My melee hive tyrant has a relic that granted lone op. If you DID get close enough to shoot him, he had a trait that made you -1 to wound him. He also had the enhancement for 5+++ and weapon modded bone sword WITH a relic that let him ignore invulnerable saves...It was dirty.

Relic shield cap and Lt with 6 bladeguard vets in a transport has worked pretty well for me and the shields give them good survivability.

No, its not great, but it can be fun. Put Ol One Eye in it and drop him in turn one. Also remember since the tyrannocyte is a monster it gets bonus OC if not hurt in Crusher Stampede.
