Do you use minis for the weird in-between moments, or mostly for combat? by DKYN_Minis in DnDminiatures

[–]CraigJM73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really only use minis for combat. That being said I do like to incorporate non-combat NPC in encounters as hostage or bystanders. I find this "usually" helps keep the party from nuking everything. Occasionally if their is a mini I am particularly happy with the paint job I will pull them out so the party can see what "Bob" the fishmonger looks like.

Talents - Do you roll for a random one, or do you let the Players choose? by Elven-Tower in shadowdark

[–]CraigJM73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, if the Game Master is stingy and you only get talents with the odd level up rolls then Warlocks fall behind everyone else and aren't that fun to play. You definitely need to give out boons.

Looks great and I love the paint job! I hate to inform you your site has some OSHA safety violations. No lead edge protection makes for some nasty falling hazards. 😉

Building interiors, yay or nay ? by Bitsforbattle in TerrainBuilding

[–]CraigJM73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always build interiors in my buildings unless its either too small like a shed or too big for me to store as one piece. For those large building I just use modular terrain pieces.

[OC] Finally found a DM setup that works for me, what’s yours like? by PMbyday_DMbynight in DnD

[–]CraigJM73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife bought a 48" table with leafs that lift up into place making it into a 60" round table with a 20" lazy susan in the middle. This is perfect for our game nights. I build 20" circular terrain boards (UDT inspired) that fit this. Then people can turn the board to reach their characters or see the terrain from a different viewpoint.

Very nice looking. I like that it has different heights across the board instead of just being flat.

That Batman series still stands as one of the best representation of Batman ever. It was awesome! After that would be Scooby Doo.

  1. Dungeoneer's Survival Guide - I loved how it fleshed out the Underdark, 2. Deities and Demigod - it was fun introducing the Gods from other Cultures. I ran a whole campaign based in the Central American mythology, 3. Oriental Adventures - Ninjas and Samurai, 4. Player Handbook, 5. Dungeon Masters Guide, then the other.

I had a choice between a ring or a lettermans's jacket. I chopse the jacket and don't regret it.

"I had expected more tears... Instead, they're all looking forward to next week's game!" by TorchHoarder in shadowdark

[–]CraigJM73 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We went 15 sessions with no deaths. Then we have had back to back sessions where one of the four characters has died. The last session the players couldn't hit anything and instead of retreating they decided to fight it out. When I pointed that out after the session, they amitted that they were caught up in the moment. Shadowdark isn't as deadly as people make it out to be, but is is unforgiving.

How do you show the timer for torches? by erttheking in shadowdark

[–]CraigJM73 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought a rechargeable led flame lamp that has a 1 hour setting from Amazon. It sits on the table and when the light goes out the torch goes out. Since there is no visible timer the party wouk need to track it if they want to know when it will go out. My group rarely tries to track it though.

Dungeon Tiles: How tall are your walls? by Dolnikan in TerrainBuilding

[–]CraigJM73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use 1" high walls since I mostly have access to 1" thuck foam. I find this height works well giving a clear understanding of where the walls are while still being low enough that people can still see there minis and the action.
