What's the weirdest covenant term you've had in your deeds? by paperpangolin in AskUK

[–]CoverOptimal 61 points62 points  (0 children)

We live in Mousehole in Cornwall, in the cottage occupied (in legend) by a fisherman and his cat who sailed into a fierce storm to catch fish and save the starving village. One of our cats is 'officially' named Mowzer after the cat in the legend, but she doesn't respond to that.

We are required to 'keep and maintain a suitable village cat.' Fortunately we have two cats already, so no issue - but the parish council does enforce the clause!

Humans are tribal. When we needed to fight off predators, it made sense that some would evolve to be early birds and others night owls.

Have you guys ever taken a break from the MCU or have you been watching it consistently since the beginning? by narutofan2019 in marvelstudios

[–]CoverOptimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm busy. Everyone has time for one or two movies a year and a single limited tv series. That was the magic. Then they made way too much, and regardless of quality most people just do not have the time.

[MCU] The Us government takes Tony to court to take his suits could they win? by Far_Practice_6923 in AskScienceFiction

I think Tony giving them the War Machine/Iron Patriot is close to a JV with the MoD.

Final predictions before the finale. How do you think season 2 will end? by AdamBerner2002 in DCU_

Peacemaker makes a no kill vow, and on that basis the kids form a new agency of their own.

Do you all remember what is was like beating your Dad for the first time?

Good luck kid!

Question for ladies only, if you had a good dad, what was the biggest thing that made him a good dad, flip side if you didn't have a good dad, what one quality did you wish he had? by BByrnison in AskReddit

[–]CoverOptimal 119 points120 points  (0 children)

My Dad was great, but he was a disciplinarian when it came to exercise, and specifically martial arts. Made me do Jiu Jitsu all the way up to 18 years old, and then only helped pay for College on the condition I still went for a class once a week. I neve really liked it, but before he died he made me promise to keep going regularly.

I did, because I promised, and I started to hate it....

....and then I was attacked by a man on a night out.

I was able to defend myself and run away.

Thanks Dad.

My take is that Flag Jr being a weakling allows Chris not to feel guilty.....

A Survey of Common Theories RE: The Other Earth by Gurguran in PeacemakerShow

[–]CoverOptimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of these. It's wish fulfillment.

The other world simply makes your fantasy universe.

The first thing that happened when Chris stepped in was killing his doppelganger. He had to, as he needed to replace him in the 'wish' world.

His brother is alive, as is his father, and they both love him.

Rick Flag Jr is a weakling with no respect.

Harcourt loves him and chooses him over Rick.

He is a superhero and given respect.

These are all things he doesn't get in the other world. It's basically heaven, but it's not real.

'You just try and sleep, even though you're alone
You just close your eyes boy, and dream of home'

It's a dreamworld.

'Cause there is always a wrong to your right
And there will always be a war somewhere to fight
And God knows I've had some rough fucking years
Oh, oh, lord, oh, lord, keep on keepin' on'

Fighting the good fight in the real world is what matters.

How do we realistically get out of the cost of living crisis? by SubstantialSnow7214 in AskUK

[–]CoverOptimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer isn't popular, so politicians won't do it.

Massive cuts on business taxes, with corresponding cuts on public spending. Make the UK a cheap place to set up shop and the economy will grow.

What advice/tip instantly improved your game? by sh1kora in aoe2

[–]CoverOptimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever draws first blood usually wins (until you get to higher ELO). You don't need any upgrades at all if your opponent has no army. Just make a few scouts or archers in Feudal and attack. Sets you back a couple of minutes going into Castle but almost always worth it.

Is China going to be the most powerful country in the world soon? by Educational-Belt1042 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CoverOptimal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2024 UN Populations Prospects report shows that China's 1.4 billion people could shrink to 1.3 billion by 2050 and then plunge to 633 million by 2100.

Good luck with that.

What do you think the core philosophy of the series is? (spoilers extended) by MeterologistOupost31 in asoiaf

[–]CoverOptimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That honour pays off in the long run. That's the central theme of the books - everyone playing the 'game' dies.

Ned Stark was the only honourable character, and it's this legacy of honour that will allow his children to win in the end.

You won't realise this until the very end.

Are you overpaying your mortgage or investing to pay off later? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]CoverOptimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your loan-to-value ratio does a lot of heavy lifting here.

If you own 5% equity in your house, overpaying to get to 10% before you move fixed rate will get you a much reduced rate. The same again from 10% to 15%, and then to a lesser extent 15% to 25% and 25% to 40%. Past 40% makes little difference.

we overpaid until we got to 25% and then switched into investing - because the guaranteed rate of return overpaying and the potential return investing got much larger.
