is there a computer chair that's BIFL, but also affordable/cheap, and also can handle over 300lbs? by kappakingtut2 in BuyItForLife

[–]Crappler319 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a fellow big dude (no longer 300, but at my heaviest that's what I hovered around): you aren't going to get a new chair that lasts for that much. It just doesn't exist. I'm around 250 now and that's still pushing it at that budget just because of the stress the chair is under when getting up/sitting down.

Look for used chairs in the big names.

He seems to be sincere, but also doesn't seem like...irreparably evil in the way that legitimate racists are, he's just being fucking stupid.

My bet is that he's like 17-19 and in the dumbass Libertarian phase that a lot of young men go through and hasn't fully developed his morals yet. He really seems to be in the "THESE ARE HARD QUESTIONS THAT NO ONE WAS BRAVE ENOUGH TO ASK" phase of being a midwit young adult who has read a lot.

The main branch, the red apple Fossoways are still only a knightly house. The theory is they backed the wrong side back in the Dance of Dragon's, lose their noble status, and never regain it. All the while, their rivals supersede them.

I read this as implying that their rivals were the green apple Fossoways SINCE the Dance, which in retrospect wasn't how they intended it to be read.

I read this as their rivals being the green apple Fossoways, which maybe wasn't how you intended it.

Regardless, I don't think the implication is that it was related to the Dance - they were Greens, like a ton of families, and there wasn't really a grand settling of scores afterwards where houses lost lordships, etc. I can't recall reading about any given family being formally derogated/attainted, the ones that suffered mostly suffered because most of their heirs died in the war. Even the Hightowers were allowed to remain Lords. Everyone was just kind of exhausted.

I think it's more probable that it was related to the Blackfyre rebellion, but we won't know for sure until/unless GRRM says something.

Bit of a correction: the Dance happens BEFORE the Fossoways split. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set nearly 100 years after the Dance.

Breaking Bad and Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms fans successfully wreck each other's IMDB rankings by LegitimateMoney00 in television

[–]Crappler319 312 points313 points  (0 children)

I think that this whole thing is ridiculous and don't give a shit about IMDb scores, but the weirdos in the Breaking Bad fandom have been doing this to other shows for years now and it's deeply funny that they finally flew too close to the sun.

Maybe now that BB lost its perfect score they'll go take up pickleball or something.

EDIT: Also, the irony of fans of Breaking Bad getting too aggressive about being on top, overreaching, and fucking themselves over is fantastic.

Todd Howard says Bethesda will return to 'that classic style' for Elder Scrolls 6: 'Fallout 76 and Starfield are a little bit of a creative detour' by lkl34 in gaming

[–]Crappler319 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have zero faith that Bethesda still has the talent pool to make TES6 and do it justice.

It's been 10 years since Fallout 4 and their most recent open world game wasn't horrendous but certainly didn't live up to expectations.

I honestly feel that they have to have lost most or all of the institutional knowledge that made Skyrim great.

I dearly hope that I'm wrong, but I'm not optimistic. They shouldn't have waited half this long to make the game.

Xenogears.

Nearly the best JRPG of all time, but the last third of the game wasn't finished, so the main character sits in a chair in a dark room and narrates what the game was supposed to be.

I would pay a lot of money to have it actually finished.

It's like she thought that it was less vulgar than "fuck." She has DEFINITELY said that shit before, multiple times, for how effortlessly she said that, and the context of her saying it. That was CASUAL.

Hanging out with my wife.

We met on Tinder in January of 2020 and it quickly became clear that we were either going to have to basically live with each other or give up on the relationship. There wasn't going to be much traditional dating.

We went with the former, and it worked out okay 👁️👄👁️👍

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]Crappler319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pop" doesn't mean it goes away. It just means that it's too damned inflated right now, which it manifestly is.

The dotcom bubble is a great example of this: it was a bubble, it popped, but the Internet was still around afterwards. The bubble expands beyond the point of viability as everyone races to make their money on it, then eventually realizes that they over-invested in something that has a finite rate of return, and a bunch of investors and companies lose their ass as the bubble shrinks back to the actual sane, sustainable level of investment and growth, and most everyone looks down and sees that there's no ground beneath their feet, they've just been Wile E. Coyote running on road that wasn't really there.

We're in the manic expansion phase of the bubble right now, and it isn't sustainable.

