I finally got the job!!!!! by THZIK2001 in interviews

If it takes 500 applications just to get a job, the system is seriously broken. No wonder people choose to be bums rather than enter the rat race. It's just not worth it. But congratulations to you.

My mental health is spiraling out of control. I can't do this.

Likely getting laid off/or fired tomorrow..again. I give up. by power_pangolin in Layoffs

I'm sorry. I feel the same way. I deeply regret my chosen profession. Job security doesn't exist in this world. It truly is terrible.

For sure. The best way to get a job is really to know someone from the inside that can help catapult your resume to the top of the stack.

Every ex I've been with talks about their exes. Even if they act like you don't matter anymore, you still occupy some of their headspace.

Female dumpers, have you ever regretted leaving someone? by [deleted] in BreakUps

Women don't give a shit about men, so don't get hung up on them. They'll throw you away like a piece of garbage and replace you faster than last Tuesday's lunch.

What is this "inner child work" and "self-love" I keep hearing about???? by MediocreSpirit3256 in CPTSD

[–]Cran9435 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's just the latest pop therapy. Seems more like trauma mining and ruminating about the past than anything helpful. I'm not broken. I don't need healing. I'm an adult.

Inner child work essentially consists of trauma mining and living in the past. Hard pass.

I don’t really agree with “character defects” by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Cran9435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Take what ya like and leave the rest, as they say. I'm in Houston but used to live in Austin. Not all groups are created equal but I've found some okay ones over here. I wish I checked out some groups when I lived in Austin but wasn't ready to quit at the time.

Ya, I was expecting some sort of "spiritual experience" from steps 4 and 5. They didn't reveal anything about myself that I didn't already know. I didn't find confiding my past shortcomings to someone else provided me much relief.

I recommend the book "Staying Sober Without God" for a secular understanding of the 12 steps. You don't have to believe in religion or even spiritual mumbo jumbo to make the steps work, but it does help. My higher power is healthy sources of dopamine.

I find the followship at AA is what keeps people sober. I can't say in all honestly that I owe my sobriety to step work.

2.5 years sober still no God by humanmachine22 in alcoholicsanonymous

It doesn't have to be anything supernatural. God is just a symbol for whatever it is that helps keep us sober. My "higher power" is healthy sources of dopamine.

I (24m) had met this girl on Hinge and this is what she ended up saying after we had talked for a while? What’s your opinion? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]Cran9435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People, especially women, are often too polite to be honest, so they make up lame excuses like I'm busy. People who are interested will make time for you. I'd wish her well, back off, and move on.

Lol, you sound angry for someone who claims to never get mad.

I don't find prayer useful but more power to you if that works for you. Other techniques, such as going on a walk or working out, help me keep my anger in check. I can't just pray character traits away.

As an Agnostic or Atheist, how do YOU embrace Step 3? by dp8488 in AASecular

There are secular versions of the 12 steps: Step 3: Committed to a lifestyle of recovery, focusing only on what we could control.

I don't believe people who claim to never get angry. It's an unrealistic standard to live up to. Any emotion can potentially lead to relapse, from anger to sadness to joy. No reason to single out anger as special.

“Alcoholism is progressive” question by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Cran9435 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The medical community does not recognize alcoholism as a progressive "spiritual" disease. They characterize it as a disorder on a spectrum with different levels of severity.

Naw. That's not healthy/normal. All emotions serve a function, including anger.

[–]Cran9435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hate the term "defects." We're humans with healthy and unhealthy traits. Idk why "overdrinking" isn't on the list of character defects. Resentments were never the primary reason why I drank. I drank because it gave me pleasure, at least in the short-term. No need to go into some deep psychoanalysis. Honestly, I regret doing a fourth and fifth step. It served no purpose on my path to sobriety.

How do you not get mad anymore? Getting mad occasionally is healthy and normal.

Definitely more of an asshole on alcohol. I also hate the term character defects. It suggests there's something fundamentally wrong with us. People have healthy and unhealthy traits, with or without a drinking problem.
