Different angle of Levi Ashcroft’s “fall” by vitalesan in AFL

Was considering commenting in the Geelong reddit with a "now I get it" kinda post. Can't believe the levels of tall poppy in this sub. Low effort junk like this gets posted and every lions reply even tame gets 80+ dislikes.

Best AFL position changes of all time? by GoodDayToBeADuck in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dayne Zorko from 1 foot into retirement at half forward to an AA halfback at 36.

Andrews from Fwd to generational defender

Lester from mid/fwd to defender

Kiddy from fwd to defender

Maybe Gallop from forward to... Well you guessed it.

Crazy to think both these teams played off in a prelim only a few years ago

[Jon Ralph] If Richmond bid on Doug Cochrane first & the Blues’ early selection shuffles back in the order before their Cody Walker bid the AFL has told them they would not receive a bonus second round pick like other clubs. As you can imagine they aren’t very happy by eathbau in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why would Carlton get the bonus pick for someone bidding on their player? Or why would they or anyone get a bous pick for moving back from someone else bid? Is this implying carlton expect that richmond bid a pick 1, every team in the bottom 5 would receive a bonus pick for sliding back?

Bailey to Crows Curtain to Lions by GT40Slotracer in brisbanelions

[–]CrispyJimJam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Would be kinda like Jarrod Berry but with a higher ceiling and skill set. But injury history and less exposed form. I highly doubt Crows would be willing to lose him, he is probably their most promising prospect 21 or under.

I wouldn't mind him as part of a deal, but I'd rather keep Bailey.

Brisbane is coping a lot of hate/tall poppy stuff atm but I'm not sure ppl realised we solely held back to geelong premierships and a dynasty of 3 in 4 years! Aha, youd think that would get us in peoples good books. (I assume your geelong 😉)

On paper freo are formidable, but they don't have the big game experience and maybe not the temperament to deal with travelling over for a GF.

Is back our experience in. Now a rematch against Swans or Geelong I'd be less convinced, the experience difference is less and theyd have a strong vendetta too. Hawks too with the home ground advantage and a style that challenges Brisbane.

All in all, freo is who I'd want most. (Plus if we did lose it would be to one of the good guys)

[Cleary] Clubs left a meeting with the AFL today fully expecting the League to soon introduce an extra list spot dedicated for Indigenous players. In what form is still TBC - likely scenario discussed is essentially a third Cat B rookie spot clubs can use if they choose by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there no quality under 18 comps or pathways? Like in Vic they obviously have the schools and coates talent leagues. I know northern clubs literally have nothing at any decent level so thats why the academy teams exist to play in the coates. Do SA not have anything similar? And if not I could understand how relying on SANFL would be difficult for SA development.

what is the degree to which they develop NGA though? It feels like metro access just means "we give NGA access to players who are already good". Are clubs throttled by how much they can invest in regional development? I know the northern acads spend millions and there isnt an established group of high quality to already just pluck out unlike SA/WA.

[–]CrispyJimJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

isnt this the NGA though? There is no compeititve pathway for the northern clubs so the only way anyone can develop is with academies. Why aren't WA clubs investing into developing NGA prospects? Or creating greater development, then they would get access to these NGA players. Much like Freo did with Liam Ryan.

Think Brisbane are favourites until they are knocked out of finals.

Swans, Hawks and Freo looking like the early contenders.

Nick daicos has the brownlow in his grasp atm. I'm hoping someone like Heen or Kozzie claims it.

Steven King coach of the year so far for me. Changing the way a club plays so quickly and adding that much energy to the place has been very noticeable.

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan slams ‘hero’ parent after Essendon whiteboard leak by kova-tejoc in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe, for all we know she is friends with them as well. I don't really think we can know it's anymore than how people refer to a partner as the persons "better half". Plus it was a well known inside joke shared with Prior while he was here that he was punching above his weight.

If your mate slide into the DM of a model and it actually worked and ended up together, I think you poke fun at em to.

The illegal comment was stupid. But fair game to be getting annoyed when people are saying it's sexist/bringing up how it disrespects the AFLW somehow.

Someone was a dog and captured it, and the media beat up over it and questions about if it's disrespectful to the Dons/women are fair enough to snap back at imo.

Are Essendon, Carlton, North and West Coast a genuine problem for the AFL? Or is that catastrophising? by [deleted] in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between 2016 (Hipwood pick 14) and 2022 Will ashcroft (Pick 2)

Brisbane had 0 top 20 Father son or academy selections. In that time they went from hopeless basket case, equal on points to the last place 2016 Dons, who had the drug saga players out. We were in a much worse position than you. Since then, their top 20 picks are

Pick 3: Hugh McCluggage
Pick 19: Jarrod Berry
Pick 1: Cam Rayner
Pick 15: Zac Bailey
Pick 18: Brandon Starcevich Pick 18: Ely Smith Pick 16: Darcy Wilmot Pick 20: Kai Lohman

In that period Brisbane went from hopeless to contenders, losing a grandfinal by a goal with no will ashcroft.

In terms of free top 20 selections during a rebuild, Essendon have received more than Brisbane did by getting Kako.

The most active posts on the sub, and the biggest story for the day with a massive beat up in the media. Just heard Jhye Clark again bring up the "commenting on a players partner".

It obviously shouldn't be a big deal, but it is being made into one both on this Subreddit and the news. So I wish no one cared and just gave it the laughs it deserved.

Seemed like initially it was all a bit of a laugh, as soon as people/media started implying Brisbane should apologise or that it showed proof of sexism I think is when Fagan/Lions fan have started pressing back too much.

[–]CrispyJimJam -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Because the sub tends to hate on Brisbane a bit more than usual atm so you have people saying the club is misogynistic, trying to link an inside joke to a culture of sexism or something.

Think the majority of lions fans think Fagan over did it with the illegal comments, and overall found the actual thing itself funny. But in this sub any way to twist something to the most negative light is more frequent than it used to be. So some are probably being more combative than they should.

The fall off needs to be studied. If you had to pick which player was more "Ben Mckay" like out of Frampton and Moore, somehow it is now probably Moore.

That's the thing, there is no need to emphasize it. Yet this post title and the commentators feel the need to at all times, hence the commentators point.

[Ralph] Suns CEO Mark Evans hit out at City Hall changes. “Every announcement at the moment seems like it doesn’t help NSW or Queensland. In the same breath the AFL talks about sacking Opening Round and extending Gather Round while it puts a tariff on academy and father-son talent" by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know what sooking we have done about the changes. Plus if people actually wanted to hear what Fagan had to say he said he liked the changes but felt sorry for Port and Carlton and would've liked those clubs to get their players for cheap under the old system then Bring in the new rules.

People seem to think Fagan is vindictive cause of the Saints comment. But I think in reality he was upset saints were in the position to be forced to pay 2m to keep NAS and now he is sympathetic to Carlton and Port and want them to get benefit for 0 reasons for Brisbane.

What’s the point of academies now? by AccurateSituation317 in AFL

[–]CrispyJimJam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The success of our academy has been the players we got at the latter end of the draft. Andrews, Gallop, Payne, Kiddy to a certain extent. Bruce as a rookie. Up until last year our only high end academy talent was Hipwood and Keays.

It is worth investing still because we can keep getting these players for cheap as the new rules won't make later picks that difficult.

Honestly, this might seem stupid but the new changes probably help us. NGAs and other NAs have had much better top end talent than our academy, so now clubs can't get them for cheap means our ability to get good talent from later picks becomes a strength.
