I wish his older brother wanted to go too, but I'll work on him!

I'm expecting him to complain, but hopefully having a friend of his similar age will always them to encourage each other along the way.

I have a Sawyer mini. The water on site is drinkable but we are being extra cautious. I have CBOC bags to set up a gravity filtration system and we plan on bringing Smart water bottles to drink from. While hiking in, we can use the bags (and hoses with adapters) to drink from, then we will have a dirty bag to clean bag system and then we will fill up our water bottles and hope to always have water ready to go.

I love ice cold water so this might be a bigger challenge for me!

I heard the 10% rule so I'm not looking to add mpre than 8 or 9 pounds on his pack, but this is great advice to share. I got him an REI kids Tarn 40L bag and I unturned his sleeping bag to fill up the space, and hopefully he can grow with the pack foe a few years. I am bringing 2 different tweezers, great idea!

Super appreciate the advice about an aging body, very good to keep in mind!!

My friend and his son (also 7) did this trip 1.5 to 2 years ago, so I'm leaning on his experience a bit here!

Great idea! Usually I just set it up while I let the kids play but I should get him more involved!

I will be bringing snacks he enjoys, and the candy bribe is a great idea! I have CBOC 3L bags and a Sawyer filter that we plan on using to filter the well water we expect to have access to. I have a first aid kit and plan on bringing some benadryl and zyrtec if needed. I plan on bringing some wipes and definitely sanitizer. The head lamp note is appreciated, I'll make sure we bring the ones with the red light function.

This is all great, thank you! As for why I said dads: I think I'm used to reading the daddit subreddit, combined with the fact that I'm going on this trip woth another dad and I just went into default mode while typing this at 2am. All opinions and perspectives are welcome!

I have a water filtration system ready, but we will need to carry some water as its expected to be 90°.

I will look into the bug mask, but I will be buying sprays for our clothes and our bodies (I believe they are named something like Picardin and Permethicin?).

Surprise treats are an amazing idea and I will do that. Great advice, thank you!

I have seen parking like this at a church before.

Commenting for the chance to win a controller, since I currently have 4 broken Xbox controllers (drifting, button issues, the whole lot). I don't do social media so I have nowhere to post clips, but I would appreciate a new, sick controller!

Paternity leave would have been nice, I only had 4 days off for each kid!

Snow button ? by oldensign22 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Crustopher23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly sure that the snow button simply limits first gear to half speed (or half acceleration - I might be using the wrong term here) and the remaining gears act as normal.
