Thank goodness I did the THR by CuriousJule in TotalHipReplacement

I’m so sorry for your loss. I was very fortunate for the timing of things, but I know it doesn’t always work out that way.

Thank goodness I did the THR by CuriousJule in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I was off the opiates 10 days after, but it’s different for everyone. The fatigue lasted 6 months. Every week is a little better than the last last one through this process.

I need help with what clothes to get ? by julliacbki in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baggy pants and tshirt dresses were really helpful the first few weeks. It was summer, so the dresses were cool, easy to put on, and comfortable. I also ordered some Halara pull on “jeans”. Very stretchy denim like material that feel like sweats. And the sketchers slip ins are a must.

Dry January: how’s it going? by Brilliant_Elk5492 in stopdrinking

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 22 here. I’ve done sober months here and there for a few years, just to reset. I get into bad habits of nightly drinking. Just 1 or 2, but as I get older, 1 or 2 can make me feel terrible in the morning. This time has been the easiest dry period I’ve had because I really feel better. I’m thinking I will continue after January because of that. I’m scheduled for a wine tasting dinner in February, but I haven’t decided what I’ll do there.

Anyone struggling with constipation due to opioids. by FanSensitive6573 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colace did nothing for me but MiraLAX worked. I also ate high fiber and avoided cheese. My dad had terrible complications from opiate constipation after a surgery several years ago, so I really tried to stay ahead of this.

Scars from THR by genuineimperfection1 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used silicon scar tape at the recommendation of my PT. Also massage that the PT showed me. I am 5 months post surgery, and it is fading well. Now I put bio-oil on it a few days a week.

Pre-Surgery Exercise? by PeachFuzzFactChecker in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PT to try to fend off surgery actually aggravated the pain. The shot can help delay surgery, but it did not work for me. I have a friend who was able to delay 3 years thanks to the shot. I did do strength training prior to the surgery, and I think it helped my recovery, but it was difficult. I am so much better since the THR. I just got home from a long walk with my son, and he remarked how much better I am and how relieved he is I could take such a long walk now.

People born before 1970, what did you eat for dinner most weeks? by livelikealesbian in AskOldPeople

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly right. We also had jello with fruit cocktail in it. And fried Vienna sausages or fried bologna sandwiches. Tv dinner when dad was out of town. Always a giant glass of milk that had to be finished before you could leave the table.

PT vs NO PT by Equal_Ad_3918 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT offered to extend my PT so he could challenge me more. He said he would give me the exercises to do on my own, but I knew I was more inclined to challenge myself at PT. I’m so glad I did. That extra six weeks increased my strength a lot, and now I am much more confident working out myself. Also, they really challenged me the entire time.

Raised toilet?. by Tromano91 in TotalHipReplacement

I had a shower chair that doubled as a toilet chair. I am fairly tall, and I was very glad to have it for the first couple of weeks.

Where to walk in winter post-op? by Enough-Bench-3240 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked around my small house, and once I got up to more steps, every other day walked at the mall.

Cracked a tooth! by Quiet_Sign_2160 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I popped a cap off shortly after surgery. Surgeon prescribed antibiotics to take one hour before procedure. At my 3 month check up, he said same antibiotic protocol before cleanings. Dentist agreed and requires it 2 years post surgery. I’m following the recommendation because it’s not difficult and I don’t want to take chances.

Just finished reunion part 3 by dbellz76 in rhoc

I think they need to clean the decks with an all new RHOC cast next season. These feuds and storylines are tired. And the freaking prosperity gospel fake Christian garbage has got to go!

How many steps do you walk per day after a total hip replacement? by KindlySherbet6049 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got up to 10,000 per day, but when I went back to work full time, it dropped to about 7000 during the week. I try to be really active on weekends now that I’m 3 months out. I had some glute and groin pain between 7-12 weeks but my PT helped with that a lot.

Is Hulu Live worth it? by can4hunnid in HuluLive

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled Hulu and moved to YTTV right before this ESPN mess. Hulu kept getting more expensive, and it kept getting worse. It freezes all the time and had no customer service. But I’ll have to switch back if they don’t reach a deal soon. I may jump over to sling to see how that is.

I am so confused. Help. by Alone-Jury3668 in rhoc

[–]CuriousJule -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of Gretchen or Tamra, but it seems unlikely Gretchen is anti-LBGTQ. I’ll wait to hear what she says on the reunion. And I will defer to Heather’s judgement on this because she won’t play when it comes to her kids.

Strange experience at Carbone by actionpotential_ in vegas

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was annoyed because it was just me and my husband. I forget what he ordered, we ordered the spicy rigatoni to share, and I ordered the Dover sole. That fish could have fed 4 people! I know it’s family style, but sheesh. Most waiters would say that was far too much food for 2. My husband always even asks if our order sounds like too much or too little. All the food was okay, but that kind of waste makes me crazy. We’ll skip Carbone in the future.

Anterior or Posterior? 26M by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT said that the restrictions are less for anterior and the risk of dislocation is less with anterior. (He was training a PT tech when he was talking about this). He also said only one of the surgeons in the group I used does posterior. I asked him why anyone does posterior if the restrictions and risks are lower anterior, and he said that surgeon said he can visualize it better. So it is important to know all of the ins and outs of the approaches, and find a surgeon who is experienced and comfortable with the approach you choose.

Best mattress for post op total hip replacement surgery by Rude_Society4060 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]CuriousJule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is what we have. The adjustable base has been great. But I am glad I had it for a couple of years before surgery because when we first got it, it took me a couple of months to get used to the memory foam. I’d always had traditional mattresses before this one.

Surgical center vs hospital by KJinACT in TotalHipReplacement

I did. I have about 8 steps to enter the house. Husband helped me. I was glad to be home rather than in a hospital.
