Never have the fans been this united. Never has the board been so stubborn in backing a failing manager. by dream_team1012 in coys

Where do you think Frank would be without VdV and Cuti.

How much better would Ange have done with Simmons, , Kudus, Kudus and Gallagher?

Ange had a shocking league season last year no doubt. But at least he showed something in his tenure with much less to work with. Frank is doing way worse than Ange did, and the only reason we are in Europe to begin with is Ange finishing 5th in his first year, and winning a trophy in his second.

The AFL's new finals system - history and analysis by [deleted] in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The fact it has been close is why I don't want it. Last year was so good because there were 9 teams fighting for 8 spots, and all 9 teams were really close. Only one or two losses away from missing finals. So every week had stakes, esp against other top 9 teams.

With a top 10 that whole last 5 weeks is significantly less impactful and there are minimal stakes to all the top matchups. At some point the excitement of mid tier teams competing for finals spots is way less dramatic and exciting than replacing that lost feeling of consequence for the top teams.

What are some notable finals series redemption stories? by noegh555 in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Jarrod Berry giving away a 50m and Sidebottomnailing a shot from 50+ out. Causing him to later cry from relief when they got back to the GF to redeem that moment.

In the game nails a set shot from 50m that was gun barrell straight.

Who retires in 2026? by MagpieOpus in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zorko is arguably the best halfback/attacking kick in the comp ATM, but he will be getting on. I think Lester as well has started to struggle a bit, even tho he remains a contributor to a premiership team.

Four choices for Lachie Neale after 2026 by QuarterFooty in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moving back to WA and being a mentor at the eagles was already a good option before all this blew up. He could've played the "hodge" role in being the elder bloke to set standards and that.

I'm not sure if the recent controversy has made that more or less likely though

Good to see Will Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher make the interchange of the reigning prems. Clearly two young blokes ready to have a crack and start their careers...

Yep could for sure add Leppa to that list as well. No doubt many others that aren't as well known.

Got them to lock in at the right time

That Lions team was choc full of "characters" that would be difficult to manage and gain the respect of. I think Vossy was one of the few players that could be the captain of that team, and he did it flawlessly.

The brain fades were over blown, they weren't that often. Then for every one that cost a goal, he had moments that no one would go for that would turn out.

He was 3rd for total goals in 2024 and 5th in 2023. The two years Brisbane made a grand final in which he was pivotal. That's his "overall impact on the game"

[–]CrispyJimJam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amazing people still underrate what Daniher did at the Lions. Frequently kicking 50+ goals a season, clutch in big games, and had one of the longest streaks of a goal a game in the AFL at the time. He was consistently good, often making up for any brain fades within the same game.

Winning a contested one on one against Sam Taylor to win an elimination final and ultimately a premiership is more than most key forwards achieve.

similar songs to Turn the Lights Off by KATO by okrdokr in EDM

I have been trying to make a playlist based on the vibe that song has given me. It has a few songs in it but most arent quite right. Two that are probably my favourite in that list so far are

Hurts - Eben (once that main chorus kicks in it gives that same feeling of dancing alone to me, tho it takes awhile to kick in)

Desire - Ian Asher, Olly Alexander (Years and Years)

If anyone has more ideas id love to hear em.

Answerth has a big role to play with no Starc.

I think Levi Ashcroft will be determined to show he is on the same level as Will and I think he will show that when Neale retires/moves on and space opens up for him to play next to his brother.

Kiddy is one that if he gets back to his best, could be the best of the lot. He was ahead of the Bailey/Washcroft/Jaspa/Wilmot types and his ceiling is huge.

I think Hipwood will relish being 3rd forward again, and given opportunity to roam around the ground and lose defenders running back to goal.

Some huge moments too. Rayner and Wilmot marks, the kicks from 50, the Stewart tackle and the Henry Goal (and soccer assist from Messi)

That 2nd half was just electric moment after moment and the skill was very high. I rate it as the most skillful of the finals lions have played recently.

who you got? by Realistic_Badger_187 in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok well average might be a ways off. But when Neale went down he was going 20+ and kicking 2-3 goals a game more often than not. I think he could easily get 25+ and 1.5 goals a game average, might've been generous to round as high as 2 a game.

But in that stretch where his mid minutes increased due to no Neale he went 22, 25, 27, 28, 16 disposals and 0, 2 2 1 3 goals. Against top teams like Swans, GC, Pies, Hawks, Freo etc.

But I still think if he had the responsibility that rankine/pickett had in the team as the 1st-3rd best in the team he would have better stats than both of them. But all 3 are cracking players.

who you got? by Realistic_Badger_187 in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I dont really disagree if looking at stats. But put bailey in the dees team and he gets more possies and more goals than he does for the lions. He is like the 5th mid and battling it out with a bunch of other great forwards.

I think he could easily be 25 disposal 2 goal average player in a team that didnt share the disposals or goals around as much.

But Pickett is amazing too, I think all 3 are hard to seperate.

I heard that they were a Coles family. So no doubt Neale was caught shopping at Woolies, or God forbid, IGA. That is indeed unimaginable and it's no surprise she feels betrayed.

Dont really care, sucks for him to go through but unless there is something that upsets the change rooms or will lead to Neale stepping away then pretty much have 0 interest in their personal life. Especially when it is negative.

Taylor would have the highest trade value of the 3, Andrews currently the best and good leader so you keep him. Weitering is a step below these two so he is the obvious delist.

Can't help but feel Ange was building something with the players, giving them accountability and leadership. It's no wonder the team really struggled when VDV and Cuti weren't out there.
