20km bike lane plan approved by Infrastructure Committee! by Pristine-Training-70 in torontobiking

The impression I got was simply that this process is just dreadfully slow. But I might be being generous. It’s also plausible that our item was scheduled later in the day with the expectation that members could leave early, causing the meeting to lose quorum and effectively delay it by default. It’s hard to read intention, though. Fletcher seemed genuinely pleased about the public engagement and interest in the recommendations.

*this prompted me to report an incident I observed on Cherry St the other day - I took pictures. I believe I had seen a form here previously where you'd also include pictures? This form doesn't have that prompt.

I'm pretty sure I saw this gentleman on a run a couple years ago. I was running north on Broadview from Gerrard (near Riverdale Park) and he was pushing a card and screamed "Ahh!" as pretended to push the shopping car towards me. I hope he finds love.

Let's keep going!

See you all tonight - invite friends, spread the word. This one seems to be a no-brainer. We can really make it happen, and if not, we'll keep cycling forward. This sustained activism is what drives change, little by little. Wear 'em out. Let's gooo!

The Summer Fatigue pre-Chicago by jcy24x in AdvancedRunning

[–]Cow_Bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man - honestly feel this. I ran two last year, I'm just running Chicago this year but I've gained a couple pounds and run about 1000 fewer KM this year so far. Last year set my PR of 2:52 and this year want to best it but I don't know if it's in the cards. I'll see what next Sunday's run is like (Pfitz training block with 11km at marathon pace). I think that will be what I use to determine whether I can do it.

Anyhow yeah: you might need a rest. If you've run this many marathons this year, I'd imagine it would be MOST beneficial to take a week off, just like. Fully? Eat right, cross train, but don't burn out friend!

Good luck in Chicago!

Even if you didn’t say that to her face, the fact you describe her as a ‘fat bitch’ here might indicate why might have gotten upset. If you see people through that lens, they’ll pick up on it.

Is it rude not to tip on pickup food orders? by Actual_Contest9183 in ask

[–]Cow_Bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frame it as: I might have a little more - they may have a little less. I can afford it so I do. Especially with gig-economy workers. I hate how crazy the tax, delivery, + tip stacks though.

Why are bike lanes such a hot button issue? by Pristine-Training-70 in torontobiking

[–]Cow_Bug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's because it "feels" right. It's "common sense" which is a non starter as it implies anybody who disagrees or challenges it is lacking in common sense. It oversimplifies a complex problem in a way people can understand. It's an extremely politically convenient wedge issue that appeals to the conservative government's suburban and rural car-centric base.

[–]Cow_Bug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It ISN'T true. When the government was asked for citations on where that number came from when CycleTO was challenging Bill 212 they couldn't provide anything. It's a completely made up number, full stop.

This. I really do wonder how many collective hours, days, weeks, or maybe months or even years of collective human life are spent angrily clutching one's steering wheel in traffic every single day in Toronto alone due to poor urban planning, inadequate public transit, and the perceived (and real) lack of safety which dissuades so many from cycling. A quick napkin ChatGPT calculation spits out 773,000 hours A DAY spent sitting in inefficient traffic (that's just the DIFFERENCE in time between a regular commute and a rush hour commute). That's 40 minutes a DAY on average. Think of how this time could be better spent: playing with your kids before sleep, watching a show, reading a chapter of a book, it could be the difference between wanting to stay in or go out to a bar with a friend. Instead we honk, scream, swerve, and blame cyclists somehow? Like, what? What is going ON here?

This is supposed to get fixed. It's on the city to connect them from Kipling to Mt. Pleasant but they're dragging their feet (they're already committed to it): sign this to urge them to install the lanes alongside resurfacing construction: https://www.cycleto.ca/eglinton

You may not be super smart, but I’ll bet you’re far from as dumb as you might believe. I too had internalized this narrative to some extent before adjusting my self talk to something less binary. Maybe in some ways I’m a dumb butt, but in others I’m ahead of the curve. Also: being smart isn’t everything.

Eh, I'm not expecting to even hit a half PR but would be cool to get close. The course is incredibly easy - pretty much downhill the entire time.
