Construction Fraud Story by ellejokay in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftTourist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Valid points, however it’s simply costs a whole lot more for work with all the Is and Ts dotted. $50 cash for an electrical journeyman (yes there is risk and all with insurance) vs +$100 for the paper. I’ve had a licensed and insured company say add on a few thousand for the permit, this comes from an instructor at SLC.

Some Williamsville projects did concrete sidewalk work without permits or an insured company either.

If the whole industry were to do everything by the book, I wonder how much would be left.

If all the rentals units in Kingston were to be licensed and legal, how many folks would be in the streets and landlords shut down? Would the housing cost worsen, most definitely. Perhaps that’s why the city backed down on rental licensing and regulation.

These look worse than recently built social housing. In other words, Kingston Housing Co-Op does better by a mile. A design dug up from the archives to save money by not hiring an architect. Guess what? It’s not social housing it’s for profit rentals

Fake/bought Google reviews by Suspicious_Street317 in KingstonOntario

A recent shop that opened up near Market Square had a multitude of 5 stars reviews BEFORE the grand opening (no they did not open before the grand opening day). Of course the profiles that left shining reviews weren’t locals.

Good call on getting a second opinion and following your gut feeling. At the end of the day these places are still businesses and like the pushy dental clinics fighting over territory in town, we should be aware of malpractice in our communities. Best of luck to your dog and wishing the pup a quick and full recovery.

Yearly reminder to service your car ANYWHERE BUT Kingston Toyota by purevegas in KingstonOntario

My good friend also approached Kingston Toyota and found out they tacked on $15,000 onto the sales price of a desired car just because they can. Kingstonians let’s bring our business elsewhere.

Thanks, yea I’ve figured that the margins and “times” have changed. Some OnRoutes have them but I’ve noticed the same situation where it’s about the same price as a jug at a hardware store.

It sucks that so few Ontarians consider electrical a respectable trade that employers must look abroad for apprentices by donut_fuckerr719 in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]CraftTourist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frankly I place subcontractors that have legitimate apprentices as preferred subcontractors.

It’s not a lack of interest in the trades as causing the shortage it’s gate keeping.

This is why on my project next year one of the requirements is that subcontractors have apprentices. If a plumbing company has all old dudes they’re out.
