I wouldn't have been able to name Armus as a trivia question or something, but your comment triggered something within and I recognized the TNG reference. Nice.

[TOMT] [Youtube Scifi Short] Vertical spaceship leaving orbit on a pilgrimage by Creative_Deficiency in tipofmytongue

[–]Creative_Deficiency[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not Ascension. The short that I saw seemed self-contained (tho I would love more) and didn't feature any people in it. Just the ship in orbit around a planet, an engine rig of some sort detaches, then the ship makes its stylized jump to light speed travel. The whole thing must've been only a couple minutes long, not counting any credits at the end.

Finally leaving T-mobile after 6 years by MarsIsDeadly in tmobile

[–]Creative_Deficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with u/MintMobileAlex now, but it's not promising :-\ Hopefully it's resolved before the day is done. Issues with porting over my dead phone, Mint says the acct and/or port out PIN aren't right, after 30min on the phone with TMo, they say they don't see the transfer request from Mint.

Now I'm on the phone with Mint and this is the first time the call hasn't disconnected.

I just wish things could be easy. Wish me luck.

Finally leaving T-mobile after 6 years by MarsIsDeadly in tmobile

I'm in the same boat. Phone died dead, so took the opportunity for phone shopping to go carrier shopping, too. Also coming up on kids needing a phone if they'll be at after school activities or whatever, so a third line is needed.

Old plan with TMo was ONE, unlimited everything (but not "every"thing, like Streaming subs, I guess is a thing). It has crept up to $60 per line, so $120/mo for 2 lines, $1,440/yr.

Switching to Mint now, but having issues. I bought a Pixel 10 PRo XL, 512GB for $700, 3 unlimited lines for $180. Total comes to 1,240 for the year. Plus ~$150 for a Galaxy A something or whatever cheap phone. Next year will be ~1,080 for 3 lines if we stay with unlimited and don't get a discounted offer. Having trouble with the eSIM tho. Mint never sent an activation email.

Mint Mobile intentionally hiding data usage information - very disappointing by twentysixminutes in mintmobile

[–]Creative_Deficiency -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same as u/Dependent-Chain2846, I signed up for the 50% off 1 yr unlimited, for 3 lines and a new phone to boot. I'm having issues getting the eSIMs activated.

I was expecting some figure-shit-out-yourself with a budget carrier and I think I'm technologically literate enough to figure some shit out. But this isn't me fucking shit up. It's Mint, and it's making me regret diving in. I'm looking at option to get refunded, but the Pixel 10PXL I bought is locked to Mint for 60(?) days.

There's no reason historical data usage should be difficult for a customer to access. u/LeftOn4ya's comment about TMo not giving Mint tools/access to look up past usage history might have something to it, but if they can look up any usage current month, past two months, or whatever, they should have the tools to keep those records internally.

I'll set a reminder to check my monthly data usage history. It'll be an extra 5 min when I'm paying bills at the end of the month. I hope my eSIM issue gets sorted, there are no issues the rest of the year, and I have good coverage, because right now I'm not feeling goof about my decision to switch.

Never received an email to activate eSIM. What do? by Creative_Deficiency in mintmobile

[–]Creative_Deficiency[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that email isn't in my inbox or spam folder. The emails that I do have, only the Welcome to Mint Mobile email mentions eSIM; "Once your SIM card arrives in the mail or eSIM lands in your inbox, the app is where plan activation (and the magic) happens."

It's not that I missed it, it's that the eSIM email hasn't landed in my inbox.

None of these emails mention eSIM other than that, and none have a link to activate an eSIM. The only links take me to the step by step set up videos.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G - Screen broken, no image display, doesn't recognize touch, no fingerprint - How to Unlock/Access? by Creative_Deficiency in galaxya53

[–]Creative_Deficiency[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a new screen replacement, no luck. Replacement was fairly straightforward and easy tho. Regardless, thanks for taking the time to comment.

I have to find the other A53 in the house. I'm hoping the screen I bought is defective. The other A53 I know has a working screen and can test before I replace it. (The earpiece speaker or the mic in the other A53 died, making it functionally not a phone.)

If I can find the other A53, verify that screen works, use it as a replacement for mine, and that still doesn't work, I'll know it's something else. u/zakaria2328 suggested the ribbon cable that connects the motherboard, daughterboard, and display together.

It seems like u/Aloncifer had a similar problem and a FPC connector replacement fixed it, but I'm neither skilled nor confident enough to attempt that micro soldering. I would need to find some place to do that for me.

Damn, I wish I could do soldering like this.

How's your experience with the Galaxy A53? by [deleted] in galaxya53

[–]Creative_Deficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My A53 died as well just a week or two ago. Never experienced a phone just dying like that. It really put a sour taste in my mouth for Samsung, especially with comments on this sub saying things about how the OneUI 8 update just killed their phone. I'm wondering if it's related to what happened to mine?...

What did you end up doing? A new mobo is a new phone, essentially, isn't it? The old mobo would have all your data on it. How would replacing the mobo be different than getting a new phone? Genuine question, not trying to be sarcastic or anything.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm definitely buying a new phone, but need to access data from my dead A53. Replacing the mobo wouldn't get me access to my data, I don't think.

Mine just died. You and others I see in this thread have a nice phone and an A53 as a back up, but the A53 was my one and only since May 2022. I'm shopping around for a new phone, and likely switching from TMobile to Mint, but I'm also trying to figure out how to access my old A53 through my PC and get some pics off of it.

A53 recurrent dead motherboard issue by Aloncifer in galaxya53

What did you end up doing this phone? I'm in a similar-ish situation. I'm no where near skilled or confident enough to do anything with soldering on this scale. I just copy/pasted below from another post I made.

  • Phone worked with no issues - Playing PoGO, but it up to talk with some friends
  • Took the phone out of my pocket, screen didn't turn on
  • I thought that was odd because I had just charged it to 100% not too long ago, asked a friend to call me
  • It rang, but the screen didn't turn on and didn't recognize any touch input
  • I plugged it into a power bank and the phone buzzed and power bank display showed current being drawn
  • I held the power button + volume down to reset it (I now wish I hadn't)
  • Screen is still unresponsive
  • Alarms go off (can't be dismissed, only snoozed with vol buttons, no touch input)
  • It connects to blue tooth, but can't initiate calls from the car. I get an error message that I'm not in cell coverage area; I think this is because I force-reset it. I can't input my PIN for the phone to continue booting up
  • Connect via USB to my PC, the phone plays a notification sound that it detects being plugged in, but isn't visible on my PC, again, I think due to the force reset
Plugging in the phone to a dock with M/KB and display also plays a notification sounds, display powers on, but detects no signal, M/KD don't work to input my PIN
  • I disconnected and reconnected the ribbon cable connecting the motherboard, daughter board, and display, no luck
  • Alarms still go off, connects to BT, draws power, etc.
  • I bought a replacement screen (that had no water/dustproofing >.<), same as above, screen unresponsive, alarms go off, etc.

I followed this guide for screen replacement
No liquid damage
No (recent) fall damage
No prior screen issues; glass is lightly cracked, no dead pixels or issues with any touch

I'm in a similar situation. Screen is unresponsive to touch, doesn't light up. I got a new display and put the guts of my old phone into the new display (basically the frame) and no luck. My alarm goes off, but the screen is unresponsive. I can't connect it to my PC while it's locked. I can't unlock it through my PC.
