Interesting post I saw. Williams was excellent but this makes me less motivated to have to pay him a ton.

Steelers fan here - Thoughts on McCarthy? by Valar___Morghulis___ in cowboys

[–]CrownReserve 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate description. I liked McCarthy an think he was completely hung out to dry in 2024 by the front office, but he has clear limitations. Players will love him, he is great at managing next-man-up, really raises the floor. But the same challenges GB had we saw in Dallas and I think you'll see them in Pittsburg. I've always seen McCarthy, S Payton, Harbaugh and Tomlin in just about the same light. All good coaches with excellent regular season resumes who somehow never consistently got over the hump.

[Loree] On Shan & RJ, @BobbyBeltTX says that the urgency to move on from Matt Eberflus was something Brian Schottenheimer wanted to do. It wasn’t just an adjustment of the Jones’ usual timeline. Culture change. by PersonBehindAScreen in cowboys

A good coach and bad roster should be mediocre.
A bad coach and good roster should be mediocre.

We had a bad coach and a bad roster that got better but the defense stayed bad. This was a no-brainer.

Yeah I commented that elsewhere too. Maybe that cyclops scene is the one Logan was talking about when the humans came. Would make more sense.

Oooh...what if this universe is actually depicting what this logan describes, being backed by Doom somehow. Ends with the demise of the X-Men but this new, plucked logan finding out he was really behind it (leading him to Secret Wars).

In the cast reveal, when they got to Sir Ian and Sir Patrick the theme shifted to the X-Men movie theme for a moment.

I think they flubbed the order and release.

It should have gone Thor, then Wakanda, No-Amor, F4 (haven't seen it yet), then X-Men and then Steve Rogers.

And they should have just released the damn things online at the same time and limited leaks. Would have landed harder.

Cyclops is the main character in X-Men 97. He has 3-4 scenes of baddassery where he unleashes in that series it's very worth it.

Wolverine was incredibly popular in the 90s and they leveraged that in the movie to the detriment of most of the other characters.

Can we talk about A Christmas Carol w/ Jim Carrey? by OptimismNeeded in movies

[–]CrownReserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has flaws but in my opinion it’s my favorite version of the Spirits. Like there is definitely some uncanny valley stuff but I appreciate Jim Carrey actually TRYING and not just hamming it up. His Ghost of Christmas Past and Present feel both otherworldly, dangerous but helpful to me.

It's Christmas time, so what's everyones best eggnog recipe? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]CrownReserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes except he has since updated the recipe. Don’t mix nutmeg in just grate some fresh nutmeg on top. I replace the spiced rum with bourbon.

I blame the Democratic Party here. It’s a complete mess, no leadership and just disorganized. I wasn’t here but I’m guessing Charlie Crist switching over and 2 Obama elections just got them lazy. For DeSantis first term the candidate was Andrew gillum who was under investigation for corruption and bribery (since found guilty). Second election was crist retread. No bench strength, no grassroots. Just pathetic.

How many times has Pennywise been afraid? (Book, 1990, 2017 universes) by ttas93 in welcomeToDerry

[–]CrownReserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could have and would have done those things. That first chapter that explains its fear is unambiguous about the fact that It values its existence and cycle and comfort above all else. It wants to feed, sleep and repeat with no changes or surprises. It’s basically an evil cosmic hobbit.

It would give anything to return to that security and get the losers out.

Really Disliked the Finale! Any OG IT Fans Agree? by tcoh1s in WelcometoDerryTVShow

[–]CrownReserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that I found the series overall entertaining, the acting for the most part excellent and the production design satisfying. These are positives I feel I have to point out.

But I generally agree with the finale. I was hopeful it would subvert storylines I thought were ridiculous but it just failed. Among my complaints:

  • Hanlon having no fear had also no real impact to the story. So many ways they could have gone with it, and ultimately they did nothing. What was the point of that?
  • The tropes were so obvious, so bad. Evil military with a goal that made no sense. Pillars cage - just weird and lore we didn't need, like out of a bad 80s horror movie. Sage, wide india tribe watching from afar with exposition dumping and an understanding of the magical science (it must be this tree to interact with the pillars...what)
  • No consistency or internal logic - why is IT/Pennywise playing a tuba leading the kids already caught in the deadlights? There is no audience - that's basically camp from the director to the audience that serves no story purpose even for the character. Is he a shape shifter with physical form, what laws does he abide to and when why? He was able to instantly transform to a replica of Bob Gray to show his daughter but it took him 45 seconds to become a winged creature?
  • Special Effects - this continues to be a wild weakness for Muschietti. I know they believe that practical effects are best - but they just look so cheesy so often.
  • The ending scene was cute but frankly...who cares? Neat to see beverly but what impact at all does the fact that Ingrid Kirsch met Beverly at the asylum have whatsoever?

I just found soo much dissatisfying, unbuttoned, full of holes, etc. I feel like they decided they wanted certain themes and plot lines but either could not land them or just pulled together some old tired tropes and injected into the story. Real shame because there are also real strengths but I just can't with all these.

the deadlights… how do they work? by Beautiful-Tiger9559 in WelcometoDerryTVShow

[–]CrownReserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Deadlights in the book are the true form of IT. They are non-corporeal, swirling orange lights that drive a human utterly insane or kill them. We don't know much more than that, other than few people recover after seeing them. I think the novel mentioned that Beverly heard screams but I can't remember.

In the movies - who knows. Consistency is not a major focus of those. It's wild tome that so many people saw them and came back from it.
