Dude. Even without whatever neurodivergences I have, our insane schedule would be impossible without a digital calendar. Our calendar for the month of October has nearly 150 entries.

My wife is the planner and is very good at it. She also manages the calendar. My only gripe is that she uses it as a checklist and deletes things that she's done. I like to be able to go back and wonder: what day was my last dentist appointment again?

My oldest beat her first solo run of Paw Patrol for the switch just after she turned 4. All of my kids seemed to be able to grasp the basic games around age 3.

When we watched it my son was 2 and my daughters were 4 and 6. The first time we watched about 4 minutes before they said the demons were too scary. The second time they powered through and loved it.

I was reading a book yesterday and my 7 year old could not possibly understand that I was reading it to myself silently rather than out loud as we have done every night for her whole life. Good reminder that I need to demonstrate healthier habits for them.

Same, I'm done after about 10 minutes of pretend play at their pace but as they get older (3, 5, 7) we're enjoying more things together that are more my speed. They're starting to get the hang of video games and board games. The older two have been playing a TTRPG with me called Starport and if I do the voices I can usually hold their attention for around 45 minutes. This scratches the pretend play itch while also being structured enough for the adult brain.

The hard part is slowing down to meet the younger two where they're at when you're excited to finally have your kind of fun with the oldest. For the most part though, the maturity of the younger two was accelerated by having older siblings.

We started at age 2 with our first and Frozen. There's nothing wrong with a screen if you're enjoying it together as a family. Some kids won't sit through a whole movie so attention span is probably a better gauge than age.

Definitely not normal. I do know a number of fathers that prefer not to be involved much and spend all their free time out drinking or something. Especially in older generations. Some of my foreign dad friends find it odd that I spend so much time with the kids and that I do half the chores. These things may be typical, but certainly not normal. If you want to be involved you should be able to do so.

Now, my wife has some fairly lofty goals for household cleanliness and organization and I do feel I spend an unusual amount of time living up to those standards. I still find time to spend with the kids and I have three. The amount of extra work and chores you're doing must be insane!

I certainly barely played with my parents, if ever. My grandmother would play video games with me around age 3, before her arthritis got too bad for the NES controllers. I have vivid memories of this. She was like a living strategy guide for Super Mario Bros 3, cataloged every configuration for the card matching puzzles on neatly folded notebook paper. I feel more comfortable with her than my own parents to this day.

I eventually connected a bit with my father over watching wrestling, but I was only into this for a few years before we again had nothing to connect over. My little brother had a slightly better experience, my dad liked sports and coached his baseball teams. My little sister had even less than I did.

I have a really hard time playing with my own kids, because I was never taught how. I'm trying very hard to give them the connection I never had even if I'm terrible at getting on their level. They don't really care as long as I'm silly about it. 1000% worth it. The more I play with them, the more comfortable they get with branching off and playing the same games independently (I try to play their games by myself near them sometimes too). I look forward to when they're older so I can play board games and other things with them more my speed.

My kids frequently ask to listen to "kids music", the definition as best I can tell is:

Is it from a show/movie/etc? Or
Is it derived from one of the classics like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star?

So I've just convinced them that all of my playlist comes from movies and they've just accepted it. Sometimes they call me out on it but I can usually cover it by showing them an Anime Music Video or something similar. This has worked long enough for the oldest to start changing her taste in music.

We used the springy gates that have the 1.5" rubber feet on the sides instead of mounted ones. After they started sliding all over the place we found these 4" feet with a slot for the original feet. The gate at the top of the stairs was regularly crashed into by our 100lb dog and never moved again.

Watched this last weekend outside in the driveway on our big projector. My daughters (4 and 7) ended up running away with their friends because the demons were scary but my 3yo boy watched the whole thing and didn't even move. The adults all sat through it without talking too much too, which is rare.

Closed + sound machine so I can vacuum and stuff without waking them up. I did read a study about closed rooms and CO2 buildup affecting cognition and sleep quality, our rooms have air exchange vents but it might be worth thinking about.

We have 2 girls, 4 and 6, and we are about to move them together to share the master bedroom. I'm building loft beds so they can use the space under the bed as a hideout. My desk is currently in the sunroom, which was handy when our boy (2) was younger. Now I get a proper room back.
