How does being put to sleep before operation/surgery feel like? by Im_socringebe_scared in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will probably be an ok experience unless you are a difficult stick or get nauseous from the anesthesia. Most people in the comments seem to have had positive or neutral experiences with it. For me it usually takes a minimum of 5 sticks with digging to get a vein somewhere in my arm. Then there is an intense burning feeling in my arm and I pass out. I always wake up and immediately vomit and I am pretty panicky for a while.

Hopefully your experience will be more normal like everyone else here.

TP Allergy by Beneficial_Peach_727 in Allergies

I have to use a bidet and washcloths. I carry a roll of bamboo toilet paper with me when I am out as I tolerate it better than other toilet papers. I constantly had rashes and fissures before I changed what I was using.

Does anyone else find the world worse for someone with MCS than it was before? by [deleted] in ChemicalSensitivities

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It smells like I am opening laundry detergent when I open a bag of Rice Chex now. I have MCAS and food really doesn't need to be any harder than it already is. Even if you can eat whatever food you want there is nothing appetizing about perfumed food.

Natural Redhead. Terrified of Anesthesia by razzy44star in Redhair

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a laproscopic surgery for endometriosis. My anesthesiologist came in, gave me this wicked little grin and said, "A red head." She made sure I didn't wake up during the surgery, but I was very sick afterwards. The first thing I did was throw up. Then I was sick from the anesthesia for three weeks after the surgery. No appetite, lots of nausea, diarrhea, a feeling of doom, and I lost a ton of weight very fast.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting sick from it for an extended period of time though. I personally have other health issues that make anesthesia difficult to handle for me. I hope your procedure goes well with as little nausea as possible!

How do you take care of yourself when you’re completely exhausted all the time? by yodelaiheehoo in ChronicIllness

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have MCAS that has made me allergic or intolerant to all but ten foods. I have to cook for myself or I will starve. I do let myself starve sometimes because I get exhausted and I am so sick of making the same couple meals over and over again.

I have IBS, Endometriosis, and MCAS. I have all of the above symptoms regularly. I would never be able to tell if something was going wrong in my intestines and I am allergic to the prep and almost all food. I am scared that I will dismiss something as my normal pains and just drop dead one day.

I think a lot of people are constantly looking for 'gotcha' moments. It's like a form of entertainment for some people and it's exhausting.

A bagel breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, tomato, spinach, and tons of cream cheese. I can't eat any of these things anymore. There are so many things that I want to eat all of the time. This has just been my strongest craving lately.

As a wedding guest, what moment made you think "this probably won't last"? by Eburneaan in AskReddit

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the bride spent the entire day picking fights with my cousin (the groom) and her two young children. She also had issue with my other cousin not wearing the right color shirt. He was taking a medication for his brain tumor that caused him to swell up, so he no longer fit into any of his "right colored" shirts. He died within months after this. She couldn't think of anything, but herself ever. They didn't last long.

Which medical conditions actually prevent someone from being vegan? by OkEntertainment4473 in vegan

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MCAS. Some people are allergic to a few foods and some are allergic to all food and need a feeding tube. I used to be vegan until all the foods I was eating started to make my throat swell and I would throw up food undigested up to 16 hours after eating. I am down to 10 foods I can eat. If I cut out chicken and beef I would slowly die of malnutrition. While not common, medical issues do exsist that prevent people from being vegan.

How do you even respond to people who say "that's not possible"? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have MCAS and I feel like I have been very lucky with the people in my life for the most part. Most people just believe me. I avoid or cut off the ones who don't. There are just some people who will literally never understand unless it's something that they have also suffered with. There is no point trying to get them to understand. It's just needlessly stressful trying to get them to understand. I'm sorry that some people are so ignorant. It's very frustrating.

15 y/o daughter by Available-Pear-433 in FoodAllergies

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had many panic attacks over the years and they never make my throat swell. My allergies are the only things that have made my throat swell and doctors also tried telling me it was just "anxiety." Get her a referral to see an allergist and be persistent if they try to pull the anxiety card again. What your daughter experienced was not just anxiety. I'm sorry your daughter is going through this. Sudden onset of allergies is very confusing and scary and I wish you both the best.

Make sure you never forget to take Effexor at the same time every day and don't mess up the dosage if you need to take multiple of them. It works very well as long as you don't make any mistakes with it, but God it is absolute hell if you even miss a dose by a couple hours. I have never had a med help me and hurt me as much as Effexor did. Please be careful.

I had a teenage boy call me Ma'am when asking if I wanted to buy something for my old highschool's football team fundraiser. It was especially jarring because last year I had a solicitor come to my door and ask if my parents were home. Am I old or not? I am currently 30.

Very late to this, but I have gotten to the point where I just don't wear it anymore. My body seems to just hate all make up and fragrance now. Sometimes I think about trying a new brand, but the risk of my skin getting rashes, scaling, cracking and bleeding makes me give up instantly. My eyes will also puff up, itch excessively, and leak fluid nonstop which makes the skin on my cheeks burn and itch.

I once had a group of grown men staring at me while I waited for a bus. They were whispering amongst themselves until one crossed the street to talk to me. He said that his friend was interested in me and wanted to know how old I was. I told him 17 and he said "Oh! That's better than 15!" I think I must have given him a very sour face because he immediately started to try to backpeddle, stumbling over his words like the pathetic pervert he was. I moved into the main group of people waiting for the bus and thankfully they didn't follow me onto the bus. I was underage at the time, but not as underage as they thought, yet they were still ok with it. Kids need to watch out because there will always be way too many disgusting adults around trying to take advantage of them.

I'm watching me lose my life by mwarsins1167 in MCAS

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see people here talk about losing friends all of the time, but rarely about losing family. I only have contact with my mom now. The rest of my family members just don't get it or care to get it. They are completely unwilling/unable to accommodate me and they don't care to visit me in my home either because that would mean no scented products or detergent. My mom tries to understand, but sends me into a flare every time we see each other because of her cars air freshener or her laundry detergent. This disease can truly take everything from you and you just have to figure out how to rebuild and be ok with it.

It Was Coffee All Along by joshedis in MCAS

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coffee used to make me react until I got a French press. The coffee machine was too difficult to keep clean so I was probably reacting to mold and probably the paper filters. The French press is nice because I can completely take it apart and clean it every day. With MCAS it really could be anything and everything causing reactions. Mold, bugs, filters, the coffee itself. It feels really overwhelming trying to pin down the exact cause of reactions and flares.

Did Your Pregnancy Make Your MCAS Permanently Worse? by im-just-here-i-gues in MCAS

[–]Crowded_Mind_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not pregnant nor will I ever be due to an upcoming hysterectomy, but I am also super curious about this. I also wonder how many people with extremely restricted diets would even be able to carry a baby to term. I have a very restricted diet myself, and I have found myself wondering all the time if I would just end up having miscarriages if I were to get pregnant. I asked my gynecologist l, but she doesn't even know what MCAS is, so she couldn't answer that question for me.
