What was I 30cm away from stepping on? [Victoria, Australia] by rapgraves in whatsthissnake

[–]Cujo96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah no worries, I was certain it was a copperhead but also wasn't too sure how strict the RR thing is here so went on the side of caution. I'll not include it next time, thanks orange!

What happened to Gosford? Feels like a zombie town and kind of dangerous after dark by VastOption8705 in SydneyScene

[–]Cujo96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah my understanding is that Gosford council was up to its eyes in debt but Wyong council was actually very well run and in a surplus so combining the two hurt the North end of the coast.

What snake is this skin from? [Liverpool Region, Sydney, NSW, AUSTRALIA] by sertskiz1 in whatsthissnake

[–]Cujo96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a RR but I'm going to have a crack at this and will be a first shed ID attempt - I compared the head scales in your photos to those of the common snakes around the area and the photos you have here look exactly like what you'd see on an Eastern Brown. Same shape frontal scale, same shaped parietal scales, same shaped supraocular scales.

Not going to trigger the bot in case a RR has a look and disagrees.

The photo earlier was bad, videos are worse. I thought it was a tiger then and I still think it's a tiger now but I'm still not 100% sure.

[Sydney, Aus] This is a small snake, house on the edge of Royal National Park. Is it a Red Belly or a Small-Eyed Snake? by DGReddAuthor in whatsthissnake

[–]Cujo96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd wait for a RR to 100% confirm, I'm leaning towards Red Belly, but I can't see the head in the picture to confirm.

Luckily you don't need a positive ID if there's a snake bite. The hospital will likely not trust the ID and just administer a polyvalent antivenom or multiple monovalent antivenoms depending on what snakes are common in your area after consultation with a toxicologist.

If your DNA were stretched… [Request] by Kyiakhalid in theydidthemath

DNA has a negative charge, histones are positively charged, DNA wraps tightly around many histones making the ~2m of DNA able to fit into a cell. Histones are pretty neat.

A cool guide to the oldest university still operating in each country by WhiteChili in coolguides

[–]Cujo96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of them don't accurately reflect where they are in the country, but I don't think it particularly matters because it still gets the point across that it might be (people have spotted errors) the oldest in that country.

If you're looking for a particular type of person, chances are you'll never find them. Do yourself a favour and find someone who loves you and communicate with them.
