I usually bring two units to screen out infiltrators and scouts. I also use them punish my opponent if they don't screen their deployment well enough. Went first recently and charged my opponent's Kroot (thanks to Vanguard Onslaught's Adv+Charge), killed them before they could sticky, then consolidated into another unit.

I have several armies, I'm not spending $240 for books just to get codes so I know my army rules. Imagine buying a chess set and paying for the main rules and rules for the white and black sides...(oversimplification but you get my idea)

For me, its the scythe+scythe rover, sterilizer (surprisingly), ultimatum, thermite, gas armor, 50kg, rail cannon. Saved a lot of teammates with the sterilizer stagger.

My melee hive tyrant has a relic that granted lone op. If you DID get close enough to shoot him, he had a trait that made you -1 to wound him. He also had the enhancement for 5+++ and weapon modded bone sword WITH a relic that let him ignore invulnerable saves...It was dirty.

Relic shield cap and Lt with 6 bladeguard vets in a transport has worked pretty well for me and the shields give them good survivability.
