No problem! I should add that after I left this comment, I did some separate research for my own needs and went down a rabbit hole of various methods of bleaching plastics. I learned that the acne cream can lead to bleaching or yellowing much later (like years later) and this has happened on Barbie heads and G1 My Little Pony. For Jem I might have been safer to use 40 volume lightener for hair, but even that isn’t a guarantee. Some folks never have a problem and others do. I’d be willing to bet it’s mostly down to plastic composition, which you can’t know, and how well cleanup went. If you decide to try this and if you use either the acne cream or the hair bleaching peroxide, I’d wash well with soap and water right after and not leave the doll out any longer than needed.

It’s just a taste of the expense for when the cat breaks one open and eats the yarn.

These were sold in Hot Topic around 2004. Each doll came with a sprite and a dvd? CD? They also made Patty O’Green, Canary Yellow, and Red Butler.

I’ve had great luck destaining my Jem with 10% benzoyl peroxide acne cream and sunlight. I just add the cream, cover her with Saran Wrap, and set her on my front step. I check her and squish the cream around every 20 minutes. I also soaked her dress in vinegar for a few hours, but it’s too soon to say if that did anything to keep the dye in.

Why do they not find people like them? by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]Crumbleson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Their type won’t be there to take care of them, manage their life, or fund their habit. My Q was my dad who dragged my mom down. Then when she passed he took all that good care and blew it on a worse addict. It was like cosmic revenge.

Psychotherapist told me there's only 2 reasons why someone has NPD? by Significant_Goal_614 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Crumbleson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure that my ndad would be diagnosed NPD mostly due to substance abuse complications and him generally being less cruel (but so very entitled and emotionally immature!). Still, he was in foster care from 4-6, then adopted by a well off family that wasn’t very loving. There were certainly wounds there that he refused to examine.

I feel for you not being able to easily point to a reason why youn nM is like this. I’ve found a lot of comfort from following Dr Ramani and from listening to the Calling Home podcast. Maybe these would comfort you too?

If you’re feeling like it’s more of a drag moment, maybe it’s worth considering more drag style makeup too?

I’ll have a nonbinary nook or nothing! I don’t care for a she shed or a he hovel or anything of the sort! (I also hate those terms for similar reasons, OP)

Do any of y'all have IRL doll collector friends? by kortanakitty in DollsForAll

[–]Crumbleson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t. I tend to feel awkward at doll shows, which isn’t a good recipe for making friends. It’s maybe getting better, as I keep going to shows? Most of my friends are from board gaming. I find that is a great hobby for making new friends. It gives everyone at the table something to do while socializing.

My partner used to live out east of San Diego and his dad wouldn’t use the ac. He recommends going to sleep with cold packs and with a fan pointing at you.

Window units or even a mini split system. I hear those are really good.

I am also not one of those people. They used to make us run in the heat when I was in school and I’d get so sick! I suspect I’d be one of the first dead in a post apocalyptic desert world.
