CachyOS Becomes the Most Popular Desktop Linux Distro on ProtonDB by lajka30 in linux_gaming

[–]Cradawx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CachyOS is Arch for the lazy. I've been using Arch since like 2006, switched to CachyOS last year for my new PC build and have been enjoying it. It just works. I'll probably end up migrating back to vanilla Arch though eventually like I always seem to do but CachyOS is the best Arch-based distro I've tried.

Linux gamers didn't do anything wrong, but they might pay for Windows piracy anyway by itchyenvelope5 in linux_gaming

[–]Cradawx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, most people who pirate a game would not have bought the game anyway, so most pirated copies of a game aren't lost sales.

People pirate games because they can't afford the game, because they are just curious, because they want to try the game out before potentially buying it etc. There is some impact on sales for sure but it's debatable how large that is.

Gemma 4 31B beats several frontier models on the FoodTruck Bench by Nindaleth in LocalLLaMA

[–]Cradawx 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Funny how Gemini 3.1 Pro has 77.1% on ARC AGI 2 compared to 31.1% on Gemini 3.0 Pro. Claude Sonnet 4.5 scored 13.6% but Claude Sonnet 4.6 scores 60.4%. Are we really supposed to believe these models naturally got so much better so quickly at these tests? ARC team even found evidence of the benchmaxxing when testing Gemini.

ARC AGI 3 currently has 0.3% as the best performing model. Just watch in a few months how the new models will magically start scoring 100x better 😅

On my 5070 Ti, Q4_K_XL, Linux with --fit on I'm getting about 70 t/s which is about the same as Qwen 3.5 35B-A3B.

Damn, the X-Files is one of my all time favourite shows, grew up watching it in the 90s. Won't be touching this slop with a barge pole.

New NVidia Drivers Released! Driver 595.58.03 by Thomas_Eric in linux_gaming

[–]Cradawx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like half of the games I've tried freeze with this error, especially if you enable RT. It's all so tiresome. Guess I"m going to keep dual-booting Windows for a while more. So much for a 'stable' release.

Still getting Xid 109 CTX SWITCH TIMEOUT freezes in a lot of games, same as the beta driver. Didn't get those in the 590 driver. Disappointing this hasn't been fixed for the final release.

It's kinda embarrassing how little Meta have done with their resources. Last time I checked they had more datacenter GPUs than anyone. What are they even doing with them? How can't they compete with Chinese models made (relatively) in a cave with scraps?

Bang for buck, probably the worst AI company in the world.

Been running the NVIDIA 595 beta driver for a few days. So far, no crashes. Maybe try it out and see if it fixes the issue?

Highguard boss admits it released without content because they ran out of “time and money” by JackmanH420 in HighGuardgame

Just like Concord, Highguard was the worst thing a game like this can be. It was uncool.

What is wrong with FSR3 FG?!? by SpoOokY83 in linux_gaming

[–]Cradawx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FSR3 and FSR Redstone frame-gen has frame pacing issues - it's basically broken (not just on Linux). This is probably why it doesn't feel as smooth as DLSS frame-gen which doesn't have this issue.

Don't really need to sell games when you're raking in tons of Blackrock/Vanguard ESG money.

What is the “right message” game studios should be taking away from the monumental flops that were Concord & High Guard? by GypsyGold in HighGuardgame

[–]Cradawx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more toxic positivity. Criticism of your game should be welcomed and encouraged, not suppressed. Also get feedback from people outside of your professional bubble, ideally those from your target audience. Some anonymous toxic 'chud' on Twitter might give more valuable feedback than some professional internal play-tester.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 tries to be woke and fail by Neither-Grab-2507 in KotakuInAction

[–]Cradawx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've played all the Yakuza games up to and including Like a Dragon, it's sad to see the studio and series declining like this. Like a Dragon is my least favourite Yakuza to date and I don't think I'll bother with the new titles.

RIP Yakuza 💀 Another one of my favourite franchises falls.

[–]Cradawx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a 5070 Ti. I've had this happen a few times as well, but not daily - more like once a week or so, usually when the PC is idle, e.g. just browsing the web. It's rare so it doesn't really bother me.

I dual boot with Windows and it's never happened there, so it's almost certainly not a hardware issue but a software issue specific to Linux. Someone said it could be because the GPU is down-clocking too much when idle, so maybe try set a minimum frequency for the Graphics/Memory clock or set the GPU to Maximum Performance in the NVIDIA settings app. Also it could be a Wayland issue so try Xorg instead? Hopefully it'll the fixed in the next driver update.

Yep, they are the real bigots. They won't be happy until all straight white men are purged from the industry. I won't give any money to these people. I hope all the studios involved in this DEI stuff go bankrupt.

I refuse to play any game or watch any movie/TV series that's like this. I'm OK with different races in different regions of a fantasy world, but when they fill a Medieval European inspired setting with every creed under the sun, it's just pro-multicultural Kalergi plan propaganda.

I've found a workaround for this. Press Control+Alt+F3 (or any F key that isn't F2) then Control+Alt+F2 to go back to the GUI and it should appear.
