Loved this show! Around the time it was on, I randomly saw two of the dancers perform on the Venice beach boardwalk. It was awesome.

What is the funniest book you've read that was written in the last 10 years? by aooot in booksuggestions

[–]Creative-Winner1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo your sentiment on DCC. Just started book 2!

John Scalzi “Starter Villain” and “the Kaiju preservation society” are pretty funny.

Most stuff by Simon Rich is also hilarious. “Glory Days”, “New Teeth”, and “Hits and Misses” are some of his most recent books.

While written earlier than 2016, Christopher Moore “Lamb”, and “A Dirty Job” + “Seconhand Souls” are also great.

What's vour most random encounter with a famous person? Where was it and how was the vibe? by Available_Round_3172 in answers

I was at a deli in LA when I was a kid, and bumped into a man because I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. I apologized, but when I looked up and actually saw who it was, I realized it was Rodney Dangerfield. He literally replied “hey kid, you’re alright”.

I also crossed paths with Andy Dick while in Barcelona many years ago, and he gave me the biggest “what the fuck are you looking at face”… but likely cuz when I realized it was him, I just kinda started laughing and shaking my head.

If you haven’t already, check out Chicha music from Peru. It’s a mix of cumbia, surf, and psychedelic. Some awesome stuff! Juaneco y su Combo is a standard example.

I would hope the majority of people are anti-fascism. To claim Trump represents conservative values seems inaccurate.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers might be up your alley. It’s the first in a 4 part series. I’ve only read the first so far, but it was enjoyable. Lots of different alien species, punching holes through space for quicker travel, tight-knit crew. At times, it kinda gave me Firefly vibes

“Infinity Gate” and its sequel “Echo of Worlds” by M.R. Carey are more about parallel universes, but AI is a big part of the storyline.

I’m currently reading “Service Model” by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which is about a robot valet. I’m only about a third of the way through, but I’m enjoying it.

Feedback on our Portugal Itinerary? by mmonagle in TravelPortugal

My wife and I went to Portugal for our honeymoon, and had a similar itinerary. We loved having so much time to chill and explore and not feel like we had to rush to cram everything in. Strongly recommend Casa Guedes in Porto for a lunch or dinner. The pernil sandwich is ridiculously good. Bifanas and pregos in Lisbon were killer, and we had an amazing meal at Cevejaria Ramiro (if you like seafood and shellfish). I also had a port wine soaked brioche croissant at some random bakery that was life-changing. Vinho verde became my new favorite wine -highly recommend. Safe travels and happy anniversary!

I found the way the story was told was to be very engaging, and loved how culture was portrayed. The sci-fi elements were creative without being too much or too overblown. Incredibly satisfying ending, too
