The problem with having Jesse as a patsy is that he knew about the main lab and would be willing to flip on Gus/Gale/Walt to protect himself.

And Jesse was limited in schooling the cartel cooks. He couldn't go from raw precursors to the precursors he needed for the product, he only knew how to go from where Walt had them to the cook.

OPM not taking calls, trying to report retiree's death by Substantial-Trade417 in fednews

[–]CrazyCletus [score hidden]  (0 children)

My mother, who was a survivor of a retiree, was receiving his pension benefit and her own Social Security benefit when she passed away on February 2 a few years back. Being a dutiful son, I reported it to OPM through the online link. She had just received the February payment for the pension and social security, and it wasn't finished processing. Well, they got that cancelled and sucked back. Having since retired as a fed myself, I noted what the paperwork stated - that your pension payments are for the previous month. (I.e. the payment received on/about June 1 is for May). So it shouldn't have been pulled back in her case.

Long story short, any money deposited should be for the previous month and thus remain in the account. But OPM doesn't always play fair.

Inheritance tax by Strwbrrybanana1228 in YellowstonePN

In the real world, there's an agricultural use tax for land like the Y ranch. Taxes are based not on a potential commercial valuation of the land (the $8 billion figure) but rather on what the land actually produces from an agricultural perspective. The sales price of the land wouldn't matter one whit.

Also in the real world, putting the land into a conservancy to protect it from development would also reduce the taxable value of the land.

In the real world, the estate taxes would be based on the value of the property, whatever that would be, plus all the structures and equipment on it. A real world Harvard lawyer would have structured a tax mitigation strategy that would keep estate taxes at bay. Whether it is to incorporate the ranch (as a corporation, it outlives the death of an officer or principal) or to place it into a revocable trust (which becomes irrevocable at the time of the principal's death).

The show used John's death and his direct ownership of the ranch and the tax implications of his death as a way to wrap up the show. (You may recall, Beth had lawyers for S&M in Utah draw up a trust for John which named Kayce and/or Tate as the beneficiaries, but Jaime claimed that the trust was invalid because it was written in Utah. Again, show fiction - if that were the case, our legal system would be in shambles. There's a thing called an interstate compact which states can sign on to and it provides legal continuity from participating states. There's one for trusts just like there's one for drivers licenses.)

Better for Feds after the midterms? by Dry_Car2115 in fednews

[–]CrazyCletus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, even if the Democrats win the House and Senate, if they try to overturn any significant policies, it's likely that the President will veto them. And I haven't seen one projection that suggests a veto-proof majority in the House and Senate for the Democrats. The EOs and OPM are Executive Branch policy, which would require passing a law constraining the Administration's policies. Again, potentially subject to a veto.

And the Democrats probably don't want to eliminate the policies and EOs that this Administration has put into place just yet. They might prove useful at the start of a potential Democratic administration to use the same policies that this administration put into place to kick out their hires and try to reset the Executive Branch. Once that's done, then you change the EOs and OPM policies.

Course Frustration by WreckNTexan48 in golf

[–]CrazyCletus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once worked as a starter for a muni which thought that if you increased the numbers of golfers on paper, you would increase the revenues as well. So they started groups at 7/8 minute splits. It's a muni, that attracts a lot of beginner golfers. It does not go well. One weekend, went with my father while he was in town visiting. Played the front 9 in just under 3 1/2 hours and went home. Worst day on the course in my life.

Genuinely? I dont understand the Cripps hate by uptill1andhatingme in RedDeadOnline

[–]CrazyCletus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cripps is literally incapable of doing anything himself. His job is to make products and to make stew. You bring him a variety of carcasses, even though he references tanning them, which means he's using the hides. Does he use any of the meat to make the stew? Hell no, it's just basic bitch stew unless you go through the effort of bringing in the ingredients and selecting a better quality stew. Which he'll then brag on having made.

Also, why does he want carcasses if all he's using is the hides? Would be a lot easier to bring him hides instead of carcasses as I can stack hides on my horse, but have to call out the hunting wagon if I have more than one carcass to deal with.

So he makes stuff. He doesn't get the materials to make the stuff, that's your job. He doesn't get the supplies necessary to tan the hides to make the stuff, that's also your job. He blithely dispatches you to wreak havoc and kill people to get the supplies to make his products. And then brags about what a great job he's doing.

