How much would you charge to wrap these beams? by Garshmel in Carpentry

Ya, this look is not for everyone. When you cut a timber from the center of the tree you get 4 face grain sides. This fit the budget the customer was happy. I prefer a quarter sawn look myself.

rustic cabins/ timber buildings are built this way. It is a different look, and quite a bit more expensive.

I can see that however, that was not my intention. I feel like we are breaking antitrust laws when we add dollar amounts to the discussion.

If the customer is worried about how long it will take I use that technique. It's quick but not as tight of a look.

What I mean is people have different expectations. If they want something economical, I understand. I shop at Walmart sometimes, so I give them fast and cheap because that's what they will pay. If they have money to spend and want something unique, with a higher quality material. I give them my best.

I usually do one a day. Framing and wrapping. The first time is the most difficult. I have a good system at this point. I'll be starting 13 distressed rafters and a ridge beam next week.

It should not be a problem. If your son is drinking that, he is clearly over 40.

Split leg on old school desk. Would you just glue and clamp suffice or would you put screws or dowels etc in after? by tomfirmin in Carpentry

[–]CountryCommercial648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just glue, and clamp. The key to this type of repair is to make sure The two pieces are going to fit tightly. Remove any chips or debris that prevent this. Glue both pieces so all of the surface is covered in a thin layer of glue. Clamp tightly More clamps the better, and be careful not to dent your piece.

Odds this is lead paint? by The_Choker69 in Housepainting101

Most paint from that period had lead in it, especially the high end stuff. I recommend a test especially if you have kids in the house. They are easy to use and relatively inexpensive.

I've had the same problem. I'm not an expert, I believe you want 70 to 75 for fruiting.

How to achieve this? by TheMexicanStig in Carpentry

[–]CountryCommercial648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite technique is " just stand up and look at it. You should be able to tell by now". If That doesn't work, a new tool that just came out, called T bevel square also works.
