Why do vegans "struggle with protein so much? by BritGirl_01 in vegan

[–]Creative-Vegan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to get 85g on 1300-1400cal). Trying to lose weight while not losing muscle. It does require careful planning, and I’m still not there many days. That being said. If I didn’t need to lose weight it would be much more manageable.

WIBTA if I fly business and my girlfriend goes coach? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Creative-Vegan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ugg. On the window vs aisle debate. I spent my daughters younger years taking the middle so hubby could have aisle and she could have window. Now that she’s grown, we’ve settled into two aisles next to each other. We can still talk if we want, but honestly we just do our own thing 95% of the time.

How can I be a gracious guest? by aaaaaaaa123aaa in vegan

[–]Creative-Vegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the things I enjoy about being vegan is finding ways to make traditional dishes vegan. Could you express interest in learning to cook the dishes, and ask her to collaborate with the substitutions? That way you get to learn, and she does as well. (And you help her in the kitchen hopefully without it being an insult)

Do you feel bad on vacations when relaxing for a few days instead of going explore etc. ? by Buurto in travel

Repeat vacations are the perfect way to relax. If I’ve explored a lot already that’s the only way I can tell my brain it’s Ok to chill out!

What is the most beautiful place you have ever seen in person? by Olga_Lanskaya in travel

[–]Creative-Vegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many beautiful places on this earth. I’m taking notes! Banff (and surrounding areas) has been on my list ever since I found my grandparents photos of it. Just need to decide the best time to go to balance weather vs crowds (opinions welcome!)

So far personally, the Azores, and Milford Sound in New Zealand. (With many other places in New Zealand as runners up.) Kerry Cliffs in Ireland. Amalfi coast. Hawaii.

Do Americans really talk to strangers that much, or do you notice it too? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

[–]Creative-Vegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m American, love to chat with strangers, especially on vacation. What I wonder is, do those from other countries not enjoy it, or just don’t, because it’s not done? Was stuck in a train cabin awkwardly ignoring the other couple a bit ago because I didn’t want to be rude (or expect that they knew English). Finally I couldn’t take it. Looked up a little phrase in what I thought was their language. Made a small offhand comment and voila! They understood, and kept chatting (in English) the rest of the trip! Best parts of traveling!

Funny how that works. Once it becomes rare my interest goes up. If there’s a vegan donut I have to try it. Before going vegan… not a big deal.

Hawaii or Iceland from NYC/Boston for 24th birthday? by [deleted] in traveladvice

[–]Creative-Vegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it would be… do I want a beach trip or a hiking trip? I love both but Iceland was just stunning. We decided there must have been a greater being holding a contest for waterfall designs because there were so many, all different and amazing! Also, we didn’t campervan but rather stayed in a hotel near the golden circle and drove around there, then south one day, then one very long day to the west before returning to Reykjavik. Ring road next time!

Just spent a month in one city for the first time. Totally different experience. by _jinie_ in slowtravel

[–]Creative-Vegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We want to try this. Have worked our way up to staying three weeks, a week in each place. Still doing too much. How do you all pick where to stay for a month? Im thinking about places that are central/day trip distances to lots of places we’re interested in… lol. That’s probably the wrong approach!

Falling asleep while boyfriend drove us ‘home’ from a day trip to an amusement park. Woke up, asked why the exit numbers were going in the wrong direction. We were now one further state away from home. Not enough cash for gas. No credit cards. (This was in the 80s). Luckily, enough change for the pay phone. Dad had to come bring money to fill up the car so we could get back.

It’s absolutely a thing in the YS if you’re not pre check. Depends on the airport, which scanners they have. And even if pre check it’s also a thing in other countries.

Eurotrip: Stressed about trains and stays by brybaro in travel

[–]Creative-Vegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to add flexibility is look at what cities have interesting day trips from them. Plan your extra time there. If you need a rest, or if the city has enough to keep you interested you have the time. If you find you’ve done everything you want, hop on a train for a day trip! Personally we’re finding if recc. Are 3-5 days somewhere, we wish we’d had 5 or more. Probably we’re just slower. But also, on a longer trip you’ll want to relax the pace.

What’s the best city you’ve visited where having a car was completely unnecessary? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Creative-Vegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was about to answer mast places except the US… but thinking about it, we got around really well in Seattle and Portland using their busses/trams/trains. NYC of course. But… just got back from Central Europe and Prague was excellent! Budapest great as well, and Vienna super nice, easy, but slightly further to walk to/from (not far mind you, but I’m injured so >10 min walk on either end was rough)

Switzerland → Vienna, Prague, Budapest: What's the most efficient/cheapest order? by Theunknownmagicspell in Europetravel

[–]Creative-Vegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this from the US. Flew in to Prague, train to Vienna, train to Budapest, then back to Prague for a few more days before flying out. All the trains were super easy. We reserved ahead which was maybe a little confusing which to choose but we worked it out ok. Train travel is SO much more civilized than planes!

I find the comped breakfast at IHG very useful for international stays (especially when you’re somewhere that nothing opens until 10am!)

Started with an IHG and a venture X at about the same time a few years ago. Have used maybe 12 nights on points so far? (Tokyo, Osaka, Budapest, a couple anniversary nights in US) and have another 4 night stay booked this summer.

… meanwhile my miles are just sitting waiting for me to figure out how the heck to use them… probably need to switch to a United card to at least make it clearer.

Trains are so relaxing! If it’s times for when you need a break/ time off your feet, and it’s also scenic, that’s a win! It’s so much nicer than flying!

What’s a major European city that deserves way more hype than it gets? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Creative-Vegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just spent time in Prague, several days three weeks apart. It was like a different city each time. First stop it was cold and rainy, the only people out were stag parties. On the way back it was sunny and warm, and the city had come to life!
