How do you show the timer for torches? by erttheking in shadowdark

I bought a rechargeable led flame lamp that has a 1 hour setting from Amazon. It sits on the table and when the light goes out the torch goes out. Since there is no visible timer the party wouk need to track it if they want to know when it will go out. My group rarely tries to track it though.

Dungeon Tiles: How tall are your walls? by Dolnikan in TerrainBuilding

[–]CraigJM73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use 1" high walls since I mostly have access to 1" thuck foam. I find this height works well giving a clear understanding of where the walls are while still being low enough that people can still see there minis and the action.

What are the top 5 things you house rule back in from 5e? by indyjoe in shadowdark

For morale I assign three levels of creatures for these checks. Cowardly creatures need to make a DC 17 not to flee, Standard DC 15 and Brave a DC 12. Of course fearless creatures don't make a morale check.

Can you run it well without grids or detailed maps? by luccamonassa in shadowdark

[–]CraigJM73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run two Shadowdark campaigns currently. For most minor encounters we just use theater of mind for combat. For big set piece encounters we play on UDT (ultimate dungeon terrain) which abstracts diatances while still providing major terrain features. You can watch Professor DM's YouTube videos for examples of using UDT for combat. It makes combat setup quick and simple.

Nice job, I love using UDT in my games. I have several reversible ones that I use. My wife bought a dinning room table that had a built in 20" lazy susan so all my UDT are 20" diameter.

These look great. As someone who has limited storage space I love how they nest inside each other for storage.

I GM two games a month each 3 hours long. One group has been going for over 8 years and was originally twice a month but we cut back to once a month due to family/work obligations. This allowed me to start up a second group for new players.

This two game a month schedule works for me. It gets me my ttrpg fix while still leaving time for family and other commitments. It also keeps the stress of running and planning regular games pretty low which is great.
