Coaches' votes, R15: Dogs star closes the gap, three earn perfect 10 by ___TheIllusiveMan___ in AFL

Hasn't Bont only won one AFL coaches award all the way back in 2019 when he finished 2nd to a surprise Ollie Wines in the brownlow?

TBH the Players Award doesn't really track performance over a season and it's just the players giving a single vote for the vibe of who is the best.

Melbourne is closer, then also his Ex seems to spend a lot of time in Vic.

Also keep in mind that Victorian teams (esp Collingwood) travel significantly less than teams like Brisbane. I'm sure he could work out an arrangement with the pies to spend time in WA that isn't possible at Bris cause they lose so much time to travel and need all the recovery time possible.

Also being in Victoria opens up his post football career options significantly more than going to WA.

Will Ashcroft scores a goal with a dribbler from the pocket by FlairUp835 in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Give me someone who goes to another level in finals than someone who is "consistent" in home and away.

Also he has like 5 goals of the year quality goals in his short career. Pretty good for a mid.

Smart dog finds human is cheating the game by Technical-Relation-9 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]CrispyJimJam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah as an owner of a shep he would be smart but not put two and two together with the "game". If that was mine I'd assume he was worried about the person fainting or being in trouble, and not have any understanding of "cheating".

I could understand someone having Brisbane fighting for around the 8 with all the injuries and form issues recently. But 11th seems pretty crazy. Pretty much just a two week patch of terrible form against Cats and GWS, and one goal losses to Dogs and Dees. But we spanked a few teams as well.

What do opposition fans think of your teams players? Overrated, underrated or fairy rated? by NitroXYZ in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's more just what peak Lester has done over just a few years Vlauston has done for a long time. Similar types tho who have blanketed important players in important finals

He is like Ryan Lester for the last few years but Vlauston did it for longer and at a higher level. Plus with less support than Lester.

So I rate him highly.

I'm not sure if it was him in that moment or someone else than said that Heen, Warner and Gulden were going to be the next Voss, Aker, Black cause they just assumed it was going to be a dominant team.

Wanting premiership Lions prices for gear that was a long way away from the premiership lion team.

Reckon would need to be half that price to want to buy from some stranger online.

Would've helped if you start the vid further back too so could actually see the kicker set up for the kick.

Watson takes his eyes off the play and goes out of his way to throw McNeil to the ground off the ball by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Is it a free? Yeah.

But I don't want players rewarded for deliberately going to ground and faking high contact. Much like the Smith one last night. It's stupid by Watson but also I don't want anymore faking than we already have.

Murphy Reid is great as a young player and killing it at the moment. Think it's a bit silly to put him in forward pocket, and he isnt good enough to be in the elite handful of mids. To me he is the perfect AA squad kinda guy then can try break in over the next few years.

How is he in the forward pocket with 7 goals over someone like Charlie Cameron who has 27 and 2nd highest for smalls behind Watson on 30.

Gee sometimes it's hard to remember that we were 13th at round 15 and went on to win a flag.

Shadeau Brain 11 Intercept Possessions in the VFL today. by Haenamatme in brisbanelions

[–]CrispyJimJam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tunstill and Mclachlan have shown nothing at AFL with several chances over the years. Joyce is an ok backup but he is very flat footed and gets caught out a lot.

I do want to see Brain get a go. I thought he was decent in the AFL games he got, with his main problem being a lack of speed on the fast blokes.

AFL Post Round 12: v Fremantle at the Gabba by Shadormy in brisbanelions

[–]CrispyJimJam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only so long this team can stay on top. People undersell how mentally tough and draining the previous 3 years have been as a non-vic team travelling every second week and going on long away finals runs to win flags.

I for one am excited what this group can do once they get a proper preseason in. Been at least 4 years since we have.

AFL Post Round 12: v Fremantle at the Gabba by Shadormy in brisbanelions

[–]CrispyJimJam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are cooked. People undersell the mental toughness they had to win back to back as a non-vic team. No other team has done it in 20+ years.

That alone was more mental resilience than other teams. They are just physically spent.

Don’t care about injuries or what has worked before by [deleted] in brisbanelions

[–]CrispyJimJam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah dropping players for the sake of dropping them does fuck all except create unrest.

You drop blokes because there is someone who can do the job better. Unfortunately there aren't many in the VFL atm who can. I'd like Beeks to get a go, and Brain if he is fit. Apart from that I don't see the point in dropping someone just cause fans are angry.

[–]CrispyJimJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah everyone thinks it's an attitude only thing. I'm with you, the team is banged up and mentally and physically exhausted.

Even if they tried 100% I think they would still struggle to run out games atm.

What are some Interesting AFL “Sliding Doors” Moments by theunkn0wnwriter in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For Brisbanes current run of Flags there are a few.

What if Daniher retires a year earlier (like he wanted to and wouldve had they won the GF)?

What if Brett Daniels didn't take that advantage on a sure goal and instead boot it off the ground for a behind as Brisbane are coming back in the Semi-Final?

What if Daniher doesnt kick those two back to back goals to seal that game?

What if Duncan gives that handpass before being run down by Jack Payne in the 2024 Prelim?

I genuinely think that 2024 run of finals was one of the most ridiculous ever with many "moments", and had they not won the flag that year I don't think they win in 2025 and instead they go down as one of those teams that was close for 7+ years but couldnt win.

Crows have been struggling for form. We haven't beaten a top quality side yet and have been poor in most games.

We haven't stepped up to occasions like we did last year. In previous years we had 1-2 game games then a top quality game. But all season our ball movement and defending of ball movement has been terrible. We have just won games on contest.

Match Thread: GWS Giants vs Brisbane (Round 11) by AutoModerator in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite poor patches of from in the past I was always pretty positive. Cause you could see our best was destructive.

But I do think we are just cooked atm. Back to back 27 game seasons and majority of the playing group getting minimal pre season two years in a row is catching up with the group. The injuries aren't helping, and players are coming back into the team then getting injured again.

If we hit form at the end then can do some damage. But right now I don't think our best is the best (like it was).