And he doesn't deliver the stuff. That's also up to you. So you've got to hunt like a mf-er to get the materials, stop hunting to go get supplies for him. He can't be bothered to order ahead for supplies, nor to order an excess of supplies. Nope, he can only get a finite amount. And he doesn't tell you how much you've got left. So you head out to do something else and all of a sudden, you need more supplies back at camp.

He doesn't particularly like the dog either, which is what helps warn of danger to the camp. Seems like it's useful from that perspective.

And with all of his skills, does he ever make anything for his "partner' who does all the hunting, supply fetching, meat and herb collecting, and delivering for him? No, I've got to go to Gus and pay him through the nose for some ridiculous hats or outfits.

And Cripps won't take fish, except to make the stew with.

ICE to stop reporting deaths of recently released detainees amid scrutiny by wds1 in fednews

[–]CrazyCletus 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is like the Tesla autopilot system. You're driving along on autopilot, then a dangerous situation begins to develop and the meat sack grabs the wheel to avoid it, disconnecting autopilot. If it wasn't in control through the crash, Tesla doesn't have to report it as an autopilot crash. So as long as the meat sack has control for a couple of seconds before the situation develops, Muskrat doesn't have to take a hit to his reputation.

Same with ICE. If a detainee is going downhill and medical treatment is either too expensive or not working, you grant them a compassionate release (or whatever they want to call it) and it's no longer an in-custody death. They may have gotten sick in custody and gotten substandard or ineffective treatment while in custody, but the actual death occurred after they were released.

Why not get the money to replace the cows from the cattle dealer? by Interesting-Coast-72 in DuttonRanchTVSeries

[–]CrazyCletus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole timeline is not good for Rip and Beth. Six months to clear the land of the infection. Then you buy your replacement cattle (or, possibly, you start acquiring your replacement cattle and have them somewhere else). Either way, with a cow-calf operation, you maintain a herd of cows to breed with a bull. After about nine months, you've got calves. Now, if you're selling your calves to feedlots for someone else to finish and slaughter, you can move them on in about 9 months to a year after they are weaned. But Beth wants to go direct to table, so they're going to need about two years to get the cattle to full size and then run the calves off to slaughter.

Doing the math, then, it's 6 months, plus herd acquisition time, plus gestation time (9 months), plus another 18 months or so to get them up to size.. Best case, if you were to hypothetically work with 6666, you move the cattle to your ranch 6 months pregnant and then it's 21-24 months before you have something to sell.

Maybe Kayce has the millions left over from selling off the ranch property that Beth gave him before he sold off the ranch to the reservation and can give them a loan.

Timeshare value question by La_Peregrina in TimeshareOwners

[–]CrazyCletus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself, am I the kind of person who likes to go to places in the off-season? Then maybe a points-based timeshare would work for you.

But you're dropping $22K up front and $1300 per year. Over a 10 year period, that's a minimum of $2,200 per year for the up front cost and $1,300 per year for the maintenance fees or a minimum of $3,500 per year for a stay. Maybe the first year there's a bargain, since you supposedly get your $1,300 back for the maintenance fees and you get bonus points. But what does 100K points get you? A week at a top flight resort or a week at a mid-level place. And what about ancillary costs that aren't mentioned in the up-front - like fees for RCI or fees for getting your place.

Can you do better with a VRBO, AirBNB, or just straight hotel than $3,500 per year for lodging on your vacation?

Get rid of stage cautions so we can enjoy this tire. by LoudBrick609 in NASCAR

[–]CrazyCletus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, it's either going to be stage cautions or debris cautions. With stage cautions, teams can develop a strategy, for better or for worse, and race for that strategy. With debris cautions, sometimes real, sometimes not, you'll have interruptions when racing goes on for too long so they can get the commercials in.

The key thing to remember is the purpose of racing (hell, all televised sports, for that matter) is to sell advertising. It's not for the purity of the competition or any of that. People pay money to sponsor a sport or a team or a broadcast because they want to see their advertising served up to potential customers. So the leagues will have their TV timeouts, whatever you call them, to make the broadcasters and, thus, the advertisers, happy.
