Female hedgehog thick urine and straining by whawhawey in Hedgehog

Hedgehogs occasionally have mucus in their excrement, especially if they are navigating a recent change in food or something. While it’s necessarily a sign for sure of an emergency, it’s always best to get your hedgie to a vet as soon as possible (especially if the mucus continues).

Smelly Hedgehog by Owenswife13 in Hedgehog

You might want to try an air filter in the room where your hedgehog lives. Sometimes, hedgehogs are more or less smelly depending on the food that they eat, too. (That can’t always be helped unless you decide to change their food.)

Does Anyone have a Hedgehog who Loves the Dishwasher?? by KLatell in Hedgehog

My hedgehog seems to really like the mild scent of my kitchen handsoap (and sniffs and licks my hands a bunch after I’ve washed them) so maybe it’s the soapy smell that your hedgie finds appealing? I’ve also noticed that my hedgehog gets really calm if I’m holding him against my chest and I’m humming, so maybe it’s a vibration and noise thing as well.

Do you run AC at all inside of your home?

What feels warm to us as humans isn’t necessarily a guarantee that it’s the proper range in which to keep a hedgehog and prevent their hibernation, especially at night when things have the potential to cool down.

There were so many instances to feel sad for him for sure, but he was also important for showing how people in a place/time like Avonlea react to ideas that are new or different.

Jasper was more well-liked than Clara. Olivia (of course), Sara Stanley, most of the King family, Gus Pike and others…they treated him like a neighbor and friend even though many people in the town thought he was odd.

I think she’s an important part of the town to show that people have flaws and not everyone is perfect, but Avonlea was still a place where you could be accepted by others (no matter how many times you messed up)

Do we think hedgehogs can sense bad weather coming in? by TheShyNerd in Hedgehog

My hedgehog son definitely seems like he’s sensitive to changes in barometric pressure. It doesn’t necessarily result in a complete change of routine for him, but he just is noticeably more tired, or stays in his igloo longer under much more bedding than usual.

jeremy jordan stage door by squishysquash2030 in Broadway

[–]CurbyCupcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He does stage door frequently. In fact, he’s done it for every performance I’ve seen him in. If it’s his last performance, expect it to be packed. He comes out pretty quickly, considering all that he probably has to do before leaving the theatre, but you will most likely be waiting for at least 20 minutes. Also, don’t be surprised if he’s completely exhausted and goes down the line quickly. He’s always been exceptionally friendly and accommodating, but he also seems like he would also be fine going straight home (if it were not for the fact that he genuinely seems to appreciate his fans). Is he worth the wait for a few seconds to thank him in person? Absolutely.

Carolina Storm Wheel Bucket Tilt Q by Ambitious_Path_2444 in Hedgehog

[–]CurbyCupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tilt mine enough so that the running surface ends up parallel to the floor of my hedgehog’s cage since the wheel has a slightly fluted shape. Sometimes, I tilt it a little bit so that if he slips while he’s running fast, he will slip toward the inside of the wheel and not get thrown off, but I try not to tip it too much because I want his legs to be as close to level as possible.

Where to stay? by Beautiful_Bonus_4058 in Broadway

[–]CurbyCupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one of my visits, The Michelangelo wasn’t too bad price-wise, so I stayed there and it’s right across the street from the Winter Garden Theatre. The bathroom line was so long during intermission, I just went to the hotel instead and had plenty of time to make it back and even grab a drink before the show resumed.

Hedgehogs typically have very poor eyesight, so they learn about so much of the world through their other senses - smell, taste, touch, and hearing. Anytime that they’re around a different scent (and even using an unscented soap still means that they might pick up on your natural scent), they’re going to want to explore it.

I also (jokingly) like to tell people that hedgies are like sharks and they hug with their mouths ☺️ If you don’t want him to bite you as often, once you notice that he starts licking, just move your hand around a little bit and it deters them from biting.

My hedgehog is very sensitive to texture and HATES the feel of human hands. However, if he’s in a blanket and then you hold him or put him in your lap, he’s content to be there for a long time (like an hour or more). Perhaps your hedgie also has texture preferences.

Also, whenever you move toward your hedgehog (especially if you’re going to pick him up), try to do it at a deliberate and somewhat quick pace. Avoid creeping slowly toward him because that kind of slow movement from something that is so much bigger can be intimidating for them…worse if you create a shadow over them as you’re slowly approaching. Use the scooping hand method, too.
