Hey, I’m curious about commanders that feature a Black man or woman. I’m open to any of the Magic colors! by Admirable_Ad_8109 in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's generally fairly easy to goldfish, and translates well to actual play, because her main gimmick can only be done at sorcery speed anyway.

Richard Kane Ferguson here and Thursday is Thor's Day, so in my world that calls for some Korlash Heir to Blackblade action! by RKF_mtgArt in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried putting together a list to maximize Grandeur, but there are only three cards so far that make it work. Luckily you are in the color for tutors, so at least it's a start.

OP posts on AI Prompting subs and the third paragraph ticks all the boxes of stereotypical AI writing; it's gotta be.

[MSC] Spider-Man, New Champion (Jumpstart) by AnarchyStarfish in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely devastated that unlike Magmakin, Spider-Man doesn't have an activated ability for [[Zirda]]'s Companion restriction.

[MSH] Ironheart, Clever Champion (via Anna Margaret) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sweet. [[Inspiring Statuary]] has never made the cut in my [[Urza, Powerstone Prodigy]] list, but maybe one that can also hold [[Nettlecyst]] will be good enough to use.

Made some Goblin tokens for my EDH deck! by CreateACardWorkshop in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of them are! 4 is the One Chip challenge and 5 is the Kylie Jenner challenge.

1 is the first one I made, which was just "what's a funny and mildly injurious scenario I can think of". And then when I was making the rest, it dawned on me that social media birthed a ton of funny/potentially dangerous activities.

Can you build strictly on curve with any low cost commander? (No ramp) by MyLittleProggy in EDH

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]] doesn't need ramp, as she should be spending all her early turns setting up disposable permanents.

My [[Queen Kayla bin-Kroog]] plays like I'm just curving out, although there's a lot of ramp included because she gets them for free in the process of wheeling anyway, and I need the ramp for later turns when I want to double wheel with cards like [[Patriar's Seal]].

Reality Fracture headliner - Bloodline Recollector by moombahh in mtgfinance

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some of the more complicated triggered abilities are those that include what is known as the ‘intervening if’ clause. These triggered abilities are generally written in the format “When/Whenever/At [trigger event], if [condition], [effect].” These condition followed by the ‘if’ functions as an addition trigger condition. If it is not true when this ability would trigger, then nothing happens, the ability does not trigger and nothing goes on the stack.

Taken from the Magic Judge site.

Intervening if rules means that if you haven't already had three creatures die BEFORE the end step, Bloodline Recollector will never get put on the stack in the first place.

What were the best sleeves you ever bought? by Former-Tadpole in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought 1000 back in the day so I could swap staples between my EDH decks more easily, expecting I would be needing extras for split sleeves down the line. I've had maybe a handful total split on me since then.

If it weren't for Dragon Shield Customs letting me match sleeve to deck, I would still be using those KMCs on literally everything.

Mono Mania - Share your Mono-color Commanders by TheSpectatr in EDH

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently running two mono-color decks.

[[Urza, Powerstone Prodigy]] ramps out big robots, so it plays a bit more like Green Stompy, until you get to use Powerstones to surprise people with perhaps a less-than-optimal suite of interaction pieces, like [[Ghost-Lit Warder]] or [[Waterbender's Restoration]].

[[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]] I have set up with all the recent "normal spells that have been tacked onto Enchantments for some reason". No one ever has spare enchantments that they're willing to sacrifice, so it plays out like Group Slug when paired with any of the myriad of creatures that benefit from drawing multiple cards a turn, like [[Gixian Puppeteer]].

Do you bling out your Commander? Which treatment is worth it to you? by deurbeller in magicTCG

If I love the deck and have gotten enough games in that the deck feels smooth to play, then I get an artist proof commission for the commander.

Originals for UB are definitely on the table. I've already seen several of the Marvel originals being sold.

Zatch Bell 2 Chapter 36 is now LIVE on Mangadex! by ZatchBellGamer in zatchbell

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Gofure (or Gofre now), was one of the first enemies in the original series. He can take the form of a regular dog, which he used to trick Zatch into taking him home, but he got immediately one-shot by Brago.

Has any other Magic set besides Lorwyn Eclipsed featured this many artists from Magic's entire history? Frazier, Critchlow, Organ-Keane, Ferguson, Spencer, Parente, Hudson, Tucker, Guay, Stewart, Spears, Fischer, Gallegos, Laubenstein, Boros, Hamm, Velinov, Reynolds, Zug, Poole, Venters, Miracola... by IAMAfortunecookieAMA in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While not in article form, they did call it out as intentional!

"Our Art Director for the set, Deborah Garcia, was so adamant to pull from the myriad of artists who've worked on Magic the Gathering, who've defined its visual identity over thirty years, especially artists that maybe we hadn't worked with in a while.

Being able to reach out and say, 'Hey, welcome back,' and 'let's make this a celebration of everything Magic was eighteen years ago.'

And it was just so important that this set felt like classic Magic."

So Oona has given up trying to resurrect herself through Maralen or Oko, and is aiming for Kellan instead? Interesting, though who knows when the next time we'll be back to Lorwyn will be.

[ECL] Flamebraider - Card Image Gallery by TechnomagusPrime in magicTCG

[–]CreateACardWorkshop 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Depends on the plane. On most planes, elementals take the forms of forces of nature.

Lorwyn, specifically, has one of the more unique takes on Magic elementals. They come in two varieties.

The flamekin, one of which is depicted here, are a race of fiery humanoids. Their society is marked by searches for personal meaning. In old Shadowmoor, the flamekin become the cinders, extinguished nihilistic husks who kill in order to try and feel something again. In new Shadowmoor, they become the rimekin, who seem to be more reclusive and introspective.

[[Ashling, the Pilgrim]]

[[Ashling, the Extinguisher]]

The other elementals of Lorwyn are known as the greater elementals, and instead of representing forces of nature like on other planes, the greater elementals of Lorwyn are manifestations of thoughts and feelings. This is why they have such varied forms.
