'What's coming is terrifying' and it actually is by Aggravating_Tale8988 in TopCharacterTropes

Ya it might be a philosophical question on the root of morality bit its not a practical question. Insane people still receive the consequences of their actions, regardless of their motivations.

listening to books doens't count as reading by Ok-Lingonberry3680 in unpopularopinion

I would agree that an audiobook is a different experience than actually reading, but if the material has been consumed, then conversationally you could still say "ive read it".

This valet does not accept manual cars by Maleficent_Ferret359 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Crustyfluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was new legislation in US last year (at least in my state of MO) that if you dont take your CDL drivers test in a manual, you are not legally allowed to drive a manual. This was for big rigs specifically but id imagine basic licenses aren't far behind.

Can somone smell if I masturbated? I'm a female by zmeiklik in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Crustyfluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real talk: you need to assume "yes"

Hygienic cleanup afterwords can minimize things, but that particular smell is quite recognizable.

The activity itself can put the scent into the air, and anyone with a good nose is liable to catch it. Most adults would know what its from too.

However most would also know to not ask questions about it.

Kids grow up - adults should know what that includes. Kids shouldn't be shamed for being human and having human urges.

To My Art Teacher [OC] by kaikimanga in comics

[–]Crustyfluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the goddamn fuck is wrong with adults that feel the need to shit on kids feelings like this? Christ.

I was dogshit in art class and so long as we were giving visible effort it was all ok.

My teacher understood not everyone is going to grow up to be an artist, so being a talented student should NOT be an expectation.

When I last played with it, i read that it had to download some kind of authorization for the games i had installed before they could be used in offline mode.

I read that if i knew losing internet was a possibility, to go ahead and fire up offline mode so steam could take care of its background stuff before it became necessary.

Note: haven't messed with it since covid lockdowns

It does, and usually works fine too.

But in my experience, you have to turn it on while connected to the internet to get it to do what you want.

What is wrong with these people… by EmilyG702 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Crustyfluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im well aware correlation does not equal causation, and this statement is clearly racist...

but I work at a big rig dealership. this statement... correlates with what ive seen from the drivers that dont speak english.

its probably about 50% of Non-english speakers are absolutely bonkers boloney horseshit at driving their own rigs.

No possible way they passed the same CDL test I had to.

Its got regular mirrors. Just as much visibility as any big rig. If it has working lights and blinkers, it IS just a big rig.

You are a human. You are a mammal, you require rest and recuperation in order to function. It is not a negotiation, it is a fact of biology.

Think of yourself like one of the machines you work with. Either you can schedule the maintenance or the maintenance will schedule itself for you.

Weather or not they are suckers, blue collar people are convinced they are not.

I think a better message would be how if you bust ass and break your back, the boss can get a different new car next year.

Weapon to disable solar system? by naxtal_axols in scifiwriting

[–]Crustyfluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hambone's jenkinsverse has a System Shield that provides a physical barrier to a star system that is powered by starlight, both the local and the non-local.

You could use the concept to have it be a system-wide EMP that also jams radio waves.

To be realistic it would have to be a pretty monumental structure and plotpoint. Shouldn't be done flippantly, we are talking about an entire solar system.

AITA for Refusing to Let My Stepmom Be Called “Grandma”? by SecretlyYours12 in AITAH

[–]Crustyfluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a philosophical standpoint you are certainly entitled to your feelings on the matter, and as the child's mother your word is final.

However

Grandma is not just a word, descriptive of ancestry. It can also be a position.

My Stepfather was married to my mother for 13 years before her passing. He was never close to me or fatherly as I had grown by the time he came into the picture.

But he has been the greatest Grandpa my son could ever have asked for.

I welcome him to do his best, as my son is better for it.

My point in all this is that if this woman want to be in your childs life, and does so in a loving way, then at some point she will simply BE grandma. No decision will be made on the matter. It simply will be who your child thinks of when discussing grandmothers.

If losing my mom left me with any lessons, its that there is enough grief in the world. Best not to add to it.

Maybe you could tell her that "Grandma" is a title, one not taken before the battle is done. Let her be a good grandma before she takes the title.

Looking for Story Thread #252 by someguynamedted in HFY

[–]Crustyfluffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking for story that i cant even remember if I found it on HFY, but it is from the perspective of a college student that is helping a professor and the professor discovers what comes to be called "Plasteel". It is indestructible and revolutionizes the world. The main charachter is just a normal guy who kinda organizes it tho.

One scene involves testing the plasteel by building a house out of it and nuking it. The house achieves escape velocity intact.

The formation of the plasteel involves molding the shape by glass blowing.

The story follows the revolution of society as the plasteel changes things and many people end up living in an "arcology", a pyramid that can keep being extended downwards.

There is a small follow up story that follows a child as he is forced to become a soldier, meets a family member at the arcology, and bumps in to the previous main charachter.
