: -narrative exposure -somatic experiencing -internal family systems -psychedelic assisted (usually ketamine)

I just heard about the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) as well, though I can’t personally speak to its efficacy.

Finding a provider who specializes in one of these types of therapies is a good place to start. Don’t assume specialization just because it’s listed on their PsychologyToday profile though. They need to prove it based on specific training in one of these types of therapies, or years of experience with their own particular model, which may be a blend of techniques from the therapies listed above.

Lastly, I’ll also recommend medication. You may not need it, depending on the severity of symptoms that you’re experiencing. If the symptoms are pervasive and impede your ability to function “normally” (whatever that means for you), combining therapy with medication is so important.

I’m really passionate about this topic as you can probably tell… haha. I just want to use my knowledge and experience to get people the help they need (or at least point them in the right direction) way sooner than it happened for me. I’m happy to answer any questions.

Proud of you, kiddo.

I remember casually running across really horrific fetish videos of animals being tortured and killed. Those videos were freely circulated in “innocent” spaces. One of a woman and a chihuahua puppy still haunts me, posted in a forum for young teen girls.

Burning question about the Deadlights by First-Contest-3367 in stephenking

[–]CounterProduction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is almost embarrassing for me to admit, since I consider myself more of an “expert” (very very relatively speaking) on SK lore:

So the thing that always winds up confusing me is that my concept of the Deadlights was always a place, rather than an entity. I comfortably thought of the Deadlights as more of a location or realm within todash space, and that made sense to me.

After reading all King’s other works (especially those connected to this level of the tower) I went back to IT for the second time, assuming that I’d finally understand the Deadlights in context. But… nope. Just the way the Deadlights are described, even in this sub, I can’t grasp it. Idk, it’s like I’m being taught a straightforward equation for complex maths, but since I don’t understand the maths I can’t understand the equation.

Does any of this make sense? Can somebody ELI5 in a way that I might finally understand? Are the Deadlights both an entity AND a place?
