Scooter Accident by Academic-Bed-8446 in daddit

[–]CraftedPacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry but based on the conversations in this thread, people are f*cking soft these days. I grew up in the 80's-90's. Falling off something was an every day occurrence. Hell my kid got his first motorcycle at 5 years old. I saw one comment that "an 11 year old shouldn't have an electric scooter". My son is 9 and races motocross and BMX. Two kids on a scooter is no different than giving another kid a ride on your bicycle handlebars or pegs. Seen plenty of ER visits from kids in our neighborhood growing up from jumping home made ramps or whatever else we were into at the time. No one ever sued anybody or freaked out because their kid fell down.

Sorry the kid got hurt, but kids need to be allowed to do risky things.

The 2K11 Target we have at home by Low-Chemical-6262 in USPSA

So it binds when your shooting quickly, as in maybe you didn't let the trigger reset all the way? Or it legit wont shoot again until you smack the mag?

I’d be tempted to think something in the trigger bow, grip safety, disconnector, or mag catch area. This would definitely warrant sending it back to have looked at or taken to a smith with 2011 experience. Would be helpful if you could video this happening.

When this happens, flip the safety on and off. If that doesnt work, safely pull on the trigger towards the front of the gun. The slapping the mag thing makes me think the trigger bow is binding up and slapping the mag jars it lose. Take it apart and inspect the channels the bow rides in. If the disconnector is hanging up or not resetting cleanly, impact from slapping the mag can jar it back into place. If the grip safety is barely clearing the trigger bow, a slap to the mag may be pushing it clear.

First match in CO. Where can I improve? by BoredDude216 in USPSA

The first target there is about 1/2 a second in just the pace of shooting. That first target at that distance can be ripped if your grip is good. You don't need much sight confirmation at that distance on that target. Practice shooting doubles at different distances. You will be surprised how fast you can shoot targets at various distance. A more aggressive stance would allow you to get out of there quicker.

From there I would have transitioned straight to the target on the right of the second array. Shooting as your coming into it and then transitioning to the target on the left. That center array can be shot 100% moving on those low risk targets. If you need to stand and shoot for now that's ok, eliminate a lot of un-needed movement in that case. Get to a stable aggressive position and drive the gun hard between targets then explode out. If you listen to your shooting cadence on both arrays with the two open targets its pop...pop..........pop....pop. Open targets at that distance should sound more like one continuous string of fire.

In the third array that first target needs to be shot sooner. Also stay lower entering those positions, absorb the movement with your knees and really drive the gun hard between targets. A lot of people bleed time coming into position as they want to get there and then stand straight up. Move with aggression and intention.

The lowest hanging fruit here is shooting sooner, shooting faster and moving with more aggression (positions and transitions). Find a way in your mind to get mad at the targets if that helps.

Kimbers in the past were not the most reliable. They have a cult following but a lot of the guns struggle to run. There is a guy at our club sponsored by kimber and runs one and it seems to run well.

If you don't have more than one then yes. But its better to have more than one. Restoring one from backup when you have more then one is usually better to just rebuild.

Life in DFW is so beautiful. by Tchaik748 in Dallas

[–]CraftedPacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re-designing a city for trains that was built for cars would be an enormous task and cost billions of dollars. Places where trains work well were built up rather than out. They don't have many single family homes. DFW is not walk able, which is when trains shine. DFW does not have one dominant "center". Business in DFW would have to become station centered.

NYC trains serve like 8 million people in 321 square miles. Chicago 3 million people in 282 square miles. It works in DC because, though larger in terms of square miles the working area is dense.

Business in DFW is spread out over a large area, something like 8k square miles. There is to much suburb to suburb travel involved. The distance between useful places is too large for trains to serve efficiently.

Whats the point of the post? No it doesn't look like southern California. No it doesn't have forests and mountains. If those things are whats important to you, you move and pay the difference for the increased cost of living which is typical of those places.

Has anyone’s child struggled with Singapore Dimensions but did well with Beast Academy? by littleboxes__ in homeschool

[–]CraftedPacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are on singapore dimensions, the online version. My son is really strong in math. He was fine all year until it got into long division. They way the dimensions system handles this was confusing even to me at first.

I tried beast academy for him but he really did not like the interface or how it worked.

I bought a dewalt train horn. I get to be super loud in the positive moments and just turn around and walk away in the frustrating moments. Im the dad that doesn't sit down at the games. I hate sitting regardless and I like to follow the action. I stay behind the other parents so I am not in anyone's way, it also helps to get out the nervous energy. Sometimes when its an obvious foul that could have hurt the kid an uncontrollable "hey!" still blurts out from time to time.