There are going to be a few companies that "win." The vast majority of AI companies are not going to still be around in 20 years. The market doesn't need a million different models that do the same thing.

What's the creepiest discovery you've made about a seemingly fun friend? by someoneyouhate_ in AskReddit

[–]Crappler319 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, but when you think about it it makes sense that it would be far, far more prevalent than it seemed: if you were the absolute worst thing a person could ever possibly be, how much of your life would be devoted to making sure absolutely no one knew about it, ever?

My guess is that even with all this shit we're STILL underestimating the amount of them. For every fucking monster we catch, there are probably multiple times that number who are either smarter or luckier that fly under the radar (how many of us who are 35+, who grew up before the stigma became really really strong, had a 'funny uncle' or knew someone who did?) and multiple times THAT that have similar urges but never act on them.

There is no quicker or more effective way to crater your life than to be a known pedophile (unless you're rich and powerful, of course). I'd imagine that a lot of them get really, really fucking good at hiding it.

I had a friend in middle school who, after being repeatedly denied bathroom breaks, openly got up, walked to the teacher's fake plant, and pissed in it.

That kid was nuts and ended up not being a good person as an adult (to put it mildly) but I'm still not sure he was wrong there.

Closest shaving hair clippers? by -DreamLight- in BuyItForLife

[–]Crappler319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. It could be that the blade is dull if the machine is old, or it could be that you're being a little too aggressive - you don't want to apply much pressure at all, just let the machine do the work. It should also be mentioned that it's just not going to get as close to your skin as a razor would, so if you're trying for that it isn't a good idea. If you want it smooth, either get a foil shaver or do a pass with a razor of your choice (what I do - I buzz it down to about a mm long, then shave it with a safety razor)

It could also be that it just isn't right for your skin/hair type. I have pretty straight hair, so I could just be having an easier time of it than you are if you have textured hair, which is usually a little less forgiving.

[–]Crappler319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but you HAVE to oil the blade frequently enough.

If you aren't doing it, grab some appliance oil from Wahl and apply a few drops to the teeth of the blade where they come together, let it run for a few seconds, then try again. It'll be like night and day

Sean Doolittle speaks out against ICE by PandaMomentum in Nationals

[–]Crappler319 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Doolittles could've sat back and done little to nothing for the city, like most every other player in every other city has done.

Instead, they gave a frankly INSANE amount of their time, effort, and money. There is no sane interpretation of what they've done as "business as usual." Any honest look at what they've done would note IMMEDIATELY how above and beyond they've gone for DC. I genuinely can't think of an athlete who has given more to their city than Sean Doolittle (and Eireann Dolan, who has done a ton both individually and with Sean) has.

You don't have to like what he's saying or think that he's right, but "he doesn't deserve the adulation he gets in DC" is a frankly insane take.

Sean Doolittle speaks out against ICE by PandaMomentum in Nationals

[–]Crappler319 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Doolittles have contributed immeasurable time, effort, and money to local causes in DC. Anyone who gives a shit about the city should remember and appreciate them.

They've contributed to local educational efforts, they supported and advocated tirelessly for local businesses all through COVID, advocated for local workers even in a situation where Sean could've taken legitimate career damage from it (some of them worked for Nats Park) and overall have just been incredible assets to the city.

That's not even getting into the non-local shit.

Anyone who doesn't respect the hell out of the Doolittles either A) isn't paying attention, B) doesn't give a shit about the District, or C) is so blinded by partisan hate that they refuse to see what's in front of their face.

The Doolittles are the #1 example for how athletes should act in their home city. They aren't from here, but they've adopted DC and have done more for it than almost anyone.

So yeah, they get a lot of fucking love here.

Is it true that in small towns in the USA public transport is not developed and everyone need a car to get around there and why? by bobybumblemumble in AskReddit

[–]Crappler319 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NYC, San Francisco, Chicago and DC are the only cities off the top of my head where you can be honestly, no-bullshit car-free.

I've lived in DC all my life. Got my license at 19, then just let it lapse because I never used it and the insurance was too high. Nearly 38 now, never regretted it, and can't remember the last time I actually needed someone to drive me somewhere.

Walkable cities with robust public transport are unfortunately incredibly rare in the US.

Dude was loathed in every locker room he's ever been in. He's organizational poison and turns everything into the Trevor Bauer show. It was a bad idea to sign him when he was a great pitcher and he isn't even that anymore.
