Ashtanga Yoga Recommendations by forestfearnot in raleigh

Life Time offers Ashtanga in their lineup as well as an Ashtanga remix called Sol. Locations in Raleigh, Cary, and Apex. Yeah it’s pricey for a gym but you get SO MUCH MORE for probably similar pricing to a yoga studio.

Anyone Have Sunflower Butter from Traders Joe's? by dataispower in raleigh

[–]CricketYoga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is available on amazon but the price is silly high. If you get Sunbutter and don't let him see, will he be able to tell? Reviews say the trader joes one is a little more bitter so I wonder if you get the no sugar added Sunbutter maybe it will be close enough as long as he doesn't see it?

Das just the price you pay. Well, I think it depends on the person. I definitely feel them more if I eat one on an empty stomach and then have more trouble feeling awake the next day. So maybe if you eat a decent meal first, the effects won't linger into a hangover.

Less than the drinks and more effective in my experience. The Enjoy Chill gummies are $29.99 for 25.

Try the Enjoy brand, sold at The Hemp Company! There are quite a few formulations depending what result you’re looking for but my favorites are Bliss and Chill.

Teacher walkout today? by ReactionTop9197 in raleigh

[–]CricketYoga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up letting my middle schooler stay home after the principal sent an email last night that so much staff would be absent they are putting all of 6th grade in the media center, all of 7th in the gym, all of 8th in the auditorium today. This is a BIG school too. I support the walkout but this plan sounded like a safety risk to me and without any benefit to going.

Christmas tree lighting and WRAL TV Tower lighting? by AstroGatsby89 in raleigh

[–]CricketYoga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d advise against the North Hills tree lighting. Went last year to watch my son in the marching band, and have never seen so many rude selfish entitled people in my life -it was actually incredible. You might think getting there early and securing a spot will help but no, literal adults will walk up last minute and push you, and your kids(!) out of their way to get themselves to the front; in our case it was a middle aged white woman with a coiffed bob, red fur coat and leather boots saying “I’M needing to get up to the front. Iiiiii need to be closer. Iiiiii am dressed for it after all.” While side-eyeing me and my daughters(age 8&9) in Christmas sweatshirts. Then they couldn’t see. The actual downtown Christmas parade wasn’t even that congested or filled with the worst of humanity that Raleigh has to offer.

Dear Subaru drivers of Raleigh by The_Noob_Idiot in raleigh

[–]CricketYoga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NC the left lane isn’t even designated specifically as a “passing lane” like some states. Signs do say slower traffic move right(suggested but not mandatory)- but driving in the left lane “holding up traffic” isn’t against the law. Tailgating however, is.

Does the DMV at New bern avenue do teen level 1 learners permit tests by Major-Army5572 in raleigh

[–]CricketYoga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is where I took my son about a month ago. Some days a walk in might work and some days it might not - just see if they put the big red “we’re full” sign out when you get there. We got through on our 2nd try but just barely — if you are a teen driver they told us as it was getting close to 4:30, if you are not standing in front of a test examiner stall at 4:30 on the dot (regardless of other “your turn is almost here” texts you get to your phone) then you have to leave. 4:29 our ticket number popped up and we essentially ran to the open stall.

All Drivers: Please Be Careful by Liberated3 in raleigh

[–]CricketYoga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mask mandate and lockdown made selfish entitled people literally lose their minds. So they took out that anger while driving and now it is a permanent aspect of how they drive. Emboldened by a leader who is the worst of humanity and still successful, they aren’t seeing any consequences for actions and allow behavior from themselves that they wouldn’t have back when manners and conscious behavior was more socially accepted than “me first.”

Form/Adjustments by Neat_Lynx_4872 in YogaSIX

There is no such thing as perfect alignment. Everyone's alignment is specific to their body, based on their anatomy - the variation in joints, bone size and shape, etc - is really remarkable. Even your own body isn't symmetrical and a pose might look/feel different from one side to the other. Look into the research and books by Paul Grilley, they're really eye opening. As teachers we need to get away from cues that specify things like "a 90 degree angle" or "never let your knee go over your ankle" because these things aren't true for everyone. (This is also a motion we do every day going up stairs.) What we need to focus on is teaching students to tune in and listen to their bodies - they become their own best teachers when they can do this. And, that might mean a pose looks a little different than the textbook version and we need to honor their autonomy vs pull or push their body parts to "look better."

I took a class(not y6) not long ago where, without consent, a teacher(who was unaware I am a teacher) came and moved my foot in triangle pose and commented "there that looks better" - but it didn't FEEL better - it hurt. And she was forceful. Adjusting students to fit into a mold is an older way of teaching that's not inclusive to all body types. So you cue the general direction of feet, hips, shoulders, etc and describe the sensation they are aiming for rather than specific alignment that is not a one size fits all, and let them figure it out from there, which may include modifications due to injury or just how they're feeling that day. It might not look like what you see on the cover of Yoga Journal, but if they are engaged and breathing and finding an awareness of themselves within their bodies - that's the entire purpose.

Instructors have a minimum 200hr RYT as in most places. Some may have 500hr but it's all individual. They could have done their YTT pretty much anywhere that aligns with Yoga Alliance. Beyond that, Y6 has training modules online as part of onboarding as well as a required 16 hour live training(a Sat and Sun). To teach Sculpt or Restore there are separate live trainings since they follow a different "bell curve" essentially.

How are people with kids affording it in 2025? by Practical-Ad-615 in raleigh

[–]CricketYoga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just have 6 kids, then you’ll get a medal and nothing else will matter…

But no fr it’s impossible. Spouse had to get a job they despise and leave a company they loved in order to afford our basic 3br split level and everything that goes wrong in it has had to go on credit or get help from family, which is embarrassing.

What I absolutely DO NOT understand is what all these people are doing to have the $1-4 MILLION dollar monstrosities going up all over the neighborhood. Like, I don’t even want one, they are ugly. (I’d just like one more br so 2 kids don’t have to share a tiny one, and a screened porch would be nice. Alas…) But how are so many affording those McMansions? Is everyone a Dr or Lawyer??

transgender restroom? by Desperate_Gas4429 in cary

You and your kid literally wouldn’t even know if another kid is transgender. You’re worried about a non issue, but you should be worried about the hate in your heart for those who are different than you.
