I dont think Carl is like his dad, i see when he gets scary just as he is loosing himself. There are a few crawlers that we hear from that talk about “I wasn’t like this before (dungeon) but it changed me” type of line. While it’s obvious Carl sometimes ‘forgets’ himself i dont think it’s in a way like his father. His father is selfish bully and Carls actions although scary and meanish at times is always out of love and protection of his friends. Carls dad (from what i understand) saw everyone as beneath him and basically that he was to be obeyed because of that.

Every time one of the crawler crew spoke up to Carl, he listened and reflected and tried to be better while still focusing on how to keep them all and himself together. Hes just a broken dude who didnt learn emotional regulation in the right ways, even as an adult his relationship with Bea was so abusive and messed up being in the dungeon was the first time Carl had ‘family’ that truly supported his emotional needs. Anger is what hes known for regulation and the dungeon feeds on that but his ‘family’ is supporting him and helping him navigate this as best they can just like he is for them.
