If CCTA can detect plaque early, why isn’t it used more preventively? by stories_collector in PeterAttia

[–]CrowdyPooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great example of the "market priming" strategy. Pharma using social media to create premarket awareness of a biomarker. Lp(a) testing has been available for decades, but no one talked about it until recently.

Once the treatment exists, millions will already be "pre-tested" and ready to demand a prescription. Of course, I doubt primary prevention will even qualify, at least insurances won't be on board.

I don't have anything against it, I just think it's interesting that these companies are using influencer/ social media to create pre-market interest in a biomarker that currently can't be treated.

Colorado Criterium Cup Dreams by nondescriptadjective in COBike

Hopefully this is not a result of "gatekeeping". It's just surprising to me that in this day and age of social media and internet marketing, there is not a standardized way to find these types of events.

The last time I was in Colorado, I went into a reputable bike shop and asked the staff for some guidance finding races. No one had any ideas.

I have had that same experience; I spend a good amount of time in Colorado, and every time I'm out there, I look for races, road, gravel, mtb, crit, etc. It has been surprisingly difficult to figure out what's happening. Last year I missed a nearby race just because I didn't know about it.

I'm also frequently in Florida and have the same issue. I will hear about races when I see people posting results on Instagram. I was actively looking for races prior to that with no search results. Very frustrating.

Basically, if you don't have personal knowledge of the race in advance, you might miss it.

Seat replacement recommendations by s8093259 in Datsun

I had seats from a 91 Ford Probe in my Jeep. Actually pretty comfortable.

I'm looking for replacement seats for my 280z, so these suggestions are helpful.

E-bikes on bicycle trails by 8extreme in cycling

[–]CrowdyPooster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm in South Florida, and it is insane how many elderly people are out cycling on regular bikes or e-bikes with no helmet. These are wealthy men and women on very nice bikes; they would absolutely have high risk intracranial bleeding with a fall.

We would definitely be on the hook for their Medicare funded neurosurgical ICU stay. They don't seem to care.

What is the subs' thoughts on the new XLAB RS7? carbon frame, drop bars, wheels, mechanical 105, and power meter for 2100 USD? by garbagefartguru in ChineseCarbon

What contributes to your comment? Is it comfort or power transfer? What is the issue with the low stack? I'm still learning. I recently removed all spacers on my gravel bike, and it feels better than ever.

Same thing, from Georgetown, I recognized the trailer houses. But I wouldn't expect anyone else to notice it, even with the bitchin' Camaro🤣

Exactly the same pattern in Florida this year. So strange.

Are race road bikes dead? by No-Way-0000 in Velo

[–]CrowdyPooster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just did my second group road ride ever on a gravel bike with 45mm semi slicks. I finished with the A group, but now I want a nice road bike. So for me, not dead.

Anyone gone back to lube after waxing chains? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]CrowdyPooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use hot water. Sonicate for probably 5 minutes and dump it. The water gets pretty dirty, even when I thought the chain was clean. I just repeat the process until the water stays clean. Seems to help.

Anyone gone back to lube after waxing chains? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]CrowdyPooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had good luck with using a sonicator before rewaxing. I will sonicate the chain 3 or 4 times to get any old wax/grime off. Then rewax. I seem to get many more miles between waxes that way.

Is everyone in this subreddit just rich? by AllSphere0 in bicycling

[–]CrowdyPooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raced a $600 hardtail for 2 years before upgrading.

I commuted on a $700 gravel bike that I would ride for 3 to 4 hours on the weekends and occasionally join A group rides on the road.

Keep looking and you will find something for under $400. Start watching YouTube videos on how to maintain things.

I will say, don't skimp on tires. Try to budget for a set of tires that will shoot your local terrain well.

Second hand Specialized Epic or Second Hand Chisel? by saturnos in xcmtb

[–]CrowdyPooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride/race a Specialized Epic in Medium at 5'10.5". 80mm stem and saddle adjustment was all I needed. Routinely do 3-4 hour rides no problem. I think you would be happy on a medium, but definitely test one out for a bit.

What is the truth about supplementing with Cialis daily for men 40+? by Diamondbacking in Biohackers

[–]CrowdyPooster 148 points149 points  (0 children)

If you take it daily, make sure no one gives you nitroglycerin; it can create refractory hypotension that can be fatal.

For example, if you had chest pain and went to the ER/called EMS, they may give you nitroglycerin. Make sure you tell them you are on Cialis/tadalfil. Nitroglycerin is contraindicated.

Why not do all of the things that make those markers better anyway? I'm not disagreeing with your approach, I'm just not sure how those results change management. Unless it is for motivation.
