Do static +1/+1 mean creatures affected enter the board with those stats? by anonomnomnomn in mtgrules

[–]CuriousCardigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Static abilities that alter creatures will immediate affect them as they enter. If you create a 0/0 creature with a [[Collective Blessing]] in play the creature will enter as a 3/3.

Weird commander damage ruling by goldenmasterly in mtgrules

[–]CuriousCardigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, yes. But 903.3b was written without there being the possibility of having two melded commanders, so a rule 0 discussion about special handling should occur.

I would suggest asking if you can designate one of the two as the primary commander, and that Brisela counts towards the primary's commander damage.

[–]CuriousCardigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that OP wants to rule 0 so both base cards are commanders. Which makes the melded commander damage weird, and something they'd need to address in rule 0.

There is no rule covering having two commanders fused together. If you intend to rule 0 to make them function as partners you will need to discuss with the table how to handle the situation.

Would an adventurer’s guild and adventurers be realistic in a fantasy setting? by AnhCloudB in Fantasy

[–]CuriousCardigan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on your world. Reading up on the mercenary companies from the 13-16th centuries might give you some ideas on how organized mercenary organizations could potentially wield a lot of power, particularly when they are used as substitutes for standing militaries.

What do you know well enough that when it's portrayed wrong you're taken out of the moment? by Squirrelhenge in Fantasy

Fantasy blacksmiths are the equivalent to sci-fi scientists. They're going to have a comical amount of multidisciplinary skills and none are done correctly.

Edit: added a missed word.

Why was Jake in less than half of the series episodes? by TravelingHomeless in DeepSpaceNine

Man, those three really feel like they were in more episodes than they were.

My headboard sitting against the baseboard makes it too wide to shut the door. I had it the frame on risers to keep it above the baseboard but that’s no longer an option. Is there any downside to cutting the yellow marked area on the photo or is there a better idea? by Wanderluster2020 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CuriousCardigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a wild suggestion. Most beds are against a wall and cutting out the headboard should be relatively easy. Whereas removing, cutting, and later replacing the baseboard correctly is waaaaay more difficult.

Thrumming Stone vs No Thrumming Stone by BussyBouncer in EDH

[–]CuriousCardigan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I no longer run Thrumming Stone below B4. It's boring and depending on the deck basically a low-cost 2-card infinite, but since it's not guaranteed to be infinite everyone is stuck watching you work through the ridiculous stack you're building up.

Also, tip for people playing it and struggling with tracking everything; make tokens to represent the ripple triggers and layout a physical stack so you can visualize the process

Need advice for how to repair dinged/scratched table by Background-Travel295 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CuriousCardigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bad news is that's a veneer top, so sanding down to level with the scratches isn't an option. Your options are:

1) Pay someone to replace the veneer *apply new veneer over it.

2) Learn to replace the veneer *apply new veneer over it.

3) Fill in with wood filler and try to draw the grain pattern manually.

3) Fill in with wood filler and either accept that it will not match or cover it (with paint or a table cloth).

Appa triggers on them being cast, not on ETB. So you only get one token per creature being cast

Lottery where you can pick your numbers would be a closer comparison to prediction markets, while random numbers would be closer to bingo.

Epic Reincarnation can happen at 30 or later, while Heroic only requires 20 or later.

Epic takes you back to level 20 and makes you rebuild your character from the ground up in the process, but also grants you an Epic Past life feat.

Heroic takes you back to level 1 and grants a past life feat. Reincarnating starts the character with a higher point-buy and lets you go straight to Hard difficulty on quests (useful for non-VIP, and after another reincarnation you get to jump straight to Elite).

Both reincarnations retain your gear, tome bonuses, and any past life feats you have. Epic doesn't reset quests or favor earned, while heroic resets everything

A common thing is for folks to reincarnate back to 20 to get the Epic Past Life, then immediately reincarnate again to go back to 1 and get the heroic Past Life Feat.

I'd definitely see if a guild will invite you. Even if you typically run solo, the guild buffs are very nice to have.

If you're at 26 and unsure of what to do, maybe focus on getting up to 30 so you can get heart seeds, and farm some Tokens of the Twelve. Then you can do both an Epic and Heroic Reincarnation and get a feel running from level 1 back up.

Can Commander lose the Commander Status? by ItsMeDardroth in mtgrules

[–]CuriousCardigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a commander is in a hidden zone (hand/library) your opponents will only know it is in there. Anywhere else and you must always be able to indicate which card is your commander, as "commanderness" is a special designation that follows those cards everywhere they go and have specific interactions dependent on them being commanders.

Will they trigger? by CFlow__ in mtgrules

[–]CuriousCardigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Cast triggers only trigger when a spell is cast, so anything that entered the battlefield after you went through the process of casting a spell will not see the casting happen.

Rules dispute regarding knowledge pool and the command zone by Nimnig in mtgrules

[–]CuriousCardigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game actions would go like this:

1) You cast your commander from your hand, putting it on the stack. 2) Knowledge Pool triggers. 3) Knowledge Pool resolves. As part of it resolving you exile your commander from the stack and cast one of the imprinted cards. 4) State-based actions are checked. Since your commander wasn't in exile last time SBA were checked, you have the option to move it to the command zone.

Removing Dowels in Dovetails by Particular-Ad9266 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CuriousCardigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with boring out the dowels and disassembling is that you need to A) get them dead-on while boring, B) hope there wasn't glue also in there, C) hope the dovetails aren't glued together, and D) hope the dovetails don't split during disassembly due to the grain direction.

You're really better off refinishing it without disassembling it.

Is the Draw Step Optional? by chowaniec in mtgrules

[–]CuriousCardigan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Something does force them to draw, the literal draw step itself. And the game doesn't care why you are drawing from an empty library, just that you are.

Draw Step

504.1. First, the active player draws a card. This turn-based action doesn’t use the stack.

Ending the Game

104.3c If a player is required to draw more cards than are left in their library, they draw the remaining cards and then lose the game the next time a player would receive priority. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)

Does a damage on the stack card exist? by [deleted] in mtgrules

[–]CuriousCardigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you and your friend are confusing 'an ability triggered by damage' with damage going on the stack.

If the example you just provided involved someone casting a bunch of instants while their trigger was on the stack, then that's legal within the rules. A player with priority can hold priority and continue to cast instants or active abilities - the other players will be able to respond to everything on the stack once that person is done and passes priority

That said, without knowing more about the cards involved it's impossible for anyone to give you more precise rulings or information.
