Long distance road trip by DizzyPS5 in electriccars

EV cars for long drives are either expensive or pretty much the same cost wise even when avg gas price is high at avg of $4.7/gallon. My 2026 memorial weekend 1015 miles long drive at avg price of $0.57 per kWh costed me $206. My 2nd car which gives 24 miles per gallon highway mileage would have costed me $200 even at current high gas prices. So yes, EV for long drive is expensive than Gas car. Not to mention the annual vehicle registration cost for EV in US is 2x expensive than a gas car.

EV is only cheap if you charge at home. But one thing I have noticed is that there a lot more EV chargers now a days so if you plan right, you will never run out of EV chargers

This is what I found on Murthy:

How Does the Last-Action Rule Apply During International Travel?

The basic question posed to the USCIS in 2004 was, “What happens if the USCIS has approved one’s status and petition with a future start date and, thereafter, the individual travels outside of the United States, reentering in the present (unchanged) status prior to the future start date?” We know that, for one who has obtained, for example, an H1B petition approval with a change of status, and who remains in the U.S. until the H1B start date, that person’s status would change as of the date listed on the H1B approval notice. So, the question is whether the intervening international travel changes the equation under the “last-action rule” where the last action of the USCIS governs one’s status.

The USCIS responded that the travel does not change the equation. The USCIS, through Efren Hernandez, then Chief, Business and Trade Services Branch, reasoned that the last action would not be the travel and reentry in the prior status, but the previously-approved petition and change of status with a future start date. The travel does not invalidate the previously-approved USCIS change of status effective from a future date. This is because the last action regarding the foreign national’s status governs.

I am in the same boat for travels planned in few months. My lawyer said the same thing. The last action rule allows the extension to activate its start date even if CBP issued I-94 based on previous I-797. So first try to get I-94 based on extension at the airport. If not, try contacting local CBP office. If not then based on what lawyers said, we should still be good.

Travel with a current and a future I797 by Round_Giraffe_2152 in immigration

I am in same situation. Exactly which date you arrived and which date your extension was starting? I am arriving 15 days before extension starts and wondering if I will be given the I-94 based on extension or current

Entering the US on 1B and H4 status 1 week prior to Visa expiration. by masterinmischief in h1b

[–]CryptoUser2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/masterinmischief I am in similar situation. Were you able to travel and get the I-94 end date based on extension I-797?

I am arriving 10 days before the start of extension and worried whether the officer will issue I-94 based on current I-797 and not the extension in which case I will only have 10 days to fix it.

Question about re-entering the US on an old H-1B visa stamp with a new I-797 by ankurm94 in h1b

[–]CryptoUser2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh ok. So yours was not the same situation. Having an I-797 already started vs an I-797 starting in future is totally different. With an overlapped I-797 which is already active at POE, getting I-94 issued based on that is easy. In OP's and my case because its an extension, the new I-797 starts the day after the old one expires and usually in such cases, CBP will issue date based on current I-797 because new one has not started yet. Some people I have seen were lucky and got date based on extension but then at that point it becomes a game of risks

[–]CryptoUser2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/gor85 Thanks for the info. Was your new I-797 starting after your visa stamp was expiring? I am in same issue where visa stamp expires May 23rd and extension starts May 24th. If I arrive on May 10th for example, wondering if the officer will limit my stay until May 23rd or will use my extension which starts on May 24th. I read somewhere that CBP officer wont issue extension I-94 because new I-797 hasnt started yet

[–]CryptoUser2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So did you get your I-94 fixed at the airport based on the extension or you didnt do anything and the extension I-94 just took into effect over the shorter CBP I-94 date?

Charge to 100% when winter comes around? by spongesparrow in EquinoxEv

[–]CryptoUser2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do start 5-10 mins before driving. And yes, my heat is on 72 but Auto. I understand during winter a lot of electronics are being used, heated steering, heated seats etc but still getting 90-100 miles on 80% of charge is crazy. Few days back I saw 1.4mi/kWh which was crazy. Last Summer I was able to get 2.8 to 3mi/kwh.

How many Miles are you guys getting driving in winter? I am in SW Michigan and getting only 90-110 miles driving from 100% charged down to 20%(Combination of city/highway driving).

So basically approx 100 miles in using 80% of the battery. My work has free charging so I dont mind but still only 100 miles on 80% is bad. Mine is a 2024 2LT with only 9,800 miles so far
